Maid murder verdict postponed
KOTA KINABALU (May 2): The High Court here has postponed its decision on a contractor and an engineer accused of murdering their maid four years ago to May 16.
Counsel Dato Seri Rakhbir Singh, representing the second accused, Etiqah Siti Noorashikeen Mohd Sulong, recently filed a further submission on the issue of similar-fact evidence, arguing that the evidence was not rebutted.
Judge Datuk Dr Lim Hock Leng directed both the prosecution and defence to respond, if necessary, to the submission and fixed the clarification and decision date for 9am on May 16.
Muhammad Ambree Yunos, 40, and his ex-wife Etiqah, 33 — a former finalist in MasterChef Malaysia 2012 — are accused of murdering Siti Afiah Daeng Damin, a 28-year-old Malaysian, at a condominium in Penampang between December 8 and 11, 2021.
They are charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty or imprisonment of up to 40 years and not less than 12 strokes of the cane upon conviction.
The case was first brought to court on December 29, 2021. The High Court had initially scheduled April 30 this year to deliver its ruling.
The first accused is represented by counsel Datuk Ram Singh.
