Google Maps leads woman to accidentally drive her Audi into creek; rescued

A woman driving an Audi car was rescued after she accidentally fell into a creek in the Belapur area of Navi Mumbai in the early hours of Friday. The woman, who runs a salon business in Kharghar, is in her mid-30s. She was heading home to Ulwe from Belapur in her Audi. However, Google Maps allegedly navigated her to take a road under the bridge instead of over it, Following the navigation, the woman drove on the road beneath the bridge, reached Dhruvtara Jetty, and allegedly drove into the creek using the road navigation app. The night duty personnel of the Marine Security Department immediately rushed to rescue her and, with the help of a boat, saved her, said an officer. A team from CBD Belapur police station soon reached the spot. The woman is completely fine and did not require hospitalization or any treatment, said police adding that her was also pulled out from the creek with the help of a crane. 'When we spoke to her, she told us that she was following Google Maps, which navigated her to take the service road instead of the bridge, and she met with the accident,' said a police officer from the CBD Belapur police station. 'We have recorded her statement in which she said that it was raining heavily, and instead of the bridge, she took the service road and accidentally drove her vehicle into the creek,' said Narayan Palampalle, Assistant Inspector at the CBD Belapur police station. Since the site of the incident is a jetty and a wall cannot be erected there, the Marine Security has now decided to install navigation boards and barricades 100 metres before the jetty area, Palampalle said.

Navi Mumbai: A 32-year-old doctor practising at the JJ Hospital, Mumbai, allegedly jumped into the sea from the Atal Setu bridge late on Monday night. The search operation will be discontinued after sunset and will be restarted on Wednesday morning. Dr Kavitake, who is feared drowned, might have drifted due to the sea current and is likely to be washed ashore at the creek anywhere between NRI coastal area and Uran. Also, the local villagers near the creek have been told to be vigilant and inform the police if the body is washed ashore. A frantic search is being carried out by the police and Marine Security Department's Dhruvtara patrolling boat as well along the creek across Navi Mumbai." Inspector Rajne said Dr Kavitake has not left any note in his car, and hence the reason behind his extreme step of jumping into the sea from the Atal Setu bridge is not known as of now." Need help?
