For some, the dream does become a reality as Leicester's Kasey McAteer proved by breaking into the Foxes' first team in 2023/24 before making 17 Premier League appearances this season.

10 years ago, the 23-year-old was a ball boy up in arms on the sidelines as club legend Jamie Vardy was scythed down inside the penalty area.
Fast forward a decade and McAteer celebrated Vardy's final goal for the Foxes in front of the King Power faithful on Sunday.
To cap a memorable afternoon, McAteer struck the decisive second to lead Leicester to a 2-0 victory over Ipswich.

No let-up for Leicester boss Cheika as Premiership final exit looms
Michael Cheika said only victory in next week's English Premiership final would do after his Leicester side booked their place in the Twickenham showpiece with a hard-fought 21-16 win at home to Sale on Saturday. Radwan's two tries were the standout moments from Saturday's semi-final, the 27-year-old England wing evading several Sale defenders for his first score before he crossed Sale's line again after athletically catching an overhit chip from Springbok star Handre Pollard. Cheika, reflecting on Radwan's second try, said: "Adam grew about a foot, I reckon. A foot and a half! He's not the tallest of fellas, Adam, but he got there." He added: "You've got to be brave to go and do that stuff and if you don't try it, you never know if it'll happen or not. I'm not going to rap him (Radwan) up too much, but it was a good try. Liverpool to make offer for €60m centre-back within DAYS
Liverpool secured Virgil van Dijk to a contract renewal before the end of the season. With the Dutchman's previous terms expiring in summer 2025, sporting director Richard Hughes ensured continuity at centre-back by having Van Dijk commit until 2027. That gives the Reds a degree of security in making their defensive plans but all around Van Dijk there is uncertainty. We could see Jarell Quansah and Joe Gomez LEAVE in this transfer window, reducing the number of available centre-backs by two. But the captain turns 34 this summer and won't be around forever, while the Merseysiders have also got a problem to solve with Konate. The Frenchman, 26, is out of contract next year and if no agreement is reached over a renewal then he too could be sold. In this context it is wise for Richard Hughes and Arne Slot to be looking at the market for new defenders. Diomande back on the radar Their search has now reportedly taken them back to Portugal, where Ousmane Diomande is once again in focus. Diomande, 21, has just won the Portuguese league and cup double with his side, earning the plaudits for another solid season's work. Advertisement The Ivory Coast international is now attracting transfer attention from the Premier League - with A Bola disclosing that Crystal Palace have got the former Midtjylland stopper on their list to replace Marc Guehi. 'The Premier League club sought to find out the amount to buy the central defender from Alvalade and received the answer immediately: the Lions will only sit at the negotiating table for amounts of around €60 million,' the report reads. But intriguingly it's added that several other Premier League clubs - Liverpool included - have also taken this 'first step' towards signing Diomande. Liverpool could make Diomande offer 'Crystal Palace, by the way, were not the only ones to take this first step towards Diomande,' the report continues. Advertisement 'Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United, as well as Bayern Munich (interest dating back to January) have not lost sight of the centre-back and could make an offer in the coming days.' Liverpool employ new rule to secure RECORD transfer
Liverpool to use ESC ruling Pecsi doesn't have enough football under his belt to qualify for a work-permit with a Premier League side. The goalkeeper falls a fair way short, in fact. The only way Liverpool can make this happen, then, is by using a rule introduced in 2023 for 'Elite Significant Contribution' players. It's a rule that was brought in to help clubs secure elite talent with high potential. Advertisement Pecsi is certainly that but Liverpool must register him in some way. That could be with the senior side as a third-choice goalkeeper or with the Under 21s. But Liverpool haven't used this ruling before. It's a sign of just how highly they rate Pecsi - the Reds are willing to argue that he's got truly elite potential in order to have him qualify.
