Dolphins signing four-time Pro Bowler Matthew Judon to one-year deal

Matthew Judon will be a member of the Dolphins this season after he signed a one-year deal Monday. The deal is worth up to $6 million, according to NFL Network, and occurred after he visited the organization on Monday. The four-time Pro Bowler spent last season with the Falcons after he was traded by the Patriots for a third-round pick. Advertisement Matt Judon is signing with the Dolphins. Getty Images He went on to appear in 17 games, recording 41 tackles, 5.5 sacks and a career-high five passes defended. Judon, 33, also recorded his first career interception last season. He had spent five seasons with the Ravens, who selected him in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft and joined the Patriots organization in 2021 after he signed a four-year, $56 million deal. Judon is joining a Miami squad that has defensive stars like Bradley Chubb, Jaelan Phillips and Chop Robinson, who will look to make life miserable for the Jets in the AFC East. While the trio had dealt with injury issues in the past, Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel told reporters that there shouldn't be anyone thinking Judon's visit has anything to do with injuries. The former Patriot will see his new team early in the season when the Dolphins host New England in Week 2, and he'll see the Falcons in Week 8 in Atlanta.

Pass Rusher Matt Judon No Longer Entertains a Free Agent Tag As the Miami Dolphins Near a Deal

Matt Judon visits the Miami Dolphins camp: Image via X The Miami Dolphins don't seem to be satisfied with their edge defenders' lineup. Even if they have one of the strongest weapons under their belt, they are certainly looking for more. Well, not just anyone, they look keen to bring in a veteran linebacker from their divisional rival. The star in question is none other than Matt Judon, who has been there as the most valuable free agent available in the NFL deep after scoring a below-average season stat for the Atlanta Falcons last year. Matt Judon seems to pen a contract with the Dolphins Judon, 33, was nowhere near his best for the past couple of years. He suffered a grave lower biceps injury during week 4 of the 2023 season. After some checkups and treatments, he bounced back but couldn't retain the standard. For the first two weeks (in 2024), he mounted 1.5 sacks, 12 tackles, two quarterback hits, and two tackles. In week 15, he scored his lowest, 42% of the defensive snaps. For obvious reasons, the Falcons moved on without signing a contract. But it looks like 2025 will be another game-changer for the superstar pass rusher. He isn't washed up after all. Dolphins see right through the layers and seem to act on it pretty soon. NFL insider Jordan Schultz wrote on X, 'Sources: The #Dolphins will host 4x Pro Bowl OLB Matthew Judon on a visit tomorrow. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like She Was Beautiful, Now Its Hard To Look At Her Crowdy Fan Undo 'Miami has been exploring pass-rush options, and Judon — who had 5.5 sacks last season in Atlanta — brings 72 career sacks to the table.' Schultz added that Judon will visit on Monday and ''both parties are motivated to reach a deal.'' Judon might not have an immediate record worthy of a promise, but his history with the Patriots speaks volumes. He clinched two of his Pro Bowl nods and also finished ninth in the NFL AP Defensive Player of the Year voting in 2022. He can still be a depth piece for the Super Bowl contender. But do the Patriots have any chance of getting him further? Will Matt Judon be back with the Patriots? Well, the former New England Patriots linebacker Matthew Judon is desperate to get his feet back in the business. He doesn't at all want his fans to forget his classics. He recently posted a clip of his shots during his tenure with the Patriots. In his first year with the Pats, Judon racked up 60 tackles, one fumble recovery, and 12.5 sacks. He broke his own records in 2022 with a career-high 15.5 sacks, two forced fumbles (recovering one), and 60 total tackles. Does he want these golden days back? Not specified, but Judon's caption in his IG story clearly depicts that his heart is yearning to don those 'red sleeves' again. The four-time Pro Bowler might just have a momentary nostalgia drifting through his mind, but for fans, it's nothing less than a tease to get back in Foxborough. However, in reality, it looks far-fetched in all likelihood. Ravens Emerge As 'Makes Sense' Suitor for Pro Bowler

Ravens Emerge As 'Makes Sense' Suitor for Pro Bowler originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Baltimore Ravens have Pro Bowl talent up and down the roster. The offense is amongst the most complete and versatile in the NFL, and the defense features impact players on all three levels. Advertisement Zach Orr's defense underwent some growing pains in his first year as coordinator, but the team returns a lot of promise for this season, with hopes a full year of experience in his system will result in more production in 2025. One area of the defense that might raise a sense of urgency is the pass rush. Veteran Kyle Van Noy and Odafe Oweh - two double-digit sack-getters - are on expiring contracts. Baltimore drafted college football's sack champion in Mike Green, but you can never go wrong with adding more experience to the depth chart to bring along a highly-touted rookie. Trenton Simpson underwhelmed last season, so a veteran linebacker presence could offer him some mentorship, too, and be an insurance plan if Simpson continues to struggle. Advertisement Frankly, at a spot like pass rusher, you can always be happy with more. Especially on a team with Super Bowl aspirations like the Ravens. One name on the free agency market is a familiar one for Ravens fans: outside linebacker Matt Judon. A free agency contract to Judon, who was in Baltimore from 2016-2020, may not threaten a starting spot, but could offer more depth and a chance at spotty production to aid the starters with a breather. As Last Word On Sports writes, "the linebacker will sign at least with a contender, as he wants to head to a team that 'makes sense.' Baltimore fits that mold, and it's leg-up in familiarity could help its chances in joining the bidding war for the four-time Pro Bowler. Advertisement "... No one should rule out the idea of a reunion, as Judon isn't shutting the door on that," Writer Anthony Palacios said. "Between Odafe Oweh, Kyle Van Noy, Roquan Smith and Trenton Simpson, Judon could complete this package to add more firepower." He's coming off a down season in 2024, but Judon may still have the physical attributes to compete at a high level. He posted an impressive 15.5 sack total as recent as 2022 with the New England Patriots. Last season on the Atlanta Falcons, he totaled 5.5 sacks, 41 tackles, seven tackles for loss and the first interception of his nine-year career - it was returned for a touchdown. His best years may be behind him, but on a cheap homecoming deal, Judon could provide much-needed pass rush depth to the team that drafted him almost a decade ago in the Ravens.
