Supermodel Claudia Schiffer's film-maker husband in talks to invest in Premier League club
The husband of supermodel Claudia Schiffer is in talks to invest in a Premier League club. The producer and director married Schiffer in 2002, and has been involved in films such as Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels - which was brought to life by Guy Ritchie and featured former footballer Vinnie Jones. Schiffer was seen at Brentford 's game against Nottingham Forest in December and has four children with Matthew Vaughn - two sons and two daughters - and the duo have resided at Coldham Hall, Stanningfield, Suffolk, since 2002. Now, reports suggest that Vaughn is in talks to buy a minority stake in Premier League side Brentford alongside South African businessman Gary Lubner. According to The Sun, reports suggest that Bees owner Matthew Benham could be open to selling some of his shares in the London-based club. It is estimated that he would be willing to sell up to 20 per cent. He is thought to value the club at £400million and would sell shares for between £40m and £80mm, depending on how many were sold. Under Benham, Brentford have climbed from League one to the Premier League, as well as moved stadiums since he took over in 2014. It is thought, though, that acknowledges that outside investment is necessary if the club are to continue progressing. The production company that Vaughn owns alongside his wife announced a profit of £77.4m in its latest accounts. He is also the former CEO of Belron - the owners of Autoglass - and has been a major donor to the Labour party in recent times, having reportedly donated £4.5m in 2023 alone. German Schiffer, meanwhile, rose to fame in the 1990s when she attained supermodel status. Her career started when she met Michel Levaton, the CEO of Metropolitan Models, aged 17 in a Dusseldorf nightclub. In her personal life, she was previously engaged to American magician David Copperfield, with their relationship ending in 1999. Brentford, meanwhile, lost manager Thomas Frank to Tottenham this summer, with star man Bryan Mbeumo of serious interest to Manchester United.

Claudia Schiffer's film-maker husband in talks to buy stake in Brentford after supermodel seen at Premier League game
CLAUDIA SCHIFFER'S film-maker husband is in talks to invest in Brentford. Matthew Vaughn, 54, is best known for producing Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels - the gangland caper that featured former footballer Vinnie Jones. 5 The British producer and director married former supermodel Schiffer in 2002. Schiffer, 54, was spotted in the posh seats at the Gtech Community Stadium alongside their two daughters for Brentford's home defeat to Nottingham Forest in December 2024. Now Vaughn is said to be working with South African businessman Gary Lubner on buying a minority stake in the Bees. Brentford declined to comment. But reports claim owner Matthew Benham would be willing to sell between ten and 20 per cent of his shares for £40million to £80m, valuing the club at £400m. Gambling and statistics mogul Benham has spent more than £100m of his own money transforming Brentford. The Bees have climbed from League One to the top half of the Premier League and opened a new stadium since he took full control of the club in 2014. But Benham is understood to recognise that outside investment will be necessary if Brentford are to continue to thrive and develop. The Bees have already seen boss Thomas Frank leave for Tottenham and are set to lose another star player, Bryan Mbeumo, this summer. Extra cash would give them a better chance of competing with rivals on wages and transfer fees. Why Thomas Frank is the PERFECT manager for Tottenham Vaughn, who also directed Layer Cake and X Men: First Class, would bring some showbiz glamour to Brentford - whose current shirt sponsor is Hollywoodbet. He is also rich. The production company he co-owns with Schiffer, Marv Studios, revealed a profit of £77.4m in its last accounts. But Lubner is a more wealthy and controversial figure. He is the former CEO of Belron, the owners of Autoglass, and is one of the biggest donors to the Labour Party during the leadership of Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer. In 2023 alone, Lubner contributed more than £4.5m to Labour coffers. 5 5

Brentford in advanced talks with investors over minority sale
Brentford are in advanced talks with English filmmaker Matthew Vaughn and South African businessman Gary Lubner over the sale of a minority stake in the club, per The Athletic. The Bees' owner Matthew Benham has been seeking fresh investment to help fund the Premier League side for several years. Advertisement In February last year, the 57-year-old hired multinational private and merchant bank Rothschild to oversee the potential sale of a stake in the West London club. Now they are closing in on an agreement with Vaughn and Lubner, with Benham interested in selling 10-20 per cent of his shares at a total valuation of around £400 million for Brentford. The club plan to invest this money in helping them be more aggressive in the transfer market, fund further additions to Best Intentions' multi-club group and boost their commercial department. Benham initially provided interest-free loans to his boyhood football club before taking full control in 2012. Advertisement The British businessman has helped transform the fortunes of Brentford, pouring more than £100m of his own wealth into the team since 2005. They were competing in League One when Benham first became the owner, but led them to Premier League promotion in 2021. He has overseen the Bees' move to the Gtech Community Stadium and established them in the English top-flight under manager Thomas Frank, who recently left to join Tottenham Hotspur. With external investment, Brentford want to consistently challenge for a place in the top 10 and European qualification.

Brentford in advanced talks with filmmaker Matthew Vaughn and businessman Gary Lubner over minority investment
Brentford are in advanced talks with UK-based South African businessman Gary Lubner and English filmmaker Matthew Vaughn about a minority investment in the Premier League club. Lubner is the former chief executive of Belron, the parent company of windscreen repair firm Autoglass, and founder of children's charity This Day. Advertisement The 66-year-old came to London to study in the mid-1980s and has become a major donor to the Labour Party, having given them almost £9million in recent years. Vaughn, on the other hand, has helped to raise money for the Conservative Party but is far better known as the producer of British ganger film Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, the director of Layer Cake and X Men: First Class and the co-creator of the Kingsman franchise. The 54-year-old Londoner has also been married to German supermodel Claudia Schiffer since 2002. Brentford declined when asked for comment by The Athletic but owner Matthew Benham has been looking for partners to help fund the west London club for several years, having poured more than £100million of his own wealth into his boyhood team since 2005. Initially, he provided that support in the form of interest-free loans but the club's previous owners, the Bees United supporters' trust, voted to give him full control in 2012. Since then, they have climbed from the third tier to the top flight, moved into a new stadium in 2020 and are now looking forward to their fifth straight season in the Premier League. Earlier this year, Benham, a former banker who founded statistical research firm Smartodds and owns betting exchange Matchbook, moved his Brentford shares into a new holding company called Best Intentions Analytics. Bees United's golden share in Brentford was converted into a protective rights deed that gives them a seat on the board and the right to veto the sale of the GTech Community Stadium. Benham only wants to sell 10-20 per cent of his shares at a total valuation for Brentford of around £400million. This money will be invested in the club to help them be more aggressive in the transfer market, fund further additions to Best Intentions' multi-club group and boost their commercial department. Advertisement Having previously owned Danish side Midtjylland from 2014 to 2023, Benham bought Spanish third-tier side Merida AD in April. The news of fresh investment is likely to be welcomed by supporters as the club have just seen their long-standing manager Thomas Frank leave to join Tottenham Hotspur and look likely to lose at least one of their best players to rival clubs, as Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa are men in demand. By Jay Harris Brentford owner Matthew Benham has been open to selling a stake in the club for a few years. In 2017, when they were still in the Championship, representatives of the former Real Madrid, Barcelona, Inter Milan and Brazil striker Ronaldo approached Brentford about buying the club. A deal never came close though, as the two parties were way apart in their valuation. In December 2023, in response to fresh reports Benham could sell a portion of Brentford, a club spokesperson said: 'It is only natural, and perhaps even essential, for us to carefully explore what new investment could potentially mean for the future of Brentford FC. 'We must not stand still and we remain absolutely determined to safeguard the long term future of Brentford FC and to remain competitive in the world's most challenging and successful league.' Brentford have recorded two top-half finishes in four seasons since they were promoted to the top-flight after winning the Championship play-off final in May 2021. They probably require external investment to help them push on and consistently challenge for a place in the top 10 and European qualification. They have lost one of their best players every summer since they were promoted to the Premier League. In 2022, Christian Eriksen joined Manchester United, a year later David Raya moved to Arsenal and 12 months ago Ivan Toney departed for the Saudi Pro League. Advertisement There is a high chance Bryan Mbeumo will leave in this window and he favours a move to Manchester United. Earlier this month, Thomas Frank left after nearly seven years in charge to become Tottenham Hotspur's new head coach. External investment might help Brentford to pay better wages and retain their best talent. Brentford have explored different ways to continue evolving. They announced a strategic partnership with Portuguese top-flight side Gil Vicente in March. A month later, Benham bought Spanish third-tier side Merida AD. Benham was previously the majority shareholder of Danish side Midtjylland between 2014 and 2023, during which time they won the title for the first time in their history.
