NEW YORK — The Chicago White Sox traded Matt Thaiss to Tampa Bay and reinstated fellow catcher Korey Lee from the 10-day injured list on Tuesday. Chicago received minor league outfielder Dru Baker from Tampa Bay for the 30-year-old Thaiss, who hit .212 with a homer and eight RBIs in 35 games with the White Sox. He was acquired from the crosstown Cubs in December.

Chicago received minor league outfielder Dru Baker from Tampa Bay for the 30-year-old Thaiss, who hit .212 with a homer and eight RBIs in 35 games with the White Sox. He was acquired from the crosstown Cubs in December. Advertisement The rebuilding White Sox have a strong catching pipeline, leaving no room for Thaiss. Edgar Quero is off to an encouraging start after making his major league debut on April 17. Kyle Teel, who was acquired in the Garrett Crochet trade in December, is at Triple-A Charlotte. Lee, 26, had been sidelined by a sprained left ankle. He is batting .333 (5 for 15) in nine games with Chicago this year. Baker, 25, was a fourth-round selection in the 2021 amateur draft out of Texas Tech. He has been on the seven-day injured list since April 22 with a left adductor strain. May 27 - The Tampa Bay Rays acquired veteran catcher Matt Thaiss from the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday for minor league outfielder Dru Baker. Thiass, 30, batted .212 (18-for-85) with one homer and eight RBIs in 35 games for the White Sox this season. He had a .294 slugging percentage in his first campaign with Chicago. Thaiss spent his first six seasons with the Los Angeles Angels. He has a .209 career batting average with 23 homers and 87 RBIs in 280 games. Baker, 25, was batting .245 with one homer and three RBIs in 17 games for Triple-A Durham. He sustained an adductor injury more than a month ago and has been on the injured list since April 22. He also played in six games at the Rookie level this season and went 1-for-15. Last season, Baker stole 42 bases for Double-A Montgomery and batted .288 with no homers and 44 RBIs. Chicago activated catcher Korey Lee (ankle) from the 10-day injured list prior to Tuesday's game against the New York Mets. Lee last played on April 9 when he sprained his left ankle against the Cleveland Guardians. Lee, 26, went 5-for-15 (.333) with one RBI in nine games before his injury. Last season, Lee batted .210 with 12 homers and 37 RBIs in 125 games for Chicago. The White Sox rebounded from getting swept in four games at Kansas City to win their third series of the season. Advertisement Andrew Vaughn hit an RBI single in the third inning for the White Sox. Miami's Xavier Edwards answered with a single that scored Matt Mervis to make it 1-1 in the fourth. Edwards finished with two hits and a stolen base. Mike Vasil (2-1) pitched three innings of relief, giving up a run on three hits, and Cam Booser worked the ninth for his first save of the season. Sandy Alcantara (2-5) gave up four runs on seven hits with three walks and eight strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings. Chase Meidroth went 2 for 4 with a double for Chicago. Key moment Matt Thaiss led off the sixth with a single and moved to third on a one-out single by Joshua Palacios.
