Cameras Catch Scottie Scheffler's Son's Special Moment at PGA Championship

Scottie Scheffler showed the world, once again, why he is the best golfer on the planet. The No. 1 ranked golfer in the world won his first PGA Championship on Sunday, his third major of his career. Scheffler won the 2022 and 2024 Masters, and has many other career highlights including becoming the first golfer to win The Players Championship in back-to-back years (2023 and 2024). Advertisement Scheffler entered the final round with a three-stroke lead over Alex Noren. Scheffler would finish his final round with an even-par 71, walking away with a five-stroke victory over second place finishers Bryson DeChambeau, Davis Riley and Harris English. Alongside Scheffler at Quail Hollow on Sunday, was his wife Meredith, their one-year-old son, Bennett, and Scheffler's parents, Scott and Diane Scheffler. While the celebration and fanfare was going on around the course following the hoisting of the Wanamaker Trophy, another (apparent) family milestone took place seemingly unnoticed. The camera of Mike Solarte, the Sports Director at Spectrum News 1 in Charlotte, caught Scheffler's son, Bennett, standing on his own for the first time. Advertisement While it has not been confirmed if this was the first time Bennett ever stood up on his own, mom's reaction certainly seemed that way. While the video has been picked up by larger media outlets, totaling over four million views, Solarte had it first, posting it to his official X account (@MikeSolarte). Following his final putt, Scheffler walked the rope of fans with his son in his arms, as the two made their way to sign dad's final scorecard. Scheffler went viral for placing Bennett on the floor, dropping his hat on the floor as a momentary distraction, before heading to the scorer's table. Dustin Johnson, a prominent figure in the LIV Golf league and one of the sport's most accomplished players, has long praised his wife for being the glue that holds their family together, especially during the intense travel and time commitments professional golf demands. In an earlier interview with People, he shared, "She's such a big supporter of mine... with golf or any professional athlete, or even a business, you got to have somebody to support you." He added, "She does a great job taking care of everything else, so all I got to do is worry about golf." Gretzky, who comes from sports royalty as the daughter of NHL legend Wayne Gretzky , understands the spotlight. But she's also been open about the challenges of growing up in the public eye. "I never got to be a kid," she said on The Netchicks podcast. "Not to say I am missing out on things — I had the best life ever — but it's hard to always have to censor myself." Today, her focus is firmly on her family. She and Johnson are raising their two sons, Tatum and River, with a shared commitment to balance fame and family life. As Johnson told Golfweek, "For me, golf was always the most important thing. And now, it's Paulina and the kids... they'll always be the most important." Masters 2025 Par 3 Contest: Tee times, past winners and how to watch the one-round competition

The first round of the 2025 Masters doesn't get underway until Thursday, but a number of golf stars will take to the course a day early to take part in one of the event's most storied traditions. The Masters Par 3 Contest will take place Wednesday, and promises to be a fun warmup ahead of the first round. Ninety-one players — including current golfers and past champions — will take on Augusta's Par 3 course in a one-round competition Wednesday. Masters Tournament favorite Scottie Scheffler will be among that group, as will other standouts like Rory McIlroy, Bryson DeChambeau, Gary Player and Tom Watson. Here's what you need to know about the Masters Par 3 Contest before all the action gets underway. The Masters Par 3 Contest is a tradition at Augusta National. A day before the first round of the Masters, golfers play a one-round competition on Augusta's Par 3 course. It's more of a relaxed atmosphere, as golfers often involve their children in the festivities. Augusta's Par 3 course spans nine holes. The Par 3 Contest began in 1960 and has grown more popular since its inception. The course underwent a significant renovation ahead of the 2023 Masters Par 3 Contest. The Masters Par 3 Contest will air on ESPN on Wednesday. Masters coverage begins at 12 p.m. ET. The network will broadcast the Par 3 Contest starting at 2 p.m. ET. It will run until 4 p.m ET. The Masters app, and ESPN+ will provide early streaming coverage. There's no money associated with winning the Masters Par 3 Contest. Golfers receive a trophy for taking home the top prize at the event. While that sounds harmless, there's a reason golfers should avoid winning the Par 3 Contest. Some believe there's a Masters Par 3 Contest curse. No golfer who has won the Par 3 Contest has gone on to win the Masters that same year.
