Former The Chase contestant reveals why winners are told not to share the prize fund

The Chase has been on air via ITV since 2009 - and while winning the show is a rare event, one former contestant has revealed secret advice he was given about the prize money A former contestant from The Chase has revealed details of what happens if a team win the show - and the advice ITV gives regarding eliminated teammates and the prize fund. ‌ Viewers of the ITV show will be well aware that success is rare on the general knowledge quiz show. A group of four team together to test their knowledge against one of the genius Chasers - which includes Mark Labbett, Shaun Wallace, Anne Hegerty, Jenny Ryan, Darragh Ennis and Paul Sinha. ‌ The brain boxes play under the respective code names The Beast, The Dark Destroyer, The Governess, The Vixen, The Menace and The Sinnerman. After the individual rounds, where the contestants try to get home without being caught, the team then take on the chaser in another round of general knowledge. ‌ If the team answer more questions correctly than the Chaser, they win the prize fund that has been amassed over the course of the show - but the money is divided between those that succeeded. If a teammate is eliminated before the final, the winning team members are seemingly advised not to share any of the money with team members who were caught during the chase rounds. A former contestant named Steven Sneade, 69, from Liverpool, revealed all to the Daily Mail. ‌ He said: "If you win you have to sign another contract as you're accepting money from them. They told us not to give money to the contestants who didn't win money just because you feel sorry for them. "They can't stop you, but I think they just don't want you to have that in mind. They said it could take three months, but I had it in a week." The Chase has been on the air since 2009 and has aired over 2,500 episodes so far. The long-running game show is hosted by Bradley Walsh, 65 - who also hosts a variety of other shows, including the BBC series Gladiators. ‌ While he has been helming the show for 16 years, the entertainer has revealed he has no plans to walk away from the show. In a recent interview, he explained he would quit if the series lost its audience. He said: "Until people say they've had enough and start switching off, I'll do it. We've had such an extraordinary time together. It's the best job in the world." ‌ He also reflected on filming the pilot episode, which was recorded back in 2008 with chasers Shaun Wallace and Mark Labbett involved. He recalled: "The audience was made up of ITV bosses and they found someone in the office to be a contestant." "Straight away I took the contestant's side. I saw the Chasers as these big, all-knowing, bully types, so I started taking the mickey out of them. When they got a question wrong, I really gave it to them, and everyone was laughing. That's when I knew we had something." The Chase has spawned a number of spin-offs - with celebrity specials and a version of the show were contestants can take on the whole line-up of chasers. International versions of the show have appeared in 20 other countries including Australia, the USA, Spain and Germany. Some members of the UK version of The Chase have appeared in international versions - with Mark and Shawn featuring in the line-up in Australia.

I was on The Chase - here's the truth about Bradley Walsh 'stitching up' ITV contestants by slowing down the questions

A contestant on The Chase has revealed the truth behind Bradley Walsh 'stitching up' contestants by slowing down the questions on the ITV show. The programme, hosted by Bradley, 65, has been on our screens since 2009. It follows a group of contestants take on one of the Chasers in a bid to win a cash prize. ITV's synopsis reads: 'A quiz with a difference. Four contestants must pit their wits against the Chaser, a ruthless quiz genius determined to stop them winning the cash prize.' The players show their knowledge as they go up against Mark Labbett, Shaun Wallace, Anne Hegerty, Paul Sinha, Jenny Ryan and Darragh Ennis. Over the years there have been 2,550 episodes across 18 series and fans have shared their frustration over the way Bradley reads out the questions to the Chaser. The programme, hosted by Bradley, 65, has been on our screens since 2009 and follows a group of contestants take on one of the Chasers in a bid to win a cash prize One asked on Reddit: 'Why is Bradley allowed to read the questions so much more quickly for the chaser? It seems so unfair. It gives the chaser a big advantage.' And a former player on the quiz show replied to the comment reassuring them that 'everything is fair'. They said: 'There's a whole host of questions that, if you're an experienced quizzer, you can guess before the question is completed. 'That is the main advantage that Chasers have. 'I've been on the show. They are very diligent on fairness. 'They even have an independent adjudicator on set to watch that everything is fair.' They added: 'We had to reshoot part of our final chase after the adjudicator said an answer that Brad said was wrong, should have been accepted. 'We didn't challenge it, the adjudicator did. 'It was very clear to us that they wanted to be clear in how they did everything.' And another took to the forum to give their views on what happens on the show. They added: 'This doesn't happen. One of the biggest myths about the show. 'There are independent adjudicators to ensure the game is played as fairly as possible, otherwise they'd get in incredibly hot water with the regulator.' It comes shortly after fans raged after Bradley accepted an 'incorrect' answer from Jenny Ryan during the most recent instalment of the ITV show. Monday's episode saw Nick, 65, Laura, 41, Aiden, 22, and Vivienne, 59, take on Jenny, 43, AKA The Vixen in a bid to win some cash. Despite their best efforts, only Laura and Nick made it through to the final round with £3k. But one answer that Jenny put forward to host Bradley certainly ruffled a few feathers to those watching at home. Bradley asked: 'What colour indicates semi-skimmed milk on bottles?' After pondering about her answer, Jenny said: 'Red and silver.' Bradley replied: 'I'll accept.' Many watching rushed to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share their anger - pointing out that it wasn't 'correct'.

The Chase fans rage 'what is going on here?!' as Bradley Walsh accepts 'incorrect' answer from Jenny Ryan - blasting ITV for 'costing contestant the win' in brutal final round

The Chase fans raged as Bradley Walsh accepted an 'incorrect' answer from Jenny Ryan during the most recent instalment of the ITV show. 'Semi skimmed milk tops are green #thechase.' 'Semi skimmed is green!' 'I thought semi skimmed was green?!# However others pointed out there's a difference in colour coding between glass and plastic containers. 'On bottles it's red and silver stripes,' one wrote. 'Semi skimmed milk in glass bottles are red/silver striped. Poly containers it's green. #thechase.' Last week, fans of The Chase were left fuming by a question they've 'heard a million times before' from Bradley Walsh. Thursday's instalment of the popular quiz show saw contestants Wayne, Emma, Spencer and Gillian take on the Chaser Mark Labbett, known as The Beast, in an attempt to win a cash prize. By the end, only pharmacist Emma and Wayne, who works as a local government officer, had made it to the final round and built up a £12,000 pot. As they worked their way through their last set of questions, Bradley asked: 'The Grin Reaper is a work by which Bristol street artist?' The correct answer was Banksy, however the mention of the artist set some fans into a rage because they felt he was frequently referenced on the show. One penned: 'Daily Banksy question #TheChase.' Another chimed in: 'Banksy, Banksy, stupid f*****g Banksy. #thechase.' While someone else, according to the Express penned: 'Banksy klaxon! We've heard these Banksy questions a million times!' Viewers have previously pointed out that the street artist has featured in questions before and commented: 'Banksy eh? Never heard him mentioned before. #thechase.'; 'Has there ever been a final chase where Banksy hasn't been one of the answers? #thechase.'; 'Banksy!!! Of course!! Hasn't been mentioned yet this week..... #thechase.'; 'It seems like ages since we've had a Banksy question - but in fact it was probably only 4 days ago… #TheChase.' 'Oh a Banksy question that's a first #TheChase,' someone else said, followed by an eye-roll emoji. In the end, Mark beat the contestants with 28 seconds remaining and they walked away empty handed. It comes after The Chase fans were left 'screaming at the screen' as a contestant fumbled a 'ridiculously easy' question on a recent episode of the ITV game show. The correct answer was Banksy , however the mention of the artist set some fans into a rage because they felt he was frequently referenced on the show Viewers have previously pointed out that the street artist has featured in questions before The repeat instalment, shown earlier this week, saw Justin from Manchester, Reanna from Liverpool, Nicola from Nottingham and Matthew from Leeds take on the game. They were up against Shaun Wallace AKA The Dark Destroyer as they competed against the expert quizzer in a bid to take home the cash prize. Justin was first up to the podium, supported by host Bradley - but he was soon caught out and eliminated before reaching the final round. Reanna came next, building up a solid £4,000 during the cash builder quick-fire round - so things were looking good for the contestant. But the final question she faced - since dubbed 'ridiculously easy' by fans - during the main Chase itself saw her taken out too. Bradley asked her: 'In legend, how did the basilisk kill its prey?' He was referring to a serpent-like monster from Greek and Roman mythology which can kill with a stare. But it was made more famous after it was included in the second Harry Potter book, as the terrifying magical beast living in the titular Chamber of Secrets. The contestants were up against Shaun Wallace AKA The Dark Destroyer (pictured) as they competed against the expert quizzer in a bid to take home the cash prize The options Reanna was given were 'stinging', 'shouting' and 'staring'. Sadly, though, she missed the correct answer of 'staring' and found herself eliminated from the game. Viewers took to social media to express their frustration at her missing what could have been an easy win in their eyes. One said, the Express reports: 'She's clearly never watched Harry Potter.' The Chase is available to watch on ITV1 on weeknights at 5pm and to stream on ITVX.
