‘Horror' moment car ploughed through crowds during Liverpool FC parade

Sky News host Sharri Markson discusses the 'horrific moment' when a car ploughed into the crowds in Liverpool during Premier League celebrations. 'This is the sort of tragic event we now all need to be on the lookout for, it is the new reality of the world we are living in,' Ms Markson said. 'Thousands of football fans were celebrating Liverpool's Premier League title victory in their hometown when a car ploughed into the crowd, this joyous celebration, turned into horror.'

Sharri Markson exposes Sussan Ley for failing to declare trip funded by Palestinian Authority

An investigation has found the new Liberal Leader Sussan Ley had failed to declare personal expenses paid by the Palestinian Authority, Sky News host Sharri Markson reports. The Liberal leader's office launched an internal investigation after Ms Markson discovered in January that Sussan Ley had failed to declare accommodation, meals and transport paid by the Palestinian Authority on a trip to the West Bank in 2011. 'At the time, she was a strong critic of Israel, she demanded Palestinian statehood, accused Israel of occupation and even sponsored a Palestinian child,' Ms Markson said. 'But it's her failure to declare expenses that's in breach of parliamentary guidelines.'

Opposition Leader Sussan Ley failed to declare personal expenses paid by Palestinian Authority after trip to West Bank in 2011

An investigation has found the new Liberal Leader Sussan Ley had failed to declare personal expenses paid by the antisemitic Palestinian Authority, Sky News can reveal. Her office launched an internal probe after Sky News host Sharri Markson discovered in January the now Opposition Leader had failed to declare accommodation, meals and transport paid by the Palestinian Authority on a trip to the West Bank in 2011. Other politicians who went on the trip declared gifted meals, transport and accommodation. At the time, Ms Ley was a strong critic of Israel and had demanded Palestinian statehood, accused Israel of occupation and sponsored a Palestinian child. Her failure to declare expenses is a breach of parliamentary guidelines. After Markson's January report, Ms Ley's office said it had launched an investigation. One day after becoming leader, a spokesman for the new Liberal leader said on Wednesday: "An administrative oversight occurred whereby Ms Ley's disclosures were not updated to reflect the fact that some accommodation, some meals and ground transport were provided by the Palestinian National Authority. "In January 2025, Ms Ley formally made that declaration to the Deputy Clerk of the Parliament and the Deputy Clerk confirmed the matter was resolved." Markson on Wednesday described the situation as "highly embarrassing", given that Ms Ley declared the expenses almost 14 years after the trip and Sky News' revelations. The Sky News host said there had been a "problem with her view on Israel" which was out of step with the Liberal Party and "belonged in the Albanese Left faction". 'Sussan Ley was a pro-Palestinian advocate for some 15 years, at least, before she visited Israel for less than a week in late 2022 and changed her perspective. That visit was after she became deputy Liberal leader in the wake of the May 2020 election," Markson said in her January report on Ms Ley's internal investigation. The Liberal leader has previously expressed her support for Palestinians. "As someone with a longstanding affinity for the Palestinians, including co-chairing this parliament's friendship group over many years, I wish to highlight the Palestinian perspective,' she said in a 2017 Parliament House address when she was a Liberal MP. "Less than five per cent would remember a time without Israeli occupation.' During a 2011 speech she said: "I support the Palestinian bid for statehood in part because it will give heart to the ordinary people of the West Bank and Gaza." Ms Ley has since backflipped on her Palestinian stance after a 2022 trip as deputy Liberal leader. 'The hideous events of October 7 in Gaza have changed my thinking on the entire subject. Having said that, I remain a steadfast friend of the Palestinian people and I wish that we had right now, a partner in this peace process,' she said on Tuesday. "I took a trip at the invitation of Julian Leeser, an outstanding colleague and dear friend to Israel, and I spent a lot of time seeing what was happening on the ground and the impact of that trip and the change geopolitical circumstances of the Abraham Accords with Israel reaching out for peace to Saudi, to Morocco and then of course the hideous events of October 7 in Gaza have changed my thinking on the entire subject." Markson hit out at Ms Ley's error. "You heard there that she said the Abraham Accords were one of the reasons she changed her views, but she claimed they were with the Saudis," she said. "Well of course the Abraham Accords were not with the Saudis, they were with the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain, and Israel is still trying to do a normalisation deal with Saudi Arabia - (President Donald) Trump spoke about it just today. It's one of the reasons Hamas attacked Israel on October 7. "The point is Sussan Ley changed her long-held criticism of Israel just a year or so before October 7. She did so in order to be in line with the policy position of the Liberal Party." Markson described it as "terrific" that Ms Ley had changed her mind following the visit to Israel, but is unconvinced she was the best person to lead the party. "She's also changed her views on other issues, too, like banning live sheep exports. She once strongly argued in favour of the ban, for animal cruelty reasons," she said. "Now she supports the trade. This flip-flopping has led to accusations she isn't a woman of conviction, that she doesn't know what she stands for." Ms Ley beat out shadow treasurer Angus Taylor for the position of Liberal leader on Monday. She won the partyroom ballot 29 out of the 44 votes, meaning 25 members do not have confidence in her to lead the party to victory at the next election after its landslide loss. "Under her leadership, the party will remain divided. There will be no unity. She has a tough job ahead of her, and we wish her luck," Markson said. "But if the party wants to govern again. If it wants to provide a serious alternative to the Albanese government - which the nation needs for democracy - then Liberal MPs and Senators need to put their own egos aside and do everything they can to beg (former treasurer) Josh Frydenberg to run again at the next election."
