Maris Stella student completes SUSI exchange programme
Maris Stella College congratulated its student, G. Sushma Vardhan, for successfully completing the Study of the U.S. Institutes (SUSI) Exchange Programme, funded by the U.S. Department of State. According to information on the U.S. Department of State website, the SUSI is a five-six week academic programme designed for foreign undergraduate students. The programme The programme, focused on Religious Freedom and Pluralism was conducted by the Dialogue Institute and hosted by the Temple University, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, from June 23 to July 28, 2025. Sushma was among a select group of emerging leaders from across the globe who engaged in immersive learning experiences on leadership development, civic engagement, and cross-cultural exchange, according to a release from the college. The programme included intensive dialogue training sessions, lectures on American history and society, leadership workshops, community service, and visits to places of worship representing diverse faith traditions. Upon her return, Maris Stella College principal and faculty felicitated Sushma for her achievement, commending her as a role model for her peers and an ambassador of the college's vision of empowering young women to make a positive global impact.

Students told to enhance skills in line with demands of job market
Students must enhance their skills in line with the demands of the job market, said ICT Academy project manager E. Dinesh. Speaking at the inaugural session of a training programme 'Finishing School Employability Programme' launched for students of Maris Stella College, Vijayawada, Mr. Dinesh said that students cannot succeed with just a degree, as they need to develop additional skills relevant to the current job market demands. To secure good employment opportunities and establish themselves, students need to improve their professional skills and communication abilities, he emphasised. College correspondent Leena Quadros said that the programme was launched in collaboration with the ICT Academy and Infosys Foundation, specifically for degree students. Mr. Dinesh explained that the course was designed to include 100 working hours and it would focus on areas such as communication skills, logical thinking, reasoning, critical thinking, mental ability and interview preparation. The training is structured to help students withstand the competition in the job market and become self-reliant, he said. Vice Principal of the degree section, Usha Kumari, head of Commerce Department, Poojitha, and faculty member Padmaja participated in the event. A total of 65 students from Commerce and BBA streams attended the programme.

Stella students learn the ropes of launching a start-up
Around 50 students from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development in Maris Stella College learned the ropes of launching a start-up at a 'Student Entrepreneurship Bootcamp' conducted by the institution from March 1 to June 30, 2025. Representatives of SK Associates & Group (SK A&G), a tier-I start-up consultancy, mentored the students. The students were equipped with the knowledge of tools needed to launch registered MSMEs, build sustainable business models and access government and institutional funding. At the end of the bootcamp, the participants were given certificates, and their ventures were formally registered under Micro, Small or Medium Enterprise (MSME) norms. The budding entrepreneurs are now preparing to utilise national funding schemes such as Pradhan Mantri MUDRA Yojana (PMMY), Start-up India Seed Fund Scheme (SISFS) and Credit Guarantee Fund Trust for Micro and Small Enterprises (CGTMSE). The initiative was launched under the guidance of college Principal Sr. Jasintha Quadras and founder and CEO of SK A&G P. Shravan Kumar and supervised by the Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Lakshmana Swamy and Professor of Agriculture Economics Jasmipriya K. The college is now preparing to enrol 500 more undergraduate students from various departments into the next cohort of the bootcamp, beginning from September 1, 2025. 'This initiative aligns perfectly with our institution's goal of empowering women through entrepreneurship and innovation,' said college Principal Dr. Quadras. Mr. Shravan Kumar said the idea was to help every student entrepreneur raise meaningful capital, build scalable enterprises and create jobs for others.
