Marlon Williams-Clark announced new local NAACP president, following Adner Marcelin

In the wake of the death of their previous president, Adner Marcelin, the Tallahassee Branch of the NAACP has announced it's newest leader who looks to build on his predecessor's legacy. In a press release, the local chapter announced their new leader is Marlon Williams-Clark, an educator and Tallahassee native who just so happens to be a Rickards Raider, Florida State Seminole and Florida A&M Rattler. He holds degrees from FAMU and Concordia University - Portland and holds a doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy from FSU. In January, Marcelin began his second stint as president in January and was a known local advocate for justice and equality and by his side was Williams-Clark as his first vice president. "Beyond Adner's advocacy for equality and justice, he was a friend, a mentor, a helper," Williams-Clark said in a previous interview with the Tallahassee Democrat. "He was a servant leader. Truly, his presence will be missed. His knowledge will be missed. His sense of humor will be missed." Now as he steps up in the order of succession he looks to build upon the work of the past president. He also has some goals of his own, as an educator he hopes to elevate youth involvement within the local chapter of the organization. Williams-Clark boasts a long resume being one of the first educators in the country to pilot the College Board's AP African-American Studies course and his work in Black education was highlighted by several national news outlets such as The New York Times, Good Morning American, NPR, among others. Before his promotion, Williams-Clark served on the branch's Youth Council and currently, he works as a social studies studies instructor at Florida State University schools and was even the project director for the Florida A&M Developmental Research School's Freedom School Program. "It's time for us to show up and do the work," said Williams-Clark as part of the release. "No one is going to save us but ourselves. The issues that impact Black communities in Tallahassee – education, housing, health care, voting access, and economic opportunity – will only be addressed when we organize and act together." Williams-Clark is backed by the Tallahassee NAACP executive team comprised of Gail McKinney-Rogers as First Vice President, Stanley Sims as Second Vice President, and a former branch president Delaitre Hollinger as Third Vice President.
