Residents of Sariaya, Quezon receive free medical services from GMA Kapuso Foundation
GMA Kapuso Foundation brought free medical services to the fisherfolk and divers in Sariaya, Quezon in recognition of Hypertension Awareness Month.
According to '24 Oras' Friday, among those whose livelihood depends on fishing is Marvin Rubia, who helps his mother-in-law who suffered a stroke in 2022.
'Doktor daw pong magpapagaling sa kaniya. Wala naman pong pera eh. 'Yung kinikita ko lang po, sapat lang sa pamilya namin,' Marvin said.
Marvin's father also constantly feels dizzy and gets abdominal pain.
In partnership with New World Diagnostics, GMA Kapuso Foundation offered free electrocardiogram (ECG) tests, hemoglobin A1C blood tests, and urinalysis to check for conditions like hypertension, kidney disease, or heart problems.
Consultations and a health lecture were also part of the activity.
''Yung iba baka walang mararamdaman kasi siya po ay silent killer or minsan tahimik lang pero nagko-cause na ng damage,' said Dr. Kevin Francis Uy Ang, an internal medicine specialist.
'Important kasi po stroke, 'no? May mga medications na need to be continued para hindi po maulit 'yung kaniyang stroke. Si tatay naman, we gave 'yung mga requests po para malaman kung ano 'yung cause ng abdominal pain niya,' he said.
A total of 100 beneficiaries also received medicine, giveaways, and food
"Nabigyan sila ng first na gamot. 'Pag natapos na, pumunta sila sa aming center. Kailangan pong ma-maintain nila,' said Sariaya Municipal Health Officer Irma Cadiz.
