Mas Ermieyati unfazed by Asyraf's lawsuit threat

Masjid Tanah MP Mas Ermieyati Samsudin said Mara chairman Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki should not use Mara or its lawyers to file a personal lawsuit against her. PETALING JAYA : Bersatu's Mas Ermieyati Samsudin says she is unfazed by Mara chairman Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki's threat of Bersatu's Mas Ermieyati Samsudin says she is unfazed by Mara chairman Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki's threat of legal action against her for allegedly defaming him over the management of the agency's funds. The Wanita Bersatu chief said her criticism stemmed from messages and complaints conveyed to her by the public, particularly parents and students. She also said that Asyraf, the Umno secretary-general, should not use Mara or its lawyers to file a personal lawsuit against her. 'I will not be intimidated by such threats of legal action,' the Masjid Tanah MP said in a statement. 'If he believes what I've raised is slander, he should answer with facts, not by threatening to sue (me). 'I will continue to speak up for Bumiputera children, for technical and vocational education and training (TVET) students, for the Malaysian people, and for our beloved country.' Asyraf yesterday said that Mas Ermieyati had levelled a series of allegations against him, including accusing him of not funding TVET students. In her statement, Mas Ermieyati challenged Asyraf to explain why the online application process for the March 2025 student intake remained closed. She also asked him to clarify the status of delayed disbursements for TVET loans and whether Mara had discontinued the technical and entrepreneurial skills training programme. She likewise asked whether public funds had been used for recent domestic and international trips by Asyraf and his entourage.

Threats to resign only disrupt the party, says PKR's Zaliha

PKR election committee chairman Dr Zaliha Mustafa said party leaders must not make hasty or emotional decisions that may spread disunity. (Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : PKR election committee chairman Dr Zaliha Mustafa has urged fellow party leaders to think rationally instead of being led by their emotions, ahead of the central leadership polls and national congress this month. Commenting on PKR division committee members threatening to quit following the divisional elections last month, Zaliha said leaders in the party must not make such hasty or emotional decisions that may spread disunity. She added that threatening to resign only disrupted efforts to bolster the party and could also affect the running of the congress from May 21 to 24. 'Think before taking any action. The most important thing after this election is for us to unite and close ranks for the sake of the party's strength and continue to fight for the agenda of developing the country,' she said, according to Bernama. Earlier, PKR secretary-general Fuziah Salleh said some PKR division committee members had threatened to resign because they disagreed with or disliked the elected division head. Fifteen Masjid Tanah PKR office bearers had also quit their posts but retracted their resignations today, saying they will continue to serve in their elected roles. PKR information chief Fahmi Fadzil then said disciplinary action may be taken against those who threaten to resign or attempt to disrupt the running of the party's congress. Zaliha said the contest between Rafizi Ramli and Nurul Izzah Anwar for the PKR deputy presidency reflected the mature and healthy culture of democracy in the party. She added that there was 'no issue with anyone stepping forward to contest' for a post. 'Each of them has their own strength, talent and track record. This should be harnessed for the party's benefit, particularly to strengthen PKR's position and secure victory in the next general election,' she said. Rafizi previously slammed Zaliha over her handling of the party's divisional elections, which had resulted in many of his allies losing their contest. He also accused her of ignoring hundreds of objections filed by members.

15 Masjid Tanah PKR office bearers retract resignations

Earlier, it was reported that the 15 had resigned over dissatisfaction with the Masjid Tanah division chief's leadership and after being instigated by a fellow member. (Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : All 15 Masjid Tanah PKR division office bearers who relinquished their posts yesterday have retracted their resignations, saying they will continue to serve in their elected roles. In a letter signed by deputy division chief Sunar Misran, who claimed to be representing the other 14, the office bearers collectively decided to withdraw their resignations. The letter, dated today and addressed to PKR secretary-general Fuziah Salleh, stated that the decision to retract the resignations came after consultations with various party stakeholders and a re-evaluation of the situation in the division. 'After taking into account the views of many parties, especially our colleagues and grassroots members, and after reassessing the current state of the division and the party's struggle, I, representing all elected leaders who previously resigned, have decided to withdraw all our resignations and continue carrying out our responsibilities in our current capacities,' Sunar wrote. This matter was also confirmed by Fuziah when contacted. Separately, a PKR source told FMT that the member who sent the letter of the mass resignations had lost in the division polls. The source claimed the said member had instigated those who won to resign from their positions. While those who resigned were not happy with the division chief who won (in the polls), they 'were clueless on what to do' next. 'Although they resigned, the division will not be dissolved because it did not involve two-thirds of the division. The one who instigated (the resignations) wanted the division to be dissolved ,' the source said. The source added that once the situation was explained to those who had resigned, they had reconsidered their decisions. Yesterday, Malaysiakini reported that the 15 leaders — including Sunar and vice-chief Lee Kin Mio — had quit with immediate effect following dissatisfaction with division chief Halim Bachik's leadership. A source from Malacca PKR told Malaysiakini that the group had lost faith in Halim. A party headquarters source confirmed that resignation letters were received around 12.30pm. In the latest letter, however, the 15 indicated a renewed commitment to party unity and the grassroots struggle. 'We believe there is still much room and efforts that we can contribute to strengthening the division and supporting the party's aspirations at the grassroots level. 'We hope this decision will be accepted and officially recorded by the secretary-general's office,' the letter said. Sunar also expressed regret over any confusion or inconvenience caused by the initial resignations and thanked the party leadership for their trust and continued support.
