UNC's Mike Lombardi calls out ‘comical' Bill Belichick, Jordon Hudson ‘narrative'

'Noise' is the new buzzword at North Carolina for describing anything mentioning the 'It' couple on campus. North Carolina football general manager Michael Lombardi – head coach Bill Belichick's right-hand man – appeared Saturday on ESPN Radio's 'Marty and McGee' and was asked about all the recent reporting around Belichick and girlfriend Jordon Hudson. 'I mean, a lot of it is just noise,' Lombardi said, according to Pro Football Talk. 'And for us to be distracted by something that has no bearing, that has no relevance whatsoever, that is a complete falsehood in terms of what people are saying or what they're writing, it's comical. And for me to really even attack anybody who's saying it gives them credibility. Which I don't, because it's a completely false narrative.' AP Belichick used the same term this week when asked about the slew of reports that have followed his disastrous 'CBS Sunday Morning' interview in April. It was meant to promote his book 'The Art of Winning,' but ended up drawing attention to the influence that the 24-year-old Hudson seems to be wielding over the 73-year-old greatest coach in NFL history because she wouldn't let him answer a question on how they met. Advertisement 'Look, I'm really focused on doing my job here at North Carolina… that's my big focus,' Belichick said when asked what the biggest misconception about him is amid the public interest in his personal life. 'Is there noise out there? We've always dealt with that.' While Belichick didn't get into specific denials, Lombardi sort of did. He twisted an interpretation of factual reports that Belichick's contract buyout dropped from $10 million to $1 million on June 1. Getty Images 'One report [said Belichick] wasn't supposed to be here [at] the beginning of June. And the next report came out that he was going to go back to the NFL,' Lombardi said. 'I mean, it's all just a bunch of stuff being thrown up against the wall. … And the noise out there comes from a direction of people trying to be disruptive within our program. We're not going to allow it. We're not going to acknowledge it. We're going to move on. And look, let's face it, the proof's in the pudding. We're having a tremendous recruiting class. We had a tremendous portal.' Advertisement Former Bears public relations executive Brandon Faber joined the North Carolina staff in May. Some of the reports that have surfaced are based on open public records like emails from university addresses and The Post's combing through real-estate purchase documents. 'Everybody looked at each other and was like in complete amazement,' Lombardi said of the public reaction to the CBS interview. 'I mean, so, we didn't have any reason to circle the wagons. The reason we had was to focus on what we're going to do. As Bill said in a lot of the interviews — and I don't want to speak for Coach Belichick — but he said, 'Look, Jordon does stuff in his business outside of North Carolina football, not here.' 'I mean, it's just completely a story that was generated from — basically, made up. You could be a great novelist, some of the people that report this stuff.'
