Marques Colston's game-winning touchdown catch is the Saints Play of Day 36
There are just 36 days until the New Orleans Saints kick off the 2025 regular season. Marques Coltson's 36-yard, fourth-quarter touchdown against the rival Tampa Bay Buccaneers is our Saints Play of the Day. You can watch the touchdown-scoring play for yourself here.
Heading into the final week of the 2014 season, New Orleans was playing just for pride. They had a 6-9 record and were facing a 1-14 Buccaneers squad. Things got off to a pretty bad start for the Saints, as they were down 20-7 heading into the final frame.
Mark Ingram was able to score a touchdown to make it a one-possession game just a minute into the fourth quarter. Later in the quarter, Keenan Lewis intercepted a Josh McCown pass to set New Orleans up at midfield with about five minutes left.
On third down, Drew Brees connected with Colston over the middle of the field. The receiver ran the ball about 20 more yards into the endzone, 36 in total, setting up the eventual game-winning PAT. The Saints would go on to win 23-20 after a safety.
Coincidentally, this score and eventual New Orleans victory helped the Buccaneers land the first overall selection in the 2015 NFL draft. They would go on to pick Jameis Winston, who became a fan favorite for the Saints from 2020 to 2023.
