British national carrying P22M worth of suspected marijuana nabbed in NAIA
A British national was arrested at NAIA Terminal 3 in Pasay City on Thursday after 15 kilograms of suspected marijuana kush were found inside his luggage, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) said Friday.
In a statement, the suspect, identified as 'Patrick,' was arrested during an interdiction operation on Thursday night at the Customs International Arrival Area of the airport.
'A routine inspection of his green luggage revealed 35 transparent plastic pouches wrapped with packaging tape, containing dried leaves suspected to be Marijuana Kush, with a total weight of 15,078 grams,' PDEA said.
'Also recovered were non-drug items, including identification documents, a boarding pass, and a cellular phone, all belonging to the suspect,' it added.
According to the PDEA, the suspect was an arriving passenger from Bangkok, Thailand.
He is now facing complaints for importation of dangerous drugs under the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, which has a penalty of life imprisonment to death and a fine of up to P10 million pesos, depending on the final weight and classification of the illegal drugs involved.
The seized drugs will be sent to the PDEA Laboratory Service for examination while the suspect will undergo inquest proceedings. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
