Google Maps Error Plunges Car Into Stream In Navi Mumbai, Woman Driver Rescued

A woman in Navi Mumbai accidentally drove her car into a creek near Belapur early Friday morning after following directions provided by Google Maps. The incident occurred around 1 am while she was on her way from Belapur to Ulwe, said officials aware of the development. They found the woman floating in the creek and promptly pulled her out. She was uninjured and escorted home safely. A crane was later used to retrieve the submerged car. This isn't the first case in India where GPS-based navigation has caused mishaps. In December 2024, three men travelling from Kanpur to Pilibhit in Uttar Pradesh followed Google Maps and were led onto a narrow canal path near the Pilibhit Bypass. Their car overturned into the canal, but all escaped without major injuries. While GPS navigation apps like Google Maps offer convenience, repeated incidents have raised concerns over their reliability in unfamiliar or poorly mapped areas.
