Huawei unveils MatePad Pro 12.2" with PaperMatte display, Freebuds 6 go global
Huawei held an event today to showcase its latest wearables. Alongside those we saw the announcement of a new tablet and the international release of another set of TWS earbuds. The tablet is called MatePad Pro 12.2" and is a natural evolution from the 2024 version launched last summer. It has a PaperMatte display with a Tandem OLED panel underneath, but it retains the same 508g body, 10,100 mAh battery and 100W wired charging. The earbuds are the Freebuds 6, available in China since March 2025. They offer AI noise cancelling and a redesigned audio driver for clearer output. As the name suggests, the MatePad Pro has a 12.2" screen. It has a resolution of 2,800 x 1840 pixels and upgrades to 3,000 nits peak brightness. Thanks to the PaperMatte display technology, the tablet significantly reduces glare and reflection. The tablet still has a dual camera setup on the back, with a 50 MP main snapper and an 8 MP ultrawide camera for those unusual moments when you have to take a group photo with a 12-inch slate. Huawei generally does not talk about its chipsets, so we can only assume it runs on the Kirin 9000S platform - we have nothing official. The tablet does come with EMUI on the international market, but interestingly, it is not available in China, so we don't know whether it runs Huawei's self-developed HarmonyOS Next. Huawei MatePad Pro 12.2" comes bundled with a magnetic keyboard. The 12/256 GB version is €849.99 (not available in the UK), while the 12/512 GB variant, which is the only one with the PaperMatte display, is £899.99/€999.99. The Freebuds 6 have the unique waterdrop-shaped (they call it droplet) stem, which is 12% smaller and 9% lighter than the predecessor. Huawei is now using AI for multi-channel noise reduction, and can filter up to 95 dB of unwanted noise. The company advertised a feature first implemented in the Freebuds Pro 4 - the ability to have a clear call while in a noisy environment, like a loud concert or a sports game. The Freebuds 6 has an AI agent in China, which is disabled in the international units. The price of Huawei Freebuds 6 is £139.99/€159.99. The audio wearables are already available on the Huawei Store.

Huawei Watch 5 and Watch Fit 4 unveiled in Berlin alongside new earbuds & tablet
Huawei has taken the wraps off its new range of wearables including a flagship smartwatch available in two sizes and eight colours to suit every stylish need. The pioneering Chinese tech firm also announced a new fitness wearable, new earphones and a cutting-edge tablet to take on Apple iPad Pro just like last year's MatePad Pro which we tested and found had the best display tech on any tablet you can buy. The new wearables join the company's Watch D2 which late last year became the world's first certified wrist-based ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) device. Huawei's summer 2025 wearables follow the company's long standing tradition of being compatible with both iOS and Android devices and deliver at least week-long battery life and are among the most powerful health and fitness trackers you can buy. You can make or take phone calls on them and keep in touch with your smartphone notifications as much or as little as you like. Here's everything you need to know about the four products Huawei launched for summer 2025… The latest flagship Huawei wearable comes in two sizes, 42mm and 46mm, and eight colours including two new hues, purple and sand gold. The stylish smartwatch comes with aerospace-grade titanium, a premium stainless steel casing, spherical sapphire glass, with the promise of exceptional corrosion and wear resistance. Previous Huawei watches I tested have all been super durable. Tech on board Watch 5 includes the firm's TruSense System which integrates a new multi-sensing set-up that enables users to perform health monitoring effortlessly with fingertip measurements that the company said results in more accurate and comprehensive health insights. Gesture controls on the wearable have been enhanced too. Huawei's main fitness wearable Watch Fit 4 comes in two options, one covering essential needs, with a Pro model adding offline contour maps, checkpoint navigation and a professional trail running mode. The series also introduces water sports tracking and a new air pressure sensor that the company said boosts outdoor sports data measurement accuracy. The Pro model also introduces high-end materials such as sapphire glass and aviation-grade aluminium casings with titanium alloy bezels. Featuring an ultra-thin and comfortable build, the Watch Fit 4 Pro is just 9.3mm thin. It supports advanced sports modes such as diving to a depth of up to 40 metres and pro-level golfing. Like all Huawei wearables, the new devices ensure you suffer no daily recharging anxiety as they all come with incredible stamina. This means they are perfect for travel, long training sessions or weekend getaways. The company's new open-fit earbuds Freebuds 6 are equipped with a dual-driver audio system, delivering strong, punchy bass, sweet trebles and support for high-resolution formats. Huawei said features like Stable and Clear Calls mean users will get fuss-free communication. One of the biggest selling points of the new earphones is the sleek, ergonomic droplet design that the firm said is a perfect balance between comfort and style. Hot on the heels of last year's incredible tablet is another 12.2in tablet boasting the supreme Tandem OLED PaperMatte Display to boost screen brightness while enhancing anti-glare and anti-reflection capabilities. The included Huawei Glide Keyboard delivers a PC-standard typing and carrying experience, and comes with a handy charging compartment that can store the stylus. Huawei Watch 5 is available now from the Huawei Store, with prices starting from €499.99 for both the 42mm and 46mm models. Huawei Watch Fit 4 costs €169.99 and Watch Fit 4 Pro costs €279.99. New Huawei Watch 5 lands with smarter sensors and luxury-level build
Huawei just launched a bunch of new gear across wearables, audio and tablets. We've got the new FreeBuds 6 that start a new chapter in Huawei's premium audio portfolio, the 12.2 -inch MatePad Pro with a new anti-glare display, plus the Fit 4 series and the Huawei Watch 5, which we will dive into Huawei Watch 5 is the latest in the Chinese tech giant's smartwatch lineup and it brings some cool new tech like Multi-sensing X-TAP, advanced health tracking, smarter gesture controls and that sleek design the previous Huawei Watch generations are known for. Yep, the Watch 5 sticks with the smooth, polished look but now comes in two sizes: 46mm and 42mm. It comes in several different colors, depending on the size. The smaller 42mm Watch 5 comes in: Sand Gold Beige Green White The 42mm Huawei Watch 5 in all the available colors – Sand Gold, Beige, Green and White. | Image credit – Huawei Meanwhile, the 46mm model is available in: Black Titanium Purple Titanium Silver Titanium Brown The bigger 46mm Watch 5 in the colors listed above – Black, Purple, Silver and Brown. | Image credit – Huawei As you can see by the marketing names of the color options, the bigger model features aerospace-grade titanium, which is super light and strong. Meanwhile, the smaller one uses 904L stainless steel – the same stuff luxury watches use. Both have a sapphire glass screen that is tough against scratches and straps, you can pick from titanium, fluoroelastomer or a new composite that looks and feels like leather but is waterproof, stain-resistant and odor-free. The leather-style straps come in denim beige and silk purple, so you can match your style easily. Ok, enough about the looks. This watch packs Huawei's TruSense System with the new Multi-sensing X-TAP tech powered by their Distributed Sensor Module. What does that mean? You should get fast and accurate health monitoring right from your fingertip, not just your wrist. It combines ECG, PPG and tactile sensors into one system, giving you deeper health insights way quicker than X-TAP tech also senses different pressure levels, so you can interact with the watch in new ways. Hold the X-TAP sensor for 3 seconds and you get a One-Tap Health Glance – a full health report covering 9 key metrics like heart rate variability and blood oxygen, all delivered in just a controls get a boost, too, now supporting "Double Slide" and "Double Tap," making it easier to use when you can't touch the screen much (and we all have these moments, right?). These gestures even work with some third-party apps, like voice calls on social platforms, which can be super convenient. Battery life is also solid (well, at least on paper) with the 46mm lasting up to 4.5 days and the 42mm about 3 days on Standard Mode. Switch to Battery Saver and those numbers should jump to 11 and 7 days. As for connectivity, the Watch supports eSIM, which means you can stay connected without your phone, which is perfect for busy or outdoor Huawei Watch 5 starts at £399.99 (around $530 when directly converted) and is available now through the Huawei Store. While the Chinese tech giant hasn't officially said if it is coming to the United States, the previous model showed up on Amazon and other retailers – so chances are, this one will, too. And if not, there is always the import route if you are eager to get yourself the new a heads-up, though – Huawei devices still don't support some Google apps and services and importing can come with a few trade-offs. That might include limited warranty coverage, possible feature restrictions and less consistent software support, which is not ideal. So weigh that before hitting "buy."

The 12.2-inch Huawei MatePad Pro (2025) is official with a top-shelf, anti-glare, bright display
Receive the latest mobile news Subscribe By subscribing you agree to our terms and conditions and privacy policy Let's check out the new Huawei MatePad Pro (2025) If the Huawei MatePad Pro (2025) moniker sounds familiar to you, that's because we recently reviewed a similarly sounding tablet, namely – the 13.2-inch Huawei MatePad Pro That's the question that pops up in my head immediately after every new tablet that's unveiled out because laptops (which can be super-thin and very lightweight) are still… well, laptops: they often require bulky chargers, accessories and, despite being multiple times more compact than a desktop, are still voluminous. Laptops can also be pricey, some costing north of $2, why I'm a big believer in tablets. Tablets are sleek, (generally) more compact, their keyboards (often sold separately as accessories) are lightweight, many support cellular connectivity and nowadays, pack seriously good displays and offer respectable something super convenient about grabbing a tablet and just starting to use it via its touchscreen (by hand or with the help of a stylus). In fact, 2-in-1 laptops (and especially the ones with detachable screens) have been trying for years to mimic what tablets offer in terms of 12.2-inch MatePad Pro (2025) model is here with a Tandem OLED PaperMatte term Tandem OLED indicates that the slate utilizes a dual-stack OLED structure. There are two organic light-emitting diode (OLED) layers that are placed on top of each other within the Because it allows for the overall brightness of the screen to be increased without a proportional rise in power consumption, making it more energy-efficient than traditional OLED panels. By spreading the workload across two layers, the display also experiences less wear over time, improving durability and reducing the risk of screen burn-in. This is especially beneficial for tablets used for long periods, whether for media consumption, graphic design, or multitasking. I assume you're getting the MatePad Pro to use it heavily, not lock it in a drawer, so this is great!Additionally, Tandem OLED should enhance color accuracy, contrast, and HDR performance, which, in turn, could result in more vivid and realistic visuals with deeper blacks and brighter display, on the other hand, is all about eye comfort and usability. The tablet's screen surface has a matte texture that reduces reflections and glare, closely simulating the look and feel of real paper. This makes it particularly suitable for reading, note-taking, or drawing, as it minimizes strain on the eyes over extended anti-glare coating also helps maintain visibility in bright lighting conditions, including sunlight. Unlike glossy screens, it resists fingerprints and smudges, keeping the display clear during everyday use. Keep in mind that the full potential of the screen can't be unleashed because of the matte coating's properties. Personally, I prefer an anti-reflective and glare-free screen, so I guess the MatePad Pro is fine by me, but I just had to warn new 12.2-inch tablet is coupled with the Huawei Glide Keyboard, a stylus that's housed in the charging compartment and an upgraded Huawei Notes far, there isn't a confirmation if the Glide Keyboard has been updated. When we reviewed the 13.2-inch model, we found this accessory to be a mix of strengths and drawbacks in terms of comes in two parts: a magnetic back cover with a built-in kickstand, and the keyboard itself. The back cover stands out for its practicality, offering both protection for the tablet and flexible support with its adjustable stand. It's well-designed and adds to the overall usability of the keyboard provides a solid typing experience with no major complaints. However, the touchpad fell short in our previous review. While its size is adequate, its performance is inconsistent – it occasionally lagged and lacked responsiveness. Scrolling felt sluggish, and there's no option in the settings to adjust the speed, which limits its usability and convenience. This is an area that could benefit from a software fix, so we're hoping for it for sure. Another downside is the process of attaching the keyboard, which can be slightly awkward and not as seamless as should be noted that there isn't any information about the chipset, software, or battery inside the new slate right MatePad Pro 13.2 PaperMatte was powered by the Kirin T92 chipset, an internal upgrade over the Kirin 9000S used in the smaller 12.2-inch model of last year. It came paired with 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of internal storage. The new 2025 model should be on par, on better than its larger Kirin T92 handled everyday tasks efficiently, delivering a smooth experience when navigating HarmonyOS 4.3. The system interface was fast and responsive, but in terms of raw processing power, it still lagged behind competitors like Qualcomm's Snapdragon or Apple's M-series chips. For typical tasks such as browsing, video streaming, productivity work, and digital sketching, the performance was more than adequate. However, users with demanding workloads or expectations of high-end performance may have noticed the 4.3 was the operating system in use, and as with other Huawei devices, the absence of Google services remained a consideration. While the AppGallery offered many apps, some mainstream titles still required sideloading or alternative methods. Google Workspace accounts, however, remained trickier to fully device featured a 10,100mAh battery – which should also be on the 12.2-inch version – but battery life was slightly shorter on the larger tablet, likely due to the larger display. With support for 100W fast charging and a 100W charger included in the box, the bigger tablet charged fully in about 90 minutes, making it a practical choice for heavy daily use. I expect the same for the new far as prices go, Huawei's 13.2-inch tablet can be purchased for less than £1,000 in the UK (about $1,330 when directly converted). But in reality, it was sold at £850 thanks to juicy discounts by Huawei. Similar deals would be nice for the new model as well, so keep an eye on those Amazon offers…The 12.2-inch MatePad Pro (2025) looks like a solid gadget, especially when it comes to its anti-reflective Tandem OLED display, its large battery (and superfast charging speeds!), and the fact that can easily surpass your old mid-range laptop in terms of performance and productivity.
