Andy Flower, Dinesh Karthik surround Virat Kohli; all three have animated chat after PBKS bowlers leave him gasping
Virat Kohli has featured in IPL finals before, and never has he had the highest score for his side as the Royal Challengers Bengaluru lost on all occasions. On Tuesday, as the RCB returned to the final for the first time in nine years, taking on the Punjab Kings, Kohli showed considerable signs of struggle, leaving head coach Andy Flower concerned. Kohli, who has usually been an aggressor in the powerplay since being promoted to the opening spot in the IPL, dropped anchor in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. He managed just 13 runs off 10 balls in the powerplay, comprising a solitary boundary as the RCB scored 55 for one, riding on a fiery 9-ball 19 from Phil Salt, before Mayank Agarwal scored 24 off 17. Over the next three overs, as RCB also lost Mayank, Kohli managed only eight more runs in as many balls. The sight left Flower and team mentor Dinesh Karthik worried as he was spotted having an animated chat with Kohli during the strategic break. Punjab did their homework for the match against Bengaluru, which was evident from how they managed to keep their opponent silent. There were 12 balls that went without a boundary during the powerplay, and it resulted in Mayank Agarwal falling to Yuzvendra Chahal on the second ball in the seventh over. Even Kohli, who loves to play the cover drive, looked out of sorts against the new ball. The key to PBKS' bowling, especially for the quicks, was going for the good length area. Off the 15 such deliveries bowled, they conceded only 17 runs for a wicket, while the 18 shorter deliveries were smashed for 31 runs. Earlier, PBKS won the toss and captain Shreyas Iyer opted to bowl first unbder the cloudy Ahmedabad skies. Both teams made no changes to their playing XI for the final.

Robin Uthappa hails Jitesh-Mayank duo after RCB pull off historic chase in Lucknow
New Delhi [India], May 28 (ANI): In one of the most memorable finishes of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) scripted history by pulling off the third-highest successful run chase in the tournament's history, overhauling a daunting 228-run target against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) with eight balls to spare. The unbeaten 107-run stand between captain Jitesh Sharma and opener Mayank Agarwal proved to be the defining partnership in RCB's six-wicket triumph, the highest-ever total chased at Lucknow. Jitesh led from the front with a blistering 85 not out off just 33 deliveries, peppered with eight boundaries and six towering sixes. On the other end, Mayank played the perfect foil, finishing unbeaten on 41 from 23 balls, striking five boundaries and keeping the pressure on the LSG bowlers. While speaking on JioHotstar after the match, former India cricketer and JioStar expert Robin Uthappa praised the duo's match-winning effort and underlined the importance of momentum heading into the business end of the season. 'It's a great victory for RCB. There's a lot of momentum that's going to come from this win for RCB. But the job's not done yet. One of the things RCB needs to do right now is respect the momentum they've just created from that scintillating, mind-boggling knock from their captain, Jitesh Sharma,' Uthappa said. He was full of praise for Jitesh's captain's knock, calling it a display of character and resolve. 'I thought that was an incredible knock -- full of determination and grit, which resulted in glory,' he said. However, Uthappa was quick to highlight Mayank Agarwal's invaluable contribution at the other end. 'Mayank Agarwal's knock was phenomenal as well. He played the perfect support role with Jitesh and kept finding the boundaries. He may not get a lot of attention, but that inning was critical for RCB's victory. No amount of praise is enough for that kind of contribution,' he added. This chase also marked only the third time RCB have successfully chased a 200-plus total in IPL history. With this statement win, they sealed a top-two finish in the league stage, as they will have two opportunities to reach the final. (ANI)

"What Jitesh did was spectacular": Mayank Agarwal hails RCB's stand- in skipper innings against LSG
Lucknow, (Uttar Pradesh) [India], May 28 (ANI): Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) batter, Mayank Agarwal, spoke about how important it was to get a good start in the power play when chasing a big target. He highlighted the crucial role of Phil Salt and Virat Kohli in providing that start, not just in this game but also in the previous one. Stand-in RCB captain Jitesh Sharma arguably played the knock of his life and lifted Royal Challengers Bengaluru to a handsome victory as they overcame Lucknow Super Giants with a six-wicket triumph in the final group stage game of the 18th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). 'The way we started in the power play really gave us the belief in the dugout. When you're chasing a big target like that, getting a good start is crucial, and Phil and Virat have done just that, and not in this game. They did that in the last game as well. So we had to stay calm and calculate our way in between and then finish strong, and like everybody saw, Jitesh did what he did was spectacular,' Mayank Agarwal said in the post-match press conference. Kohli and Salt gave RCB a flying start while chasing a huge target of 228. The duo added 61 runs in just 34 balls before Akash Maharaj Singh forced the breakthrough by removing Salt on 30(19) in the final over of the powerplay. Agarwal also praised the RCB bowlers. He said,' I think it was a very important game for us, you know, and it was a good wicket, but I thought our bowlers bowled well. We could have been a little luckier. We would have had a few edges come our way.' Punjab stayed at the top of the standings, while RCB moved to the second spot with two more points. RCB have booked a date with Punjab Kings in Qualifier 1 on Thursday, while Gujarat Titans, who slipped to third, will face Mumbai Indians in the Eliminator on Friday. Bengaluru pulled off the third-highest successful run chase in the tournament's history, courtesy of an unbeaten 107-run partnership between Mayank Agarwal and Jitesh Sharma. Notably, this was just the third time RCB chased down a 200-plus run target. RCB's six-wicket triumph is the highest total chased in Lucknow. (ANI)
