LUBBOCK, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) – The former Midland College men's basketball coach Grant McCasland has agreed to a 6-year extension with Texas Tech. The Irving native just finished his second season with the Red Raiders, surpassing 50 wins with a record of 51-20, leading the team to back-to-back trips to the NCAA Tournament. McCasland served as the head coach at Midland College from 2004-2010, taking his teams to two NJCAA championship games and winning the coveted national title in 2007. The new contract with Tech makes McCasland one of the highest-paid college basketball coaches in the country. According to a Texas Tech spokesperson, the contract totals $31.5 million through the end of the 2030-31 season, with the head coach scheduled to make $5 million in 2025-26 and increasing by $100,000 each year. 'Coach McCasland immediately built upon our men's basketball program's established success and continues working to raise and deliver on high expectations,' Director of Athletics Kirby Hocutt said.
