'You can see the talent they have is second to none'

Leicester City academy graduate Kasey McAteer says he can be "really proud" after scoring his first Premier League goal against Ipswich Town and praised young academy products Jeremy Monga and Jake Evans for their contribution in the final part of this season. "I'm buzzing," McAteer told BBC Radio Leicester after scoring last weekend. "I was happy to play my part in such a special day that was all about [Jamie] Vards and helping the team get the win is the most important thing. "All that was going through my head was to shoot. I saw the far post was cut off so I thought I need to go near post and just put my foot through the ball. I'm happy that it flew in. "I think I can be really proud of myself for getting my first Premier League goal." He also praised boss Ruud van Nistelrooy for looking at the academy's youth prospects ahead of their Championship campaign next season. McAteer added: "This is what this club is all about. "We have had so many good academy products over the years, [Harvey] Barnes, [Ben] Chilwell and Kiernan [Dewsbury-Hall], so if the club can keep striving in that direction then it is good for us. "Also getting exposed to the first team, like I did myself, is great. "The young boys Jeremy [Monga] and Jake [Evans], along with all of us, can be proud to play for our first team. Normally I get referred to as the 'young boy' but I always have to think about the fact they are 15 and 16 years old. "It is crazy but when they have come in and trained with us, they have been really good. They have pushed us and we have pushed them. They are just going to keep getting better and better. You can see the talent they have is second to none." Listen to the full interview on BBC Sounds

He made his first team debut aged 15 last season - becoming the club's youngest ever player - and went on to make 16 appearances in total throughout the campaign. This season he's only missed three games in total and even made more history when he captained the side for the first time during their 3-1 defeat to Cobh Ramblers last month. He has certainly grabbed plenty of attention over in Ireland throughout the past year. Advertisement And now he's hoping to do the same in Scotland with the four-in-a-row champions. According to Donnegal Live, McAteer is on the radar of several clubs, including the Hoops. The youngster headed to England last year for a previous trial at high-flying Premier League side Nottingham Forest. McAteer, a regular in Ireland's U17 setup, will return to his club duties ahead of his side's clash with Athlone Town on Friday. Celtic running the rule over Irish teenager: 'The signs so far have been good'

Celtic are running the rule over Finn Harps teenager Gavin McAteer this week. The Ireland Under-17 international is with the Glasgow giants for four days but will return to Donegal in time for Friday's First Division clash against Athlone Town. Midfielder McAteer, 16, has already been on trial with Nottingham Forest - along with team-mate Oisin Cooney - but Celtic have ramped up their interest. Speaking to 'Donegal Live', new Harps manager and club legend Kevin McHugh said McAteer's trial was going well. McHugh told the Donegal media outlet: 'Celtic are very keen to throw their hat in the ring, The signs so far have been good. He's getting on very well.' Last season, McAteer became the youngest ever player to feature in a league game for Finn Harps when he came off the bench in a defeat away to Kerry as a 15-year-old. In February this year, McAteer then made his Ireland U17 debut as a sub in a 3-0 defeat to Finland. A month later, he was an unused sub for the Euro qualifiers against Belgium and Poland but won his second cap in the 5-0 win over Iceland, providing an assist. While Ireland missed out on qualification for the European Championships, they still secured a spot at the World Cup. And McAteer, who turns 17 in July, will be hoping to win a place in Colin O'Brien's squad for the tournament in Qatar this November. In the League of Ireland First Division, Milford teenager McAteer has made 10 first-team appearances this season. He featured in 15 senior Harps games last year. McAteer's trial at Nottingham Forest took place last October and he scored in a 6-1 win for the U21s over Hull City. 'I'd like to put Roy Keane feud to bed, but he doesn't want to'

Jason McAteer would love to end his decades long feud with Roy Keane and bury the hatchet once and for all. However, the ex-Liverpool star admits that it isn't likely to happen anytime soon. Keane and McAteer's long-running feud has stretched on for more than two decades, reaching a boiling point in 2002 when Keane was sent off for swinging an elbow at McAteer just months after the Irishman was involved in the infamous 'Saipan' saga with then Ireland manager Mick McCarthy. We all know what happened next, Keane and McCarthy fell out and Roy never played at the 2002 World Cup where Ireland crashed out on penalties at the round of 16 stage against Spain. Keane and McAteer actually played in midfield for Ireland throughout the 2002 qualifying campaign, and while the pair have their differences, McAteer still has fond memories of playing next to arguably the greatest Irish player of all time. "I was in a midfield two with Roy,' McAteer told FourFourTwo magazine, 'During that 2002 qualifying campaign, I played alongside one of the finest midfielders of his generation at the peak of his powers. To be in the same team as him was an honour, to be honest. 'As a player, Roy was absolutely sensational. As a person, he's very complex. There are two sides to him. I see the pantomime villain that he plays on television, and that suits him – people like it, there's a demand for it. 'But I've also seen the emotional side, the funny side, and I like that character. Sadly, I get to deal with the pantomime villain now. 'Regrettably, our friendship is fractured. Our relationship broke down on a football pitch – we had a clash. At the end of the day, I'm on the pitch to win – I'll do whatever I need to do to win for my team. If that upset him by getting to him personally, that's the nature of the beast. 'I had the better of him on that occasion and he knows it. We should have shaken hands afterwards, but we didn't and then people wanted to make more of it. He wanted to make more of it. 'I wanted to put it to bed. I'd still like to put it to bed, but he doesn't want to so I'm just going to have to deal with it.'
