Syria-Iraq's Al-Bukamal crossing open 24/7
Shafaq News – Damascus / Baghdad The Al-Bukamal (Al-Qaim) border crossing between Syria and Iraq remains open and operates 24 hours a day, Syrian authorities confirmed Monday, reporting uninterrupted movement of travelers and goods. Speaking to Shafaq News, Mazen Alloush, director of public relations at the Syrian Border Crossings Authority, confirmed the ongoing coordination with Iraqi counterparts to maintain smooth passage on both sides of the border. The Iraqi Interior Ministry also dismissed reports of restrictions on Syrian citizens entering Iraq during the Arbaeen pilgrimage, clarifying that all crossings continue under existing regulations without new limitations. Earlier in June, the Syrian General Authority for Land and Sea Crossings announced the reopening of the al-Bukamal crossing to passenger and freight traffic. The crossing had been closed since December 2024 amid Syria's political upheaval, including the fall of President Bashar al-Assad's regime and the withdrawal of Syrian forces from the area. Highly regarded as a strategic segment of the land route for the 'Axis of Resistance,' connecting Iran, Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon, the crossing has seen repeated airstrikes and security incidents, often attributed to tensions involving regional and international armed groups.

Syria Enforces New Freight Ban on Egyptian and Saudi Vehicles
DAMUSCUS, July 15: The Syrian government has announced a ban on trucks originating from Egypt and Saudi Arabia from entering Syrian territory, citing the need to support local transport workers and enforce reciprocal trade practices. The decision, which will take effect on Sunday, July 20, was confirmed by Mazen Alloush, Director of Public Relations at the General Authority for Land and Sea Ports. Speaking to the official Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), Alloush stated that the move comes in response to longstanding demands by Syrian truck and refrigerated transport drivers who have called for more equitable treatment and improved conditions within the land transport sector. According to Alloush, trucks from Egypt and Saudi Arabia will no longer be allowed to cross into Syrian territory and will be required to complete cargo transfer operations at the border ports through which goods enter the country. The measure, he added, is part of a broader effort to respond to the continued restrictions placed on Syrian trucks by Egypt and Saudi Arabia. 'This ban comes in light of the ongoing prohibition against Syrian trucks entering those two countries, which contravenes the principle of reciprocity in trade and land transport,' Alloush said. He stressed that the Ports Authority remains committed to protecting the rights of workers in Syria's transport sector and will continue to work in coordination with relevant agencies to ensure fairness and equal treatment for Syrian freight operators.

Syria Temporarily Closes Border Crossing with Turkey
Israa Farhan Syria has temporarily closed the Kasab border crossing with Turkey due to rapidly spreading wildfires in the coastal mountain ranges that have reached dangerously close to the frontier. The announcement was made on Saturday by Mazen Alloush, Director of Public Relations at the General Authority of Syrian Land and Sea Ports, who confirmed the closure via a statement on X. He stated that Turkish authorities decided as a precautionary measure in response to the advancing fires in the Latakia countryside. Firefighting and civil defense teams in Syria are actively engaged on three major fronts to contain the blaze: Burj Zahia, the forests of al-Furunluq, and the area surrounding Nab' al-Mur near the town of Kasab. These regions are particularly difficult to access due to dense forestation, rugged terrain, and the presence of landmines and wartime remnants. According to the Syrian Civil Defense, operations have been significantly hindered by strong winds, which have caused the flames to reignite and leap beyond established firebreaks. The situation is further complicated by the hazardous topography and the presence of unexploded ordnance. The civil defense unit reported that wind gusts on Friday led to the rapid expansion of the fire, particularly in the Nab' al-Mur sector, which remains one of the most challenging areas for containment efforts. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War News "Tensions Escalate: Iran Probes Allegations of Indian Tech Collaboration with Israeli Intelligence" News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Arts & Culture Hawass Foundation Launches 1st Course to Teach Ancient Egyptian Language Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream

Syria shuts border crossing as Latakia wildfires spread
Shafaq News – Latakia Syria closed the Kasab border crossing with Turkiye on Saturday after wildfires sweeping through Latakia's coastal mountains neared the frontier, a Syrian border official said. On X, Mazen Alloush, Director of Public Relations at the General Authority for Border and Maritime Crossings, clarified that the closure is 'temporary' due to the advancing fires. — مازن علوش (@mazen_alloush) July 12, 2025 Meanwhile, Syria's Ministry of Agriculture Spokesperson Diab Sakhouri told Shafaq News that roughly 15,000 hectares of forest and farmland have been destroyed, based on initial field assessments, while "comprehensive surveys are still underway.' The wildfires, ongoing since early July, have scorched vast areas across northern and western provinces, driven by extreme heat, arid winds, and inaccessible terrain. In some regions, landmines and unexploded ordnance left from past conflicts have further impeded access. A central command center—overseen by the Emergency and Disaster Management Ministry—is directing more than 80 field teams, supported by military units, civil defense forces, and international partners. Ground teams from Iraq, Jordan, and Turkiye have joined the response, while 16 aircraft from Syria, Turkiye, Jordan, and Lebanon are conducting coordinated aerial firefighting operations. Damascus has also formally appealed to the European Union for assistance.

Iraq and Syria to reopen Al-Qaim border crossing next week
Shafaq News/ Iraq and Syria will reopen the Al-Qaim–Al-Bukamal border crossing to travelers and commercial traffic next Monday, officials from both countries confirmed on Thursday. Turki Al-Mahlawi, the district commissioner of Al-Qaim in Iraq's Al-Anbar Province, told Shafaq News that the crossing will resume normal operations at the beginning of next week following a bilateral agreement. The reopening does not pose any security threat to Al-Anbar or Iraq, noting that the border is 'well-secured and jointly managed,' he added. Additionally, Syria's General Authority for Land and Maritime Border Crossings announced that the Al-Bukamal crossing will reopen on June 14 for both travelers and freight trucks. — الهيئة العامة للمنافذ البرية والبحرية السورية (@Syrianborders) June 12, 2025 Mazen Alloush, the Authority's Director of Public Relations, told Shafaq News that the reopening 'revives the eastern economic artery of the trade route between Syria and Iraq and strengthens overland connectivity along the Damascus–Bukamal–Qaim–Baghdad corridor, reducing costs and accelerating the flow of goods.' He added that the move 'will help restore economic activity in Syria's Deir ez-Zor province and Iraq's Al-Anbar, where local populations depend heavily on the exchange of agricultural and livestock products.' According to Alloush, the crossing 'serves as a cornerstone for reconstruction programs and the systematic supply of raw materials needed for Syrian industry, while also creating opportunities for exporting national products to Iraqi markets.' Separately, Syria's Ministry of Economy and Industry said the reopening of the Al-Bukamal crossing 'is more than just the passage of trucks—it marks the beginning of a new economic vision between Syria and Iraq, one built on production and integration rather than rentier exchange and consumption.' A spokesperson from the Ministry indicated to Shafaq News that the Ministry is developing a practical investment roadmap based on real projects, noting that the crossing would serve as a vital route for the flow of raw materials and Syrian goods into Iraqi and Gulf markets. The crossing has remained closed since December 2024 due to security concerns stemming from clashes in the area and the withdrawal of Syrian government forces.
