Penn State Behrend welcomes students for annual Math Options Career Day

Over 170 students from 26 different schools gathered at State Behrend to learn the importance of math and science. The college held their 30th annual Math Options Career Day. Seventh and eighth-grade students got to participate in hands-on workshops and a STEM activity fair. Morning lane closures planned for I-90 this week The workshops demonstrate real-life applications of book math, which organizers said is important to expose younger generations to. 'We have a certain number of English classes you have to take, a certain number of social studies classes, but they kind of have less math or science classes that are required so a lot of students will just take the minimum requirement and we know as a country that we need to boost what we are doing in the stem fields and so its important for these kids to start in high school to take those math and science courses because it's only going to benefit them late on,' said Melanie Ford, director of Youth Eduction Outreach at Penn State Behrend.
