Paris FC returns to Ligue 1 after 46 years
The fans of Paris FC were overjoyed at the final whistle of the draw of his club Paris FC against Martigues (1-1) on 2nd May. It was a wait of 46 years that ended for the Paris FC as they will return to the French top flight next season after they secured the promotion. The result guaranteed them a top two finish in Ligue 2, with leaders Lorient also having secured promotion. Paris FC will join champions Paris St Germain in Ligue 1, the first time in 35 years that two clubs from the French capital will compete in the top flight in the same season. Club President Pierre Ferracci was seen celebrating wildly as his wait of 13 years ended with aplomb. In 2012, he took over as president of Paris FC (PFC), which was languishing in the third tier of French football, with the dream of bringing it back to Ligue 1. Paris FC was founded in 1969 and has spent only three seasons in the top flight of French football, the last time being in 1978-1979. This season, they experienced two historic events: the promotion to Ligue 1 and the purchase of the club by the Arnault family, who became the majority shareholders and will take full control at the end of the 2026-2027 season. While the millions from the richest family in France is yet to be injected in the PFC, the promotion has been achieved on the project built by Ferracci over several years. Paris has not had two clubs in the top division since Racing Paris 1 (formerly Matra Racing) were relegated in 1990. The city of Paris will have one of the closest derbies with PFC leaving its home, Stade Charléty, to move into the Stade Jean-Bouin and Paris Saint-Germain's Parc des Princes is only about 50 meters away.

Martigues 1-1 Paris FC – Les Parisiens seal historic promotion to Ligue 1
For the first time since the 1989-1990 season, two Paris-based sides will be featuring in France's top tier. Recently acquired by one of the richest families in France in collaboration with Red Bull, Paris FC tonight secured promotion to Ligue 1 for the first time in their history. Whilst they drew to a combative Martigues in the south of France on Friday evening, Metz's 3-3 draw with Rodez has meant Paris FC will join Paris Saint-Germain next season in the elite. Martigues desperately needed the points in their quest for survival in the second division. After a balanced first quarter hour, the hosts did well to keep the side from the capital at bay, with FCM goalkeeper Yannick Benoît Etilé having to be on hand to save from Pierre-Yves Hamel's strike early on before the Sang & Or went up the other end of the pitch and almost went ahead thanks to a diving header from Steve Solvet – Les Parisiens had Obed Nkambadio to thank for a fine save. Advertisement But Paris would take the lead early on in the second half, when Jean-Phillipe Krasso latched onto a through ball before colliding with the Martigues goalkeeper. After it was saved off the line from FCM defender Saintini, Pierre-Yves Hamel followed up with the rebound strike, much to the delight of the delegation of the PFC ownership and the away fans tucked into stands at Stade Francis Turcan. But it wasn't doom and gloom forever for the Martigues faithful, as Orinel was played through on goal and curled a shot over the top of Nkabadio and into the back of the net. With Clermont winning against Annecy, Les Sang & Or needed to get another to keep their dreams of staying up in Ligue 2. Jean-Phillipe Krasso had a wonderful opportunity to put PFC ahead with his driving run into the box but dragged his shot wide. It was Illan Kebbal's turn to edge ever closer, with a curled strike on the edge of the box rattling the post. A draw was enough on the pitch, but Paris FC's players had to wait until Metz completed a thrilling draw with Rodez (3-3) to confirmed what many had foreseen for weeks now – a second Parisien club in the French elite. Big screen promotion? Paris FC invites fans to a giant cinema for its decisive match
PARIS (AP) — Paris FC did not want any fans missing out on watching a match to secure promotion to the French league's top flight. So the club invited them to view Friday night's game at a famed Paris concert hall. Paris FC is in second place in Ligue 2 and playing at Martigues, where a win guarantees promotion for Paris FC and sets up a mouth-watering derby against Ligue 1 champion Paris Saint-Germain next season. But Martigues is about 800 kilometers (500 miles) away and tickets are scarce for away fans. So the club invited those not making the long trip to take a shorter one across the city to the Grand Rex, a much-loved Paris venue that also has seven cinema screens — the biggest of which holds 2,700 seats. 'Paris FC invites you to share in a unique evening,' the club posted on X on Wednesday. 'Rendez-vous at @LeGrandRex to support our players against Martigues on a giant screen. We await you (wearing) blue and white to experience this penultimate round (of the season) together." Message received. Two hours after the message, all the places were taken. Located in the vibrant Grands Boulevards district among restaurants and bars and near the iconic République square in central Paris, the Grand Rex was voted as the world's most beautiful cinema by Time Out earlier this year. The venue opened in 1932 and recently was restored with its original façade to coincide with its 90th birthday. Paris FC has big ambitions after being purchased by France's richest family, the Arnaults of luxury empire LVMH.
