MLC 2025: San Francisco Unicorns sign New Zealand wicketkeeper Tim Seifert
San Francisco: San Francisco Unicorns have added New Zealand wicketkeeper-batter Tim Seifert to their roster for the 2025 Major League Cricket season. Seifert joins the Unicorns with a wealth of top-level experience in international cricket with 66 T20I caps and over 250 franchise appearances to his name with teams including the Kolkata Knight Riders, Melbourne Renegades, and Northern Districts in his native New Zealand. Signed for his dual skills with the bat and behind the stumps, Seifert averages over 28 on the international T20 stage with a strike rate of 142, and his signing follows his recent star performance in New Zealand's T20 series against Pakistan, where he was top scorer, smashing 249 runs at an average of 62 while opening the batting with fellow Unicorns' star Finn Allen. Known for his 360 ability with the bat, Seifert will be tasked with getting the Unicorns off to fast starts when batting, assisting fellow destructive batters such as Jake Fraser-McGurk and Matt Short, while also assisting captain and former NZ international Corey Anderson with strategy in the field. 'I've been following MLC from afar over the last couple of seasons, particularly keeping a close eye on some of the Kiwi contingent. I can't wait to get started this summer, and add some more firepower with a team that is already stacked with talent and in a great position to take things one step further than last year," Seifert said in a statement. 'The Unicorns are building something big in the Bay Area under the leadership of Shane Watson and the ambitious owners, and with the Oakland Coliseum now set to play a key part as a home fortress, this is an opportunity I had to take.' Shane Watson, head coach of the San Francisco Unicorns, said, 'We look for both quality cricketers and quality personalities when bringing players into the Unicorns fold, and Tim definitely checks both those boxes. 'His skills with the gloves will also be a major asset this year, especially with the new wickets in Oakland and Fort Lauderdale offering something of an unknown for spin bowling. He's also coming in with impressive form with the bat, adding to an already dominant top order alongside Finn (Allen), Shorty (Matt Short), and Jake (Fraser-McGurk).'

Islamabad United sign Kyle Mayers as van der Dussen's replacement for PSL 10
Islamabad United has signed West Indies all-rounder Kyle Mayers as a replacement for the remainder of the 10th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), following the unavailability of South Africa's Rassie van der Dussen and Australia's Matt Short. United had drafted the South African's batter in Platinam category. However, van der Dussen could not join the franchise due to personal reasons. Australia's Alex Carey was announced as his initial replacement, but he could not join either due to domestic commitments in Australia. His team has qualified for the final of the ongoing domestic season, making his participation in PSL 10 unfeasible. The franchise announced on Kyle Mayers will join Islamabad as replacement player as both Matt Short and Rassie van der Dussen are ruled out,' the franchise said in a statement. Islamabad United target back-to-back PSL titles with proven formula 'Rassie van der Dussen won't be able to join us this season due to personal reasons. Islamabad United stands firmly with Rassie van der Dussen during this difficult time,' the franchise said. 'After discussions with Rassie, both parties have mutually agreed that he will not be participating in this season. We extend our full support to him and his family,' it added. With both Rassie van der Dussen and Matt Short ruled out of the tournament, Islamabad United has decided to bring in one overseas replacement.

The event celebrates automotive design, engineering and culture. Short doubtful for Australia's Champions Trophy semi
March 1 (Reuters) - Australia's Matt Short looks set to miss the Champions Trophy semi-finals after suffering a thigh injury during Friday's abandoned Group B match against Afghanistan in Lahore. Skipper Steve Smith said the opener, who suffered the quad injury while fielding but struggled on to make 20 runs from 15 balls before the game was washed out, was unlikely to be fit to face India or New Zealand on Tuesday or Wednesday. "I think he'll be struggling," Smith said. "I think we saw tonight he wasn't moving very well. I think it's probably going to be too quick between games for him to recover." Jake Fraser-McGurk would offer similar skills as a replacement for Short at the top of the batting order, while young spin-bowling all-rounder Cooper Connolly is Australia's travelling reserve. "We've got a few guys there to come in to fill a job," Smith added. A second abandoned game from three group matches assured Australia of a spot in the semi-finals but they will not know their opposition nor the venue for the match until after India face New Zealand in Dubai on Sunday.

Sri Lanka choose to bat in ODI a
Sri Lanka have won the toss and will bat against Australia in the first game of a two-match one-day series at Colombo's Premadasa Stadium. A severely weakened Australia have named Matt Short and Jake Fraser-McGurk to open the batting with Cooper Connolly at No.3. Marnus Labuschagne has been named at No.5 behind acting captain Steve Smith. Alex Carey is the wicket-keeper as Josh Inglis continues to rest from back spasms which hindered him during the second Test. A second string pace attack of Sean Abbott, Nathan Ellis and Spencer Johnson are covering for captain Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Mitchell Starc. Starc flew home after the recent second Test for personal reasons. Cummins (ankle and paternity leave), Hazlewood (calf injury) and Starc will also miss the rapidly approaching Champions Trophy along with Mitchell Marsh (back) and the now retired Marcus Stoinis.
