LSU basketball adds conference player of the year to transfer class
LSU basketball adds conference player of the year to transfer class LSU basketball added another prized player to its transfer portal class on Sunday. Per On3, Omaha forward Marquel Sutton committed to LSU. Sutton was the Summit League Player of the Year. He played a key role in Omaha's run to the NCAA Tournament -- the first tournament appearance in program history. Sutton led Omaha with 18.9 points and 7.9 rebounds. LSU is getting the front-court experience it needs with Sutton's arrival. He was a three-year starter for the Mavericks with 99 career starts under his belt. Sutton averaged double-digit points in all three seasons with Omaha. He shot over 50% from the field in 2023-24 and 2024-25. Sutton projects to be an immediate starter at forward for LSU. He's the second forward to join LSU's transfer class after the Tigers signed Michael Nwoko from Mississippi State. The On3 Industry Ranking slots Sutton as the No. 74 ranked overall player and No. 22 ranked forward in the 2025 transfer portal. Sutton is the fifth transfer to commit to LSU. According to 247Sports, LSU's transfer class ranks No. 3 in the country. Four of LSU's five transfers rate as four-star prospects, per 247. Louisville and Michigan's portal classes rank No. 1 and No. 2 in the country, respectively.

One of the nation's most respected mid-major basketball transfers is contemplating a move to Kansas State. Marquel Sutton, a 6-foot-8 senior forward who spent the past three seasons at Omaha, has locked in a recruiting visit with Jerome Tang and the Wildcats. Advertisement Sutton told League Ready that he plans to be in Manhattan on Monday. The Wildcats are eyeing Sutton as a potential replacement for departing seniors Coleman Hawkins and David N'Guessan in the frontcourt. It's easy to see why they are interested in Sutton's services. Sutton averaged 18.9 points and 7.9 rebounds per game this season on his way to Summit League Player of the Year honors. Sutton led the Mavericks to 22 victories and a trip to the NCAA Tournament. He is looking to finish his college basketball career in a power conference. Many consider him to be one of the biggest names currently in the transfer portal. Advertisement Sutton is originally from Tulsa. He has also received transfer attention from Arkansas, Baylor, Clemson, Kansas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Michigan and many others. Time will tell where he ends up, but Sutton will make his first recruiting visit with K-State.

Omaha men headed to first NCAA Tournament
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — The Omaha men are headed to the NCAA Tournament. The Mavericks claimed an 85-75 win over St. Thomas in the championship game. Standout Marquel Sutton was named the tournament's MVP. The win marks Omaha's first ever Summit League Championship and it clinches their first berth in the NCAA Tournament. 'Obviously, when you do something for the first time like what we did, even win the regular season, it's a proud moment for all alumni and former players who have wore the jersey, and went through the blood, sweat and tears of being a student-athlete,' Omaha head coach Chris Crutchfield said.
