Trois-Rivières car dealership workers win $20M lottery jackpot, show up for work on time
News
A group of 15 employees of a Trois-Rivières car dealership became Quebec's latest millionaires after they won the $20-million Lotto-Max on June 3.
Loto-Québec said in a statement that each of the workers was handed a cheque for more than $1.3 million, while the Marché Express outlet that sold the winning ticket was paid a commission of $200,000 — one per cent of the jackpot total.
Christian Dessureault, the employee who usually buys the group's ticket, discovered the windfall around 6:30 a.m. on June 3 and quickly informed his colleagues.
While they were overwhelmed by the news, Mathieu Ouellet, a member of the group and business manager of the auto dealership, said that everyone nevertheless showed up for work on time — before hugging each other in celebration.
That said, each member of the group intends to enjoy an early retirement, with plans that range from buying a home, taking to the road in a recreational vehicle, trading in their 30-year-old pickup for a new model and buying a country home in the region.
Loto-Québec jackpots have created close to 60 new millionaires in Quebec since the beginning of the year. The total jackpot for this Friday's Lotto-Max draw is $20 million.
