Chatfield remains out for Hurricanes in Eastern final against Panthers; Jankowski draws in
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Carolina Hurricanes injured defenseman Jalen Chatfield sat out Thursday night in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference final against the Florida Panthers. This marks Chatfield's third straight missed game going back to the Game 5 finale in the second-round series against the Washington Capitals. Coach Rod Brind'Amour had said Chatfield is considered day to day and wants to play. He has been skating with the team, including before Thursday night's game but remained a scratch. The reigning Stanley Cup champion Panthers took Tuesday's series opener. The Hurricanes tweaked the lineup in response, moving forward Mark Jankowski into the lineup instead of Jesperi Kotkaniemi. ___ AP NHL playoffs: and

Is Mark Jankowski An Option For Game 2?
The Carolina Hurricanes fell 5-2 to the Florida Panthers in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Final Tuesday night at Lenovo Center. It was a disappointing result for the team, but is it one that could prompt some changes for Game 2? When asked about potential line tweaks to try and find more finish, Hurricanes coach Rod Brind'Amour pushed back on the thought. "There's a fine line and I don't know what changing lines would do," Brind'Amour said on Wednesday. "You have to figure out how the game's going and then make your adjustments from there. Like I said, I didn't mind the game. I liked large parts of it. We're playing the best team and so we know it's going to be hard to get our chances." However, what was notable was that the team had an optional skate on Thursday morning and Mark Jankowski was not taking part in it while Jesperi Kotkaniemi was. Jankowski played just three games for Carolina this postseason before getting injured in Game 1 of the second-round series against the Washington Capitals. The 6-foot-4 centerman is a strong depth option for the team, with his crazy scoring touch, good faceoff numbers and ability to play on the penalty kill. Kotkaniemi on the other hand has just three points this series, a sub 50% faceoff win rate and hasn't scored a goal since February 1. He's been fine, playing a good defensive game and bringing a bit of physicality, but he certainly hasn't been a difference maker at all. Brind'Amour said Mark Jankowski is 100% healthy now and he could be an option for the team tonight. "He's been a consideration for probably the last three or four games, I think," Brind'Amour said. "So he's ready to go if I decide to use him." Be sure to check out the Carolina Hurricanes 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs Hub for all postseason stories! Carolina Hurricanes Forward Doubtful For Game 3
The Carolina Hurricanes will face off against the Washington Capitals on May 10 in Game 3 of the second round. The Hurricanes' goal will be to bounce back after losing to the Capitals by a 3-1 final score in Game 2. Unfortunately, the Hurricanes are expected to be without one of their key bottom-six forwards again. While speaking to reporters, including Walt Ruff, Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind'Amour announced that forward Mark Jankowski is "doubtful" for the matchup Jankowski, 30, was injured during the Hurricanes' Game 1 matchup against the Capitals and was sidelined in Game 2 because of it. Now, with this update from Brind'Amour, it's likely that Jankowski will also not be good to go for Game 3, which is less-than-ideal news for Carolina. Since being acquired from the Nashville Predators at the trade deadline, Jankowski has become a solid part of the Hurricanes' roster. In 19 regular-season games with the Canes following the move, he posted eight goals and a plus-4 rating. In three playoff games thus far, he has one assist and a plus-1 rating. Recent Hurricanes News Former Hurricanes Forward Fined By NHL Player Safety NHL Player Safety has announced that former Carolina Hurricanes forward Nicolas Roy has been fined $7,812.50 for cross-checking Trent Frederic during the Vegas Golden Knights' Game 2 matchup against the Edmonton Oilers. Former Hurricanes Winger Can't Stop Scoring Goals Former Carolina Hurricanes forward Mikko Rantanen was the main reason why the Dallas Stars defeated the Colorado Avalanche in the first round. With the Stars down 2-0 in Game 7, Rantanen scored a hat trick and recorded an assist in the third period to secure them a 4-2 win over the Avalanche. Former Hurricanes Forward Is Absolutely Thriving In Playoffs Back in October, former Carolina Hurricanes forward Max Pacioretty signed a one-year contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs. This was after the veteran winger joined the club at training camp on a professional tryout (PTO).
