The event celebrates automotive design, engineering and culture.
The 2025 classes are:

■ American Splendor: Open-bodied Full Classics
■ European Luxury: Full Classic European automobiles
■ Studebaker Sedans: Closed-bodied four-door Studebakers of all years
■ Kickin' Brass: Brass-era automobiles
■ The Roaring '20s: - An open class for popular-priced 1920-1929 automobiles
■ Carrozeria Ghia: Ghia-bodied automobiles
■ Think Small: '60s Compacts
■ Think Smaller: Microcars
■ The Silent Knights: Knight sleeve-valve engined automobiles
Awards will be presented in all classes, as well as Best of Show and other special awards of distinction. The Concours at Copshaholm's Chief Judge is automotive scholar and historian Matt Short. Judging will be French Traditional. The awards ceremony will be narrated by automotive historian and raconteur Bill Rothermel.
The Concours takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 12 at Copshaholm, 808 W. Washington St.
The deadline to apply is March 15.

Lower US tariffs on EU autos are on hold for now
The lower US tariffs on cars imported from the EU will have to wait, at least for now. The EU-US trade agreement is poised to cut the US import tax on cars from the EU from 27.5% to 15%. However, details released Thursday reveal that the lower rate won't take effect until the EU takes separate action to reduce its own tariffs on US goods. 'These tariff reductions are expected to be effective from the first day of the same month in which the European Union's legislative proposal is introduced,' said the latest specifics of the trade agreement released by both the EU and US. This is another example of the ever-changing trade rules this year between the United States and its major trading partners which will impose additional costs on American businesses that import goods and likely eventually raise costs for consumers. The Trump administration announced tariffs of at least 25% on imported vehicles and parts earlier this year. Since then, the US has announced trade agreements with many countries that export cars to United States, expect two of the largest: Mexico and Canada. For example, Germany – the EU country with the most auto exports to the United States – shipped 431,000 vehicles to America last year, according to S&P Global Mobility. But that is only about 3% of the US market, placing it a distant fifth behind Mexico, South Korea, Japan and Canada. US automakers have objected strongly to lowering tariffs on most overseas imports while maintaining higher rates on cars and parts from Canada and Mexico. That's because previous trade deals has allowed the auto industry for decades to operate as if North America was a single market, freely moving parts and vehicles across the borders. Automakers point out that cars assembled in Mexico and Canada include a significant amount of parts produced at US plants. Despite fears, auto tariffs have not significantly raised prices for American car buyers so far this year. Data from car buying site Edmunds shows that the average car price in July was up less than 2% from before the tariffs took effect in March, or a year ago. That's because automakers have, so far, been willing to assume the higher cost of building and importing vehicles instead of raising prices. The concern is that higher prices will put vehicles out of the reach for many customers, cutting into demand. Tesla Stock (TSLA) Drops as Carmakers Blasted For Waving the White Flag to China in the U.K.

According to a report in The Daily Telegraph, affordable Chinese EVs are set to dominate the U.K.'s roads as Western makers turn to more luxury models. Chinese Surge Figures from the FIA Foundation have revealed that 10% of new cars sold in the U.K. already come from China, but that number is set to surge. 'China, which now accounts for 27% of global passenger car sales, has secured a competitive edge in manufacturing smaller EVs, with strengths across key aspects of EV production, including battery supply chains, manufacturing efficiency and software,' it said in a report. 'It means China has evolved from a net importer of passenger cars before 2020 to the world's largest net exporter.' European and UK carmakers have largely ceded the affordable car market to the Chinese and are instead focused on upmarket SUVs and other large cars, the report claimed. As an example, Range Rover is planning a new all-electric model in 2026 with starting prices predicted around £130,000 to £150,000. This compares with the £17,000 BYD (BYDDY) Dolphin or the £16,000 MG3. Tesla Reacts The article said that there are over 130 EV models available in the U.K. A third of these are priced under £30,000, with more set to come. It means increasing pressure for Tesla, which is trying its best to compete with its Chinese rivals on price. It was recently forced to offer up to a 40% discount to its EV leasing companies in the U.K. to counter a slump in sales. British motorists can lease a Tesla EV for just over half of what they paid last year. Two main reasons cited for this discount are the sales slump and a lack of storage space caused by unsold Tesla EVs in the U.K. In July, Tesla's U.K. sales plunged nearly 60%. Its EV market share dropped to 0.7% in July, while BYD's grew to 2.3% of all new EV registrations in the U.K. As one can see below, the BYD share price has also been in the fast lane this year, compared with Tesla. Aside from question marks over the design and performance of its models, Tesla has also faced a huge hit to its brand reputation this year given chief executive Elon Musk's high-profile flirtation with politics.
