City of Marshall introduces new traffic patterns to improve school safety
MARSHALL, Texas (KETK) — The Marshall Police Department released a statement on Monday informing residents about recent traffic pattern changes that promote safety near school zones. The council is looking to prevent traffic conflicts in these areas and to enhance safety for all pedestrians. The Marshall Police Department said all appropriate signage and roadway markings are now in place at the affected locations, which include: Sanford Street and West Emory Street – intersections is now a four way stop. St. Francis Street and Meadow Street – intersection is now a four way stop. Hollis Taylor Street – street is now one way westbound from Meadow Street to Washington Avenue. 'We want drivers to be aware of these changes before school starts,' Marshall Police Chief Cliff Carruth said. 'These updates are designed with community safety in mind, especially for our students and school zones. We appreciate everyone's attention and cooperation.' Marshall PD collects 240.1 pounds of unused medication during Drug Takeback
MARSHALL, Texas (KETK) — Marshall Police Department announced Wednesday they collected 240.1 pounds of unneeded or expired medication during Drug Takeback initiative. East Texas schools announce early release ahead of potential severe storms The Drug Takeback initiative is a nationwide movement that encourages communities to safely throw out their unneeded or expired prescription medication, preventing drug misuse. Getting these drugs off the street also protects our environment from harmful chemicals. 'This amount reflects our community's strong commitment to public safety and health,' Chief Cliff Carruth said. 'By removing these medications from homes, we are helping prevent misuseand keeping potentially harmful substances out of the hands of our children and out of ourwater supply.' Marshall PD has a green collection drop box in the lobby at 2101 N. East End Blvd available every day where people can dispose of unused medication. The 240 pound collection took place over the past six months and the medication was given to the DEA for disposal on April 28. Marshall PD to honor fallen officers during National Police Week
MARSHALL, Texas (KETK) – Police departments across the country, including East Texas departments, are preparing to honor fallen officers during National Police Week, which will be held this May. Beloved Pyron House to remain open to public under new ownership The Marshall Police Department will host the memorial service on May 15, on National Peace Officers Memorial Day, to honor the lives of fallen officers throughout this past year. The service will be held at the Marshall Convention Center beginning at noon. The Marshall Police Department, Harrison County Sheriff's Office and other local law enforcement agencies will honor fallen officers from across the country. Additionally, fallen officers will be honored during the 37th Annual Candlelight Vigil on May 13 in Washington. The vigil will remember the lives of officers whose names are engraved on the walls of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial. In 2025, 345 officers will be engraved on to the wall, including 148 officers who were killed in 2024. There are currently 24,412 names engraved on the memorial wall. Marshall man arrested after guns, marijuana, cocaine found in home
MARSHALL, Texas (KETK) – The Harrison County Sheriff's Office has arrested a man after firearms and marijuana were found during the search of a home on Pamela Drive on Thursday. 2 people arrested in Cherokee County after meth, guns found inside home The Harrison County Sheriff's Office Emergency Response Team and the Marshall Police Department's Special Response Team helped conduct a search warrant for the residence shown in the photos below: The sheriff's office said that Justin Alshun Jones, 38 of Marshall, was found inside the the home and arrested for felony arrest warrants. According to a post from the sheriff's office, investigators then requested another search warrant in order to look for drugs at the residence. Officials reported finding the following items during their second search: 2.5 pounds of marijuana 71 grams of cocaine $1,535 A Diamondback AR-15 5.56 rifle A 9mm Ruger handgun Officers discover video of East Texas daycare worker sexually assaulting child, affidavit says Jones was charged with manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance between 4 and 200 grams, possession of marijuana between 4 ounces and 5 pounds and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. He's currently being held in the Harrison County Jail on a $100,000 bond, according to jail records. 2 arrested after stolen checks found during Marshall traffic stop
MARSHALL, Texas (KETK) – A traffic stop in Marshall led to the arrest of two residents on Tuesday where police recovered drugs and stolen checks. Henderson ISD mourns loss of student killed in car crash The Marshall Police Department said the traffic stop occurred in the area of East Grand Avenue and Bolivar Street. The individuals in the vehicle were identified as Amber Nicole Wage, 36, and LaMarcus Bernard Clayborn, 43. While officers were searching the vehicle, they reportedly found a debit card and several checks in Wage's possession that were not under her name. One of the fraudulent checks was made out to Clayborn. Authorities also found a white substance that was later identified as methamphetamine. Following the investigation, Wage and Clayborn were arrested and transported to the Harrison County Jail. Where to catch Oscar Mayer's Wienermobile in Tyler Wage was charged with possession of a controlled substance and forgery of a financial instrument. She is held on $15,000 bond. Clayborn was charged with no driver's license, no insurance and forgery of a financial instrument. His bond has been set to $7,500. 'This case highlights the importance of proactive policing, as routine traffic stops often lead to the discovery of additional criminal activity,' the Marshall Police Department said. Marshall PD advises residents to take precautions such as securing personal checks, regularly monitoring bank statements and using electronic payment methods to avoid being the victim of check fraud.
