FRESHEN UP: Hard water can lead to build-up on clothes that makes whites look dull. Try soaking whites overnight in a mixture of one part vinegar to four parts water to strip away any fabric softener and mineral deposits. Then put in the washing machine on a hot cycle. Add some soda crystals to soften the water and hopefully your clothes will come out of the wash looking a little brighter. WASH 'N' SOAK: Is your shower head a little blocked? Limescale can build there, obstructing the usual spray. If you can, unscrew your shower head, soak it overnight in a bowl of white vinegar to dissolve deposits, then rinse it before reattaching. If you can't remove your shower head, fill a sandwich bag with vinegar then tie it to your shower and leave overnight, making sure the showerhead is fully submerged. For taps and tiles, just wipe them with a vinegar-soaked cloth regularly for a shiny look. It's also worth keeping a squeegee in the shower to wipe glass doors after each use, to prevent water spots. A pack of two costs £1 at Savers. HAIR CARE: Hard water can leave hair dull and brittle. At the end of your shower, try a cold-water rinse, or apply coconut oil before showering because it acts as a barrier. A weekly apple-cider vinegar rinse, one part vinegar to three parts water, helps remove build-up. My three-ingredient trick removes hard water stains in one second - and you've got everything you need in your cupboards Or get a showerhead filter such as the JML Pure shower plus filtering shower head, usually £14.99, now £9.99, at Morrisons. BOILING POINT: Prevent limescale by adding a marble to kettles or buy Chef Aid kettle descaler, £1.50, at Dunelm. For dishwashers, top up salt and try descaling once every six months with the Oust dishwasher descaler, £2.52 at Asda. You get two sachets, so you can use one in your washing machine to remove limescale. All prices on page correct at time of going to press. Deals and offers subject to availability.
