Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian on Tuesday appointed Ali Larijani as secretary of the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), the country's top defense and foreign policy decision-making body. The move represents what Iranian historian Arash Azizi called a 'subtle change,' positioning Larijani — a seasoned, pragmatic political figure — in one of the most influential roles in Iran's security architecture. Iranian PM to visit Pakistan for 2-day visit on Saturday
Islamabad, Jul 31 (PTI) Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian will visit Pakistan on Saturday for a two-day official trip, during which he will hold talks with the country's top leadership on enhancing bilateral ties as well as the recent Iran-Israel conflict, according to a media report. He will visit Pakistan at the invitation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, according to the Express Tribune newspaper. Pezeshkian is scheduled to meet the country's top civil and military leaders including the President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Sharif and Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir, the report said, quoting officials. He will land in Lahore from where he will travel to Islamabad for the meetings. Iranian media reported that Pezeshkian's agenda includes high-level meetings and dialogues with cultural and business leaders. Discussions are expected to focus on strengthening bilateral relations, which span political, economic, religious, and cultural dimensions. Also in focus would be the current regional developments including the Iran-Israel conflict, tensions in South Asia and the situation in Gaza, according to the report. A key objective of the visit is also to expand cross-border and provincial cooperation, with hopes of increasing current trade volumes beyond the existing USD 3 billion. During the Israel-Iran conflict last month, Pakistan expressed complete solidarity with Tehran and committed to support it at all forums. Iranian president injured during war with Israel, says report
dpa Tehran Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian narrowly escaped being killed during the 12-day war with Israel, according to an Iranian media report. The Iranian news agency Fars reported that Israel's air force bombed a National Security Council building complex on June 16, three days after the war began. Following the attack, the power went out, the report said. The participants of the crisis meeting managed to get to safety but some of them, including Pezeshkian, sustained leg injuries. The Security Council deals with issues of defence and the protection of state ideology. Chaired by the president, the powerful body has around a dozen members, including several ministers and generals. In an interview with US talk show host Tucker Carlson about a week ago, Pezeshkian had already mentioned the attempt to assassinate him, citing a possible intelligence leak. There is speculation about the infiltration of an agent, according to Fars. Meanwhile, a video was shared in Iranian media purportedly showing bombings on a mountainside in the west of Tehran. If that is the case, 'it would suggest that Israel intended to take out the entire government, not just the military leadership,' analyst Gregory Brew of the Eurasia Group said in a post on X. He also said he thought that Israel would try again if hostilities resume. Israel began a war against Iran on June 13, attacking targets nationwide including nuclear facilities and also killing top scientists and military leaders. Iran's armed forces responded with missile attacks. Both countries recorded casualties including civilians. Just over a week after the war began, Washington intervened and bombed three of Iran's most important nuclear sites. After 12 days of attacks, a ceasefire was unexpectedly announced.

Iran suspends cooperation with IAEA, says progress in nuclear industry will continue
Tehran, July 2 (UNI) Iran today suspended its cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and asserted that progress in the country's nuclear industry would always continue decisively. The announcement was made by Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian here. The bill to suspend cooperation with the IAEA has already been approved by lawmakers. Iran is also considering a ban on the entry of IAEA chief, Rafael Grossi, who has come under fire for "facilitating" US attacks against Iran. Meanwhile, the head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Mohammad Eslami said it was impossible to destroy Iran's nuclear industry with bombardment. Speaking to reporters, he emphasized that Iran's nuclear industry is not something that could be eliminated with bombs because it is a homegrown industry and technology embedded in the country. "Progress in the nuclear industry of Iran will always continue decisively," he stated. According to Iranian Parliament's resolution IAEA inspectors will not be permitted to enter Iran unless the security of the country's nuclear facilities and that of peaceful nuclear activities is guaranteed, which is subject to the approval of Iran's Supreme National Security Council. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned EU foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas, against complicating the diplomatic path by supporting Israel's aggression on Iran. In a phone call with the Kaja Kallas, the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, the Iranian Foreign Minister warned against what he called the 'destructive approach' of several European countries. Araghchi criticized some European countries and the IAEA DG for their statement during the recent meeting of Agency's Board of Governors and the subsequent resolution and their continued support for Israeli and US aggression against Iran and their failure to condemn the strikes targeting Iran's nuclear facilities. He warned that the continuation of such a destructive approach by several European countries would complicate the existing conditions and make the path of diplomacy more difficult.
