The private medical university announced Wednesday the launch of the Dr. Robert and Brenda Good Faculty Development Academy, a campus-wide initiative to 'advance excellence in teaching, educational research and leadership among its faculty members,' according to a news release. 'This is a bold, forward-looking initiative designed to support faculty throughout their professional growth,' said DMU Assistant Vice President for Academic Innovation and Enhancement Nehad El-Sawi in the release. 'From peer-led consultations to faculty workshops on cutting-edge topics like artificial intelligence and enhanced preceptor development, the academy fosters a collaborative ecosystem for academic excellence.' SUBSCRIBE: GET THE MORNING HEADLINES DELIVERED TO YOUR INBOX According to the release, the initiative will focus on six areas relating to faculty training and development, including improving onboarding, offering continuous professional development, encouraging educational research, furthering collaboration across campus and bettering teaching skills. El-Sawi said in the release this initiative will help the college invest in the future of health care by investing in its own faculty. A gift from 1977 DMU graduate Robert Good and his wife, Brenda, is funding the program, the release stated. DMU Director of Marketing and Communications Denise Lamphier said in an email the university is not providing the gift amount at the request of the donors. The Goods said in the release DMU needs to give the students who will eventually be caring for Iowans and others the best start they can, and a way to do that is to ensure faculty have the best training and skills to pass onto their classes. 'Their generosity will ripple through future generations and help prepare the health care heroes our world so urgently needs, including rural physicians, groundbreaking researchers and compassionate therapists,' said DMU President Angela Walker Franklin in the release. 'This is more than a gift. It's a promise of hope and innovation. The entire DMU community is grateful to the Goods for believing in our mission and investing in its future.' PSG 2 Arsenal 1 (3-1 agg): Gunners' season over as Arteta's side rue missed chances and Donnarumma puts on masterclass
NOT for the first time, Mikel Arteta's failure to do the bloody obvious and sign a no9 properly bit him on the backside. Declan Rice had called on his team to show 'big balls' but what they really needed in this semi-final was a big striker . While swashbuckling PSG continued their emergence as a major European football force, Arsenal will now be left to reflect on what could have been. Fabian Ruiz put PSG ahead and while Vitinha saw his 69th-minute penalty superbly saved by Achraf Hakimi made it 2-0 with a great finish. Bukayo Saka pulled one back and then missed a great chance which, maybe, could have forced a PSG collapse. Yet had Arsenal scored three times in a terrific early spell when PSG seemed to be doing their best to choke on the big occasion, we would certainly have had a very different semi-final. Maybe one to match the madness of the one 24 hours earlier. While Paris may be known as the city of love, Arsenal fans will not feel that way. It is 19 years since Arsene Wenger's fine team were beaten in the final by France and this latest defeat will be just as painful. Declan Rice headed Jurrien Timber's cross wide and Gabriel Martinelli . Advertisement Donnarumma seems to save his best for English teams as he saved two penalties in the Euro 2020 final shoot-out and was then also the spot-kick hero at Anfield. He was at full stretch to turn around a low, powerful shot from Martin Odegaard with the PSG defence once again struggling with a long throw from Thomas Partey . Donnarumma asked for treatment, claiming to be injured, but he was doing it to waste a bit of time as his team were on the ropes. He tried to take the sting out of Arsenal's confident, high energy start and it certainly worked. PSG finally found the zip which was lacking in the first 20 minutes and after Advertisement Declan Rice picked up a booking for wrapping his legs around Kvaratskhelia but it got much worse from Vitinha's free-kick. Partey delivered a headed clearance but Ruiz delivered a magnificent first touch with his chest to steer the ball away from Martinelli and then unleashed a fine finish from the edge of the area. It did seem to take a slight touch off Arteta went crazy in his technical area. He called over Rice for some advice and tried in vain to get a message to Saka but it was too noisy inside the stadium. Advertisement Martintelli was ordered to the touchline before being dispatched to the other side of the pitch to give Saka instructions. There was a moment when Saka delivered a ball into the area but there was no-one there and he threw his arms in the air with frustration. Saka produced Arsenal's best chance after the hour but once again, Donnarumma used his huge frame to somehow keep out the effort. A minute later, VAR spotted a handball from Myles Lewis-Skelly which blocked a shot from Hakimi. Advertisement Raya delivered an excellent save to keep out Vitinha's penalty, although a super-slow run-up made his spot-kick easy to predict. Defender Hakimi then delivered a striker's finish after a mistake by Partey to put Enrique's team in total control. There was some hope for Arsenal when Saka rounded Donnarumma to pull one back while PSG players appealed in vain for a foul from Marquinhos . And the moment which could have maybe changed the tie came when Saka somehow missed from close range but he shinned the ball over from a few yards. Six New Physicians welcomed to CVPH Family Medicine Residency
PLATTSBURGH — Six new physicians will begin their three-year Family Medicine training program here in July. The University of Vermont Health Network – Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital Family Medicine Residency introduced its incoming class of residents during a Match Day ceremony held at the hospital Friday, March 21. Match Day is the day in which the National Resident Matching Program releases results to applicants seeking residency positions. A requirement of obtaining a medical license and board certification, residency is a stage of medical training in which graduates of medical schools practice medicine under the supervision of an attending physician. Members of the CVPH Family Medicine Residency Class of 2028 are: - Lia Farrell, MD of West Virginia is a graduate of West Virginia University School of Medicine, Morgantown, West Virginia. - Irzam Khan, MD and Cristina Prudencio-Brunello, MD are both from Ontario, Canada and graduates of St. George's University School of Medicine, Grenada. - An Indiana native, Normeen Siddiqui, MD is a graduate of Ross University School of Medicine, Bridgetown, Barbados. - Muhammad Sidiqui, MD is a graduate of American University of Antiqua College of Medicine. His hometown is Rochester, NY. - Rishabh Taneja, MD of India is a graduate of Adesh Institute of Medical Sciences & Research, College of Punjab, India. Residency Program Director Marianna Worczak, MD said Match Day is an exciting time for the residency. 'Each of these new residents bring a fresh perspective and energy to our program this organization and our community. Today is a celebration of those who have worked so hard to get here and for our program and the impact we continue to have on primary care in this region,' she said. In welcoming the Class of 2028, Worczak said that each doctor has a demonstrated interest in rural health care. The CVPH Family Residency received more than 888 applications for the six spots in the Class of 2028 and conducted 110 virtual interviews after reviewing each application. Several open houses were held to provide prospective residents an opportunity to meet instructors and experience the North Country. The class was established after residents and the program's team ranked their preferences and the NRMP creates the 'match.' Established in 2014 to improve access to primary care in the region, an average of 60% of graduates have opted to stay in the Northern New York or Vermont to practice medicine. Worczak attributed that success to the support of the community, the dedication of the faculty, strong clinical experiences, a dedicated program administration, and support from CVPH and UVMHN senior leadership. The CVPH Family Medicine Residency was created in a partnership with the University of Vermont's Robert Larner College of Medicine and the University of Vermont Health Network. It offers a robust three-year program that includes rotations in emergency medicine, OB/GYN, pediatrics, cardiology, surgery, orthopedics, geriatrics and community medicine. Family Medicine Residents see their own patients in the CVPH Family Medicine Center at 159 Margaret Street and at the Hudson Headwaters Champlain Family Medicine Center.
