Steelers Insider Doesn't Expect Gabe Davis Signing
Steelers Insider Doesn't Expect Gabe Davis Signing originally appeared on Athlon Sports. It took three months, but the Pittsburgh Steelers made their biggest signing of the offseason. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers will play (presumably) his final season in Western Pennsylvania, hoping to find the Steelers their first playoff win since 2016. Advertisement Rodgers makes the Steelers better, but he won't make up for all of their flaws, especially on the boundary. He's not creating big plays with his legs or making the throws that defined his prime. As such, he'll be relying on his supporting cast as much as they'll be leaning on him, and they'll be doing so with one above-average receiver. After trading for Seattle Seahawks star receiver DK Metcalf and then dealing George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys, Pittsburgh is back to where it began the offseason on the perimeter. On Thursday, veteran receiver Gabe Davis visited the facility in hopes of finding a spot in the passing offense. He left without a deal. While that doesn't necessarily mean he is removed from the team's plans, Steelers insider Mark Kaboly set the expectation for a potential Gabe Davis signing. In short, he won't count on Davis being the late addition to the receiving corps. Advertisement "I don't think it will be Gabe Davis," Kaboly said on 'Kaboly + Mack.' "I just got the feeling when I was there, and people were talking the other day. He just came in for a visit. A complementary visit like a mint on your pillow." Pittsburgh could still add a receiver. Veterans like Amari Cooper and Keenan Allen remained unsigned; several depth targets are available, too. Davis' big-play ability could be enticing for an offense that lacks potency outside of Metcalf. Robert Woods, Roman Wilson, Scotty Miller, and Ben Skowronek are competing for boundary roles, and Davis, at his best, would add a downfield threat to that rotation. However, he was released just one season into a three-year deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars, tagged with a failed physical designation. His torn meniscus is complicating his free agency. Advertisement "Maybe they were just trying to give him the once-over because of that knee," Kaboly said. "I don't know how aggressive they were in trying to sign him. I think they move on from Gabe Davis. I don't think we will hear from him again." Given the need at receiver, it's no surprise Pittsburgh gave Davis a look. But if he's not fully healthy, there's little reason for the Steelers to be interested, especially as Rodgers' preferences play into their late-offseason strategy. Major update on Steelers star T.J. Watt's NFL future after huge exit hint
There has been a major update on the future of T.J. Watt, as arguably the Steelers' best player enters the final year of his contract, and he reportedly 'has an offer on the table.' Watt is an indispensable part of the Pittsburgh defense, and his four-year, $112million deal is up at the end of this season. Even while the Steelers figure out who to start at quarterback between Mason Rudolph, Will Howard, or possibly free-agent Aaron Rodgers, making sure they retain Watt may be an even bigger priority. Watt, 30, having a deal on the table from the Steelers was reported by Mark Kaboly, who has covered the team for a long time. Watt is currently absent from Pittsburgh's voluntary offseason workouts as he awaits a new contract. One of the NFL's elite defensive players likely wants to be paid as one, like the $40million annual deals, or higher, received by Maxx Crosby, Myles Garrett, and more. Watt stunned fans last month by hinting that he could be exiting the team on social media. Watt posted a photo, without a caption, to his Instagram story of him giving the peace sign, holding two fingers in the air. The sign is slang for goodbye, leaving doubt as to his Steel City future. The Steelers let last year's quarterback duo of Russell Wilson and Justin Fields go in free agency. The team also has not signed a true starting quarterback in free agency, leaving many doubts. Watt will demand huge money no matter where he goes, with Pittsburgh keen to keep the key cog of its roster. In letting Wilson and Fields go, the team should have the resources to get this deal done. Now it is only a matter of what Watt wants.

Mark Kaboly: Aaron Rodgers unlikely to sign with Steelers before OTAs
Mark Kaboly: Aaron Rodgers unlikely to sign with Steelers before OTAs Despite his playful hints at joining the Steelers, Aaron Rodgers is not expected to attend Steelers OTAs, per Mark Kaboly. Kaboly, a long-time sportswriter and current Steelers correspondent for The Pat McAfee Show, was asked if Rodgers potentially missing OTAs was a sign he wouldn't sign with Pittsburgh — and this is what he had to say: "Absolutely not. It would be a surprise to me that [Rodgers] would show up to OTAs. I do think we will see him at minicamp on June 10." Rodgers' biographer, Ian O'Connor, also believed June 10 was the date to look out for — with insider Adam Schefter also arguing that the four-time MVP would sign with Pittsburgh 'in the next week or so.' The Steelers' three QBs — Mason Rudolph, Will Howard, and Skylar Thompson — may be underwhelming on paper, but they have a lot to prove at OTAs in Rodgers' potential absence. Tune in to Steelers Wire to stay up to date on the latest leaks, rumors, and speculation surrounding Rodgers' probable signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Amid Ugly Receiver History Steelers Mike Tomlin Pulled Plug On George Pickens
One man's trash is another man's treasure. Right, Pittsburgh Steelers fans? While the Dallas Cowboys gloat over adding an elite No. 2 receiver in George Pickens, a new report from longtime Steelers writer and Pat McAfee Show contributor Mark Kaboly claims that none other than Mike Tomlin wanted the talented-but-temperamental player out of town. Advertisement "Make no mistake about it, Tomlin — who has gone out of his way in the past to defend Pickens — is the one who decided that the Pickens rehabilitation project needed to end a year early," Kaboly writes. "The ultimate decision had very little to do with general manager Omar Khan (although he signed off on it, too), and of course it was OK'd by team owner Art Rooney II." If iron-fisted Tomlin couldn't control Pickens' emotional outbursts, does Cowboys' rookie boss Brian Schottenheimer stand a chance? After an ugly two-game stretch in 2023 in which he caught only three passes for 21 yards, Pickens posted "Free me!" on his social media and scrubbed any mentions of the Steelers. He later explained the move had "nothing to do with football." Later that year he was roundly criticized for a lack of effort, specifically not blocking for running back Jaylen Warren near the goal line. Pickens claimed he was trying to avoid injury. He's had multiple shouting altercations with fans at games. He's been fined several times for unsportsmanlike conduct, including last year's game against the Cowboys when he violently grabbed the facemask of cornerback Jourdan Lewis. And in Week 17 he arrived late for a key game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Advertisement Said Tomlin about Pickens late last year, "He's just got to grow up, man. This is an emotional game. He's got a target on his back because he's George; he understands that. But he's got to grow up. He's got to grow up in a hurry." Tomlin is a future Hall of Famer and is perceived to have total control of the Steelers' locker room. But with the addition of Pickens, the list of receivers he ultimately couldn't handle is rather impressive: Martavis Bryant, 2018. Antonio Brown, 2019. Chase Claypool, 2022. Diontae Johnson, 2024. George Pickens, 2025. Did the Cowboys steal a treasure? Or did Tomlin and the Steelers merely part with more trash? Related: Steelers T.J. Report: Aaron Rodgers expected to give Steelers an answer by OTAs
Report: Aaron Rodgers expected to give Steelers an answer by OTAs Steelers Mailbag: Loving Will Howard, when will Aaron Rodgers sign, and who is the RB1? Mark Kaboly / Steelers Correspondent For The @PatMcAfeeShow PITTSBURGH — The NFL Draft is over, and the Steelers had as an unsexy of a pull maybe more than anybody else in the league. But… — Mark Kaboly (@MarkKaboly) April 30, 2025 The Aaron Rodgers waiting game may finally be nearing its end — at least according to writer and Steelers correspondent to The Pat McAfee Show, Mark Kaboly. In Kaboly's recent Steelers Mailbag on social media, he was asked when Rodgers would come "home." Here was his answer: "I assume you mean Pittsburgh when you say 'home.' I am glad you are finally listening to what I've said for two months now (I forgive you). I say May 22, but definitely before OTAs start on May 27." This matches GM Omar Khan's comments on having four QBs on the roster ahead of offseason activities and training camp — and if accurate, would give Rodgers more than enough time to get acclimated with his new offensive weapons and teammates. At the 2025 NFL Draft, Steelers President Art Rooney II expressed confidence that Rodgers would play for Pittsburgh in 2025, and it appears fans will know for certain ahead of the Steelers' OTAs at the end of May.
