Broncos roster: Marvin Mims (No. 19) is a do-everything weapon
Broncos roster: Marvin Mims (No. 19) is a do-everything weapon Broncos Wire's 90-man offseason roster series continues today with a look at third-year wide receiver Marvin Mims, No. 19. Before the Broncos: Mims (5-11, 182 pounds) was a speedster at the University of Oklahoma, where he excelled at special teams and wide receiver. Mims played three years (2020-22) in Norman, Oklahoma. Mims was the kind of do-it-all player that NFL coaches love. Mims caught 123 passes for 2,398 yards and 20 touchdowns, rushed five times for 35 yards, and returned 33 punts for 391 yards and three kickoffs for 108 yards. Mims' abilities all over the field caught the eye of Broncos head coach Sean Payton, who selected Mims in the second round (63rd overall) in the 2023 NFL draft. Broncos tenure: Mims struggled to find his place on offense in 2023, catching only 22 passes for 307 yards and one touchdown, with two fumbles. However, Mims excelled on special teams, returning 15 kickoffs for 397 yards and one touchdown (leading the NFL), and 19 punts for 319 yards. Mims earned a Pro Bowl nod and second-team All-Pro honors as a return specialist following his rookie campaign. In 2024, Mims figured out a place on offense, catching 39 passes for 503 yards and six touchdowns while rushing 13 times for 42 yards. Mims provided several big moments on offense, including a game-tying touchdown against the Cincinnati Bengals and an electrifying 93-yard touchdown catch against the Cleveland Browns. On the special teams side, Mims led the NFL with 15.7 yards per punt return (26 returns for 408 yards) and seven kickoff returns for 194 yards, earning Mims yet another Pro Bowl nod and a first-team All-Pro selection. Chances to make the 53-man roster: Lock. With Mims playing at a high level on special teams, the Broncos will continue to use him on kickoffs and punt returns. Following an explosion on offense during the 2024 season, Mims also figures to remain a key receiver for Denver in 2025. Related: These 25 celebrities are Broncos fans.

Marvin Mims 'took off' when Broncos found his perfect role
Talk about a Year 2 leap. Marvin Mims made an instant impact with the Denver Broncos as a rookie, earning a second-team All-Pro nod and Pro Bowl berth as a returner, but he didn't have a big role on offense. That changed in his second season. Advertisement Last fall, Mims ranked second in receiving yards (503) and second in receiving touchdowns (six) while also rushing 13 times for 42 yards and totaling 602 return yards. He led the NFL with 15.7 yards per punt return in 2024 and earned a first-team All-Pro selection and his second Pro Bowl nod. 'Yes he really did," Broncos general manager George Paton said in March when asked about Mims taking a jump in Year 2. "He took that next step. Sean [Payton] used him a little differently than we had in the prior [season]. He's just grown. He's grown as a pro. "You can see the confidence when he started getting touches, and [when we] used him in different areas, he just took off. I think it has to do with confidence, kind of the way we used him and the way we incorporated him in our offense.' Through two seasons with the Broncos, Mims has now totaled 2,263 all-purpose yards and scored eight touchdowns. He has emerged as a key weapon for Denver both on offense and special teams, and at just 23 years old, the talented young receiver is poised to continue improving with the Broncos. Broncos like NFL's new kickoff rule (and two other proposals were tabled)
Broncos like NFL's new kickoff rule (and two other proposals were tabled) The NFL has a new kickoff rule for the 2025 season. Starting this season, touchbacks will now be spotted at the 35-yard line (moved up five yards from last year's 30-yard line designation). The new rule aims to encourage more kickoff returns. It's good news for the Denver Broncos because opponents will now have the option of kicking to Marvin Mims -- one of the best returners in the NFL -- or giving quarterback Bo Nix just 65 yards to drive for a touchdown. "We're for it," Broncos coach Sean Payton said of touchbacks being spotted at the 35. Payton is also in favor of the new rule that says both teams will now get to possess the ball in regular season overtime games (that was already the rule for playoff games). Two other proposed rules were tabled at the Annual League Meeting on Monday. The "Tush Push" ban won't be implemented (at least not yet), and playoff teams won't be re-seeded. The proposed rule would prevent division winners from hosting a playoff game against a team with a better record. Payton doesn't want it to pass. 'This is probably the third time — every six years, this topic comes up," Payton said Monday. "We will be talking about it six years from now, hopefully. Look, I was in New Orleans in 2010. We had, I think, an 11-win team and went to Seattle to play a seven-win team. If you actually study the results of that matchup — let's just say .500 or below and playing at home — it's about 50-50. "So to answer your question, I think winning the division is important. I like how our playoff format is laid out, especially compared to any other sport. This is the third go-around of this topic. It will continue to repeat itself, but I think we would vote against the re-seeding.' As for the "Tush Push" play, a potential ban could be relevant for Denver because they are scheduled to play the Philadelphia Eagles on the road this season. The play isn't being banned this week, but NFL owners might revisit the topic in May. These 25 celebrities are Broncos fans
