Yankees' public address announcer Paul Olden's consecutive games streak ends at 1,339

NEW YORK – Up in the Yankees' public address booth, Paul Olden's significant consecutive games streak ended this weekend. The club's P.A. announcer since the new Yankee Stadium opened in 2009, Olden is taking time off due to a personal obligation, according to a team statement. Advertisement Olden was to miss the Yankees' entire three-game series against the Chicago Cubs, which began Friday night. Until then, Olden was in the P.A. booth for 1,339 consecutive Yankees home games, both regular and postseason – including two 2020 playoff 'home games'' at San Diego during the COVID year. Subbing for Olden is Mark Fratto, P.A. announcer for the NYC FC soccer team, along with the NBA's Washington Wizards and the NFL's Washington Commanders. Olden assumed the Yankees' P.A. duties following the retirement of the legendary Bob Sheppard, who had served in that capacity since 1951. Friday marked 15 years since Sheppard's passing on July 11, 2010, at age 99. This article originally appeared on Yankees' public address announcer Paul Olden's consecutive games streak ends at 1,339

Yankees public address announcer Paul Olden to miss weekend series, ending a run of 1,339 games

NEW YORK (AP) — New York Yankees public address announcer Paul Olden will miss his first three games since assuming the role 2009 due to a personal obligation, ending a streak of more than 1,300 games. Olden will miss this weekend's three-game series against the Chicago Cubs, ending a run of 1,339 regular-season and postseason games. Advertisement Olden will be replaced by New York City FC's public address announcer Mark Fratto. Fratto has announced NYCFC's games since the team's inaugural MLS season in 2015 and also serves in the same capacity for the Washington Wizards and Washington Commanders. The 71-year-old Olden was one of the Yankees television announcers in the mid-1990s and took over the public address duties when the Yankees moved to the new Yankee Stadium and replaced Jim Hall, the successor to Bob Sheppard, who held the job since 1951. __ AP MLB: The Associated Press

Yankees make rare change to PA booth for first time since new stadium opened

Yankees make rare change to PA booth for first time since new stadium opened originally appeared on Athlon Sports. For the first time since the current Yankee Stadium opened in 2009, Paul Olden won't be behind the microphone this weekend. Advertisement The Yankees announced that Olden will miss the team's three-game series against the Cubs (July 11–13) due to a scheduled personal obligation. His absence marks the end—at least temporarily—of a remarkable streak: Olden has served as the public address announcer for every Yankees home game (regular and postseason) since the Stadium opened, a run of 1,339 games through Wednesday night's series finale against Seattle. The only exception before now came in 2020, when the Yankees played two 'home' games in San Diego during the ALDS against Tampa Bay. Petco Park's in-house staff handled those games. This weekend, the voice of the Bronx will belong to Mark Fratto, a veteran announcer with deep New York ties. Fratto is currently the PA voice of New York City FC and also works with the Washington Wizards and Commanders. He's been a familiar voice at Madison Square Garden for boxing and college basketball since 2008 and is part of Golden Boy Boxing broadcasts. Olden, who famously opened his first Yankees game with, 'Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen... and welcome to the new Yankee Stadium,' will return after the Cubs series. His run behind the mic is one of the most consistent presences in a ballpark known for history—and history-makers. For one weekend, though, the streak gets a breather. This story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jul 11, 2025, where it first appeared.

Yankees icon to miss first game in 16 YEARS for personal reasons... ending barely-believable 1,339-game streak

In terms of sport's longest-running streaks, there aren't many that can match that of the New York Yankees ' PA announcer Paul Olden. Olden has been in the role since the stadium opened in 2009 and has done the PA for every Yankee Stadium home game since. Including both regular season and postseason games, Olden's 16-year streak has seen him do the PA for an impressive 1,339 games. However, the Yankees have now confirmed that Olden's streak will finally come to an end on Friday night, when he will take time off to attend a personal obligation. In a statement, the MLB giants revealed that Olden will be out of action from July 11th-13th and have already confirmed his replacement for the Chicago Cubs series. In his place will be Mark Fratto, who has been New York City FC's PA announcer since their inception. Fratto is also the PA announcer for the Washington Commanders in the NFL and the Washington Wizards in the NBA. He's also a regular PA announcer at Madison Square Garden for boxing and college basketball events. Meanwhile, Olden's final game - before his short break - saw the Yankees stage a dramatic late comeback to beat the Seattle Mariners 9-6. Jasson Domínguez had three hits, including an RBI single, and Aaron Judge added a two-run double to help the Yankees overcome four Seattle homers. The Yankees have won four straight following their second six-game losing streak since mid-June. Olden replaced Jim Hall, the successor to Bob Sheppard, who had been the Yankees announcer since 1951.
