The Gainesville Guardian weekly newsletter continues to inform readers about things going on in the community, especially in east Gainesville and the local Black community. Recent stories included in the newsletter include one focused on the Female Protective Society, the oldest Black women's organization in Alachua County. Other stories include one about Compassionate Outreach Ministries honoring its founder, the late Bishop Larry J. Dennison; and one about an Eastside High School senior overcoming mental health issues to find success in life and be the recipient of this year's Joseph 'Joel' Buchanan Drum Major for Justice Scholarship, awarded by the Martin Luther King Jr. Commission of Florida. We reported on Bishop Christopher Stokes receiving the Drum Major for Justice Faith Award from the Martin Luther King Jr. Commission of Florida. The award is given to a faith-based leader who makes an impact in the community. Another story told you about Assurance, a new nonprofit started by Virginia Grant, whose mission is to connect caregivers to resources in the community.
