Autopsy of woman found dead in apartment block in Auckland's Parnell 'inconclusive'

(File photo) Photo: RNZ / Marika Khabazi The post-mortem of a woman found dead in an Auckland apartment block last week is "inconclusive", police say. She's been named on Monday as Leiann Rae Davis. The 59-year-old was found unresponsive by emergency services at an apartment block on Cracroft St, Parnell on Thursday night. Detective Senior Sergeant Martin Friend, said her death was still under investigation and remained unexplained. They were waiting for detailed pathology results. A funeral was held at the weekend. Anyone with information that could help police could update them online or call 105 using the reference number 250808/6672. Information could also be provided anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111. Police investigation launched after unexplained death in Auckland's Parnell
Photo: RNZ / Angus Dreaver Police are investigating the unexplained death of a woman in Parnell on Thursday night. Emergency services were called to an apartment block on Cracroft Street just after 9.30pm. Detective Senior Sergeant Martin Friend said a scene examination will begin this morning. The woman was located unresponsive inside a unit and was pronounced deceased, he said. "The circumstances of her death are unclear, and police have commenced an investigation into what has occurred. "At this very early stage, we are treating the woman's death as unexplained." Police had two scene guards in place at the unit overnight. "As part of our investigation, a post-mortem is scheduled to be carried out today," Friend said. "Police will remain in the Parnell area as part of our enquiries." Man appears in court over stolen Highlanders equipment

PHOTO: GETTY IMAGES An Auckland man has been arrested and two others are on the run after allegedly stealing almost $40,000 worth of equipment belonging to the Highlanders rugby team. The New Zealand Herald reported yesterday the incident occurred during the Dunedin team's stay in Auckland, a day after their victory over Moana Pasifika in round three of Super Rugby Pacific on February 28. Auckland City area investigations manager Detective Senior Sergeant Martin Friend said in a statement police received a report of three people allegedly seen breaking into a vehicle in a carpark outside an Albert St building about 3am on March 1. The trio were allegedly "removing a number of items" from the vehicle, Det Snr Sgt Friend said. Court documents state items stolen included laptops, tablets and "specialised rugby equipment", valued at $38,303.53. "A search warrant executed in Eden Tce [on April 15] located charging cables belonging to the stolen laptops," police said. It is unclear if all of the stolen property has been recovered. A 33-year-old man appeared in the Auckland District Court on Monday charged with theft and has been remanded in custody ahead of his second appearance on Tuesday. The maximum penalty for the offence is seven years' imprisonment. New Zealand Rugby referred all questions to the Highlanders. The Highlanders declined to comment. — APL

Man to appear in Auckland District court for central city shooting

Photo: RNZ/Marika Khabazi A 28-year-old man is due in the Auckland District Court on Wednesday over a shooting in the central city that left another man seriously injured . It happened on Fort Street, just before 4am in the morning on April the 27th. The victim is still recovering at home almost two weeks later. On Wednesday police executed a search warrant in Avondale and arrested a 28 year old man. He has been charged with presenting a firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm and wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. Auckland City Central area investigations manager, detective senior sergeant Martin Friend, said police had been working with the victim and his family. "We appreciate the incident did create some nervousness within the community, and we have been working around ongoing visibility in the city as a result," Friend said.
