Chopticon beats Sherwood in 3A softball final, earning first title in 40 years
Facing Sherwood's Faith Goolsbee with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Chopticon pitcher Karllie Nelson fell behind in the count. With a runner on first and Chopticon up by two, Goolsbie represented the tying run. The sticky situation was nothing new for Nelson, who had battled from behind against hitters all Friday night in the Maryland Class 3A softball final. But when Nelson tossed an inside fastball, Goolsbie got her hands to the ball and launched it in the air.

Marriotts Ridge stuns Severna Park in Maryland Class 3A girls' lacrosse final
OWINGS MILLS, Md. — As a light rain fell onto the turf at Stevenson University in the early stages of the fourth quarter, it seemed as though the Severna Park girls' lacrosse program was heading into familiar territory. Leading Marriotts Ridge by two goals with six minutes remaining in Wednesday's Maryland Class 3A title game, the Falcons had a three-peat in sight.
