Driver charged with DUI in Marion County crash that claimed bicyclist's life, FHP says
A 37-year-old Ocala man on a bicycle was killed by a driver arrested for DUI, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Troopers say the crash happened around 1:56 a.m. Saturday on State Road 25, west of SE 80th Court. The crash location can be seen on the map below. According to the FHP crash report, the vehicle was driven by a 34-year-old woman from Fruitland to reports, the woman was heading west on State Road 25 when her car struck a bicyclist traveling west on the northern County Fire Rescue pronounced the bicyclist dead at the enforcement officials reported that the individual was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence, resulting in Highway Patrol is still looking into this. Person shot at Marion County gas station, deputies say
The Marion County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting that occurred Friday afternoon and left a male victim injured. Per the report from the Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to the Petro on Highway 318 and I-75 due to an ongoing shooting. The location of the shooting can be seen on the map below. When the deputies arrived, they found a Black male with a gunshot wound. Marion County Fire Rescue arrived at the scene of the shooting and took the victim to the hospital. Right now, Marion County Sheriff's Office Major Crimes detectives are responding. 3 injured, extracted from Ocala crash between car and semi-truck: officials

Reports show the crash took place around 7:56 a.m. on Thursday, March 27, in Ocala. The cause of the accident remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol. OCALA, Fla. - Three people were seriously injured during a crash between a car and a semi-truck that took place Friday morning in Marion County, the Florida Highway Patrol said. What we know Marion County Fire Rescue posted to its social media pages to warn residents of the crash. Officials said the crash took place around 7:56 a.m. on Thursday, March 27, in Ocala. First responders said they were dispatched to the intersection of Southwest Oleander Place and Southwest Marine Boulevard. Reports show the crash took place between a Toyota sedan and a semi-tractor, and officials said they received several 911 calls reporting passengers were entrapped within the wreckage. Authorities said they were able to complete an extraction within four minutes, and the three people injured were transported to a local trauma hospital, with one of them designated as a trauma alert. Florida installs new 'Baby Box' at Marion County fire station
The Brief Marion County Fire Rescue's new EMS Central fire station is now the home of a Safe Haven Baby Box, providing parents with an anonymous option for safely surrendering their newborns. The fire department says it plans to install the baby boxes at two of its other local stations. OCALA, Fla. - A Safe Haven Baby Box has been installed at a fire station in Marion County. A Safe Haven Baby Box provides parents with an anonymous option for safely surrendering their newborns at local fire stations. When a baby is placed inside the box, advanced technology immediately alerts first responders, who then provide prompt care and support for the child. Monday marked Marion County Fire Rescue's dedication of its first baby box at EMS Central, located at 1400 SW 6th Ave in Ocala. What they're saying"This Safe Haven Baby Box symbolizes hope, compassion, and safety. Its presence in our community reflects our mission to serve and protect every life in Marion County. We are honored to provide this critical resource to those in need." Marion County Fire Chief James Banta Dig deeper Monica Kelsey, the CEO of Safe Haven Baby Box, created the baby boxes to prevent illegal abandonment of newborns, with the organization's primary goal of raising awareness of the Safe Haven Law "through a variety of educational initiatives, public speaking engagements, and direct care provided to parents in crisis," according to the Safe Haven Baby Box's website.
