Woman hospitalized following alleged assault, Barrie police investigating

A woman was taken to hospital Tuesday night following a reported assault in the Barrie area that resulted in a wound.
Police were called to Mayfair Drive, near Ardagh Road, just before 9:30 p.m., after receiving reports that a woman had been allegedly assaulted by an unknown man while walking along the sidewalk.
Barrie Police responded with members of their Tactical Support Unit, Canine Unit, Forensic Investigations, and front-line patrol officers.
The suspect is described as a white man in his early 20s, roughly six feet tall. He was last seen wearing a black hoodie, black pants, dark shoes, and a blue face mask.
The Criminal Investigations Unit is leading the ongoing investigation.
A spokesperson for Barrie Police told CTV News that officers remain in the area Wednesday morning.
