UAE Leads the World in Fibre-to-the-Home Coverage at 99.5%
The United Arab Emirates has set a new global record in fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) coverage, reaching 99.5%. This achievement maintains the UAE's position as the number one country in the world for FTTH, according to the FTTH Council Europe's 2024 report. The UAE has held the top spot since 2016. The report shows the UAE ahead of other advanced countries. South Korea ranked second with 96.6%, followed by China at 93.6%. Hong Kong came in fifth with 89.9%. Behind this success is e& UAE, a key player in the nation's telecom sector. The company holds the highest fixed broadband penetration rate across the country. Its fibre-optic infrastructure spans over 14.5 million kilometres—more than 360 times the Earth's circumference. As a result, over 2.88 million homes in the UAE enjoy high-speed internet access. This progress reflects e& UAE's strong 'Fiber-First' strategy. The company puts fibre-optic technology at the core of its mission to deliver fast, reliable, and seamless connectivity. Because of this approach, e& UAE continues to lead as a trusted internet service provider. It supports the UAE's digital goals and helps the country stay ahead in global digital transformation. Masood M. Sharif Mahmood, CEO of e& UAE, said this milestone is the result of long-term efforts. The journey began in 1986 when the company first introduced fibre-optic technology in the UAE's transport network. In 2011, Abu Dhabi became the first capital in the world to be fully covered by fibre. Today, this achievement highlights e& UAE's commitment to innovation and progress. It also supports the goals of the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority, aiming to make the UAE a global leader in connectivity. To build on this success, e& UAE is expanding fibre coverage even further. New services like Fibre-to-the-Yacht (FTTY) bring high-speed internet to marinas. Meanwhile, Fibre-to-the-Room (FTTR) ensures strong connectivity throughout the home, ideal for smart living. With every step, e& UAE is shaping the future of digital infrastructure in the UAE and beyond.
