Flights to Chicago O'Hare airport return to Greenbrier Valley Airport
LEWISBURG, WV (WVNS) – A highly requested flight route made a touchdown at the Greenbrier Valley Airport on Monday evening, June 2nd, 2025. A single Contour airplane made a safe landing onto the airports runway. Passengers and crew from Chicago were welcomed with a water cannon salute by two airport firetrucks. This was to welcome a returning flight route – Greenbrier Valley Airport to Chicago O'Hare airport. The last flight between both airports happened three years ago. Real ID is now in effect – what do you need to know? LEWISBURG, WV (WVNS) – Walking into the Greenbrier Valley Airport, it was not hard to see the changes. Scattered around TSA security were signs, asking you to 'Be Your Real ID Self.' Trump administration warns student visas are a 'privilege' that can be revoked This is all part of a new national mandate affecting the country starting on Wednesday, May 7th. 'We were pretty much ready for this. About three years ago, we updated our security cameras, our baggage equipment and everything. We did a lot of upgrades.' Martha Livesay, Airport Director at Greenbrier Valley Airport Airport travelers in the states are now required to use a federally compliant Real ID. While other forms can be used, like a passport, it too must be compliant with Real ID. Your identification is Real ID compliant if it has a star marking on the upper top portion. Airport Director Martha Livesay said if you have not gotten the appropriate ID, get it as soon as possible. 'Be prepared, make sure you have your Real ID. If you don't, go to the DMV and get it taken care of. That way, it will avoid any issues.' Bush after the September 11th attacks. Now with the law in effect, make sure you are Real ID ready! 'I don't foresee problems. Contour Airlines adds flight between Greenbrier Valley Airport and Chicago O'Hare International Airport
LEWISBURG, WV (WVNS) — A new daily flight will be added between the Greenbrier Valley Airport (LWB) and Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD). According to a press release, the new flight between the Greenbrier Valley Airport (LWB) and Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD) will be added by Contour Airlines. Greenbrier Valley Airport employees undergo live fire training The Chicago one in the past was very, very popular. People, our locals and our visitors, really loved that flight. And we are excited to bring it back. There will be an additional flight to Charlotte on Saturdays and Sundays as well. For a small airport, we're really trying to grow our airport and offer our community and our visitors what they want. It's very important to us to do a good job at this airport and that's what we're striving to do. So, this enables us to do that and we're very, very pleased to have it back. Martha Livesay | Director of Greenbrier Valley Airport The round trip flight will be offered by Contour Airlines from June 1, 2025 through October 31, 2025 once each day, as part of a temporary seasonal modification of Essential Air Service (EAS) at Greenbrier Valley Airport. The flights will have fares starting at $79 one way, and will be on an an Embraer Regional Jet aircraft. In addition, the flights will also give travelers non-stop air service from two major hubs into Greenbrier Valley Airport each day, and the ability to connect The Greenbrier to other parts of the world. Mountain State Destinations: The Greenbrier Resort Non-stop flights to almost 250 destinations in North America, South America, the Caribbean, Europe, Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and the North Atlantic region are offered at Chicago O'Hare according to the press release. The flight will add to nine round trip flights per week between Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) and Greenbrier Valley Regional Airport that are offered by Contour Airlines. The press release also stated that Greenbrier shuttle is available to transport passengers on a 13-mile scenic ride from Greenbrier Valley Airport to The Greenbrier.
