Scammers targeting Georgia drivers with fake ticket text messages
The Brief Georgia officials are warning drivers to be on the lookout for a scam text message about phony traffic tickets. The texts usually come with a link to a fraudulent website that scammers can use to take your money and personal information. Officials say you should look out for references to Georgia's "State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV)," because Georgia doesn't have that agency. Scammers are targeting Georgia drivers using threatening text messages, and officials want to make sure you don't get fooled. The Georgia Department of Driver Services is sending out a warning to watch out for a new text message scam attempting to steal money and personal information. What we know The agency posted the warning on its Facebook page, saying that they've received reports of the new scam that could be popping up in your messages. The texts look like a message from the "Georgia State Department of Motor Vehicles," saying that the recipient has an outstanding traffic ticket that needs to be paid immediately. If you don't pay, the scammers allege, you could have your license suspended or be prosecuted. The texts usually come with a link to a fraudulent website that scammers can use to take your information - including driver's license details. What they're saying "DDS employees do not contact customers to ask for payment or other confidential information. Anyone who receives such communication should consider it a scam. Customers who are pending a license suspension or other changes in their license status are notified in writing by DDS," DDS Commissioner Angelique B. McClendon said in a statement. "Anyone who receives these — or similar — text messages should not open or respond to them and instead delete such messages immediately." Dig deeper Officials say a red flag to be on the lookout for is a reference to a "Department of Motor Vehicles." That agency does not exist in Georgia. Instead, the Peach State has a Department of Driver Services. What you can do If you are ever unsure if a message is real or not, you can reach out to your local law enforcement department for guidance. If you want to check possible outstanding tickets or your license status, you can go directly to the official site at The Source Information for this story came from a Facebook post by the Georgia Department of Driver Services and a report by FOX 5's Kaitlyn Pratt.

$10B data center deal comes as area emerges as tech hub
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A major data center linked to Google is said to be part of a $10 billion-dollar investment that could create hundreds of new jobs, according to West Memphis, Arkansas city officials. For almost a year, West Memphis Mayor Marco McClendon has hinted on News Channel Three at 3 that he would be unveiling the biggest investment in the history of West Memphis, Arkansas, very soon. 'We've been on a winning streak for so long, and so many great things are coming in the next couple of weeks. You're going to hear about the biggest investment in the City of West Memphis,' said Mayor McClendon. The biggest investment is believed to be a Fortune 100 company that's planning a $10 billion data center. It would be located on 920 acres of land on Bollinger Road near the Coca-Cola distribution warehouse. The data center is expected to create 300 new jobs. A city spokesperson, citing non-disclosure agreements, would only tell Your News Leader that they're working with a company called Groot LLC. Fortune 100 company working to build data center in West Memphis, city says However, the Memphis Business Journal is reporting that Groot is a local entity operating for Google, one of the world's largest companies. Last week, the West Memphis City Council voted to approve several agreements with Groot, including payment in lieu of taxes, along with an infrastructure and incentives package. But complete details haven't been released. The possible deal comes as the Memphis area emerges as a tech hub. 'What we love about that Memphis is suddenly now on that stage for technology companies, data centers that are considering major investments here,' said Ted Townsend, Greater Memphis Chamber CEO and President. The Memphis area now has 11 data centers, including the Elon Musk Xai supercomputer, and a new data center is being planned on Getwell Road, the old Fred's headquarters. 'That's exciting to us, where we adapt and reuse these facilities. And what once was an Electrolux facility is now the world's largest supercomputer, and once was Fred's headquarters is now going to be a data center,' said Townsend. Pearson calls out Health Department, Mayor Harris over xAI But as more data centers come to the Mid-South, there are public concerns about transparency and the impact on the environment as the Memphis area becomes the heartbeat of the Digital Delta. 'We have to support economic development, but we certainly can't do it at the cost of a community that has historically been mistreated and not given the whole truth,' said TN Senator Raumesh Akbari, (D) Memphis. 'So, that's what I'm looking for, what turbines are actually being used, and what is the environmental impact? What's the air quality impact? What's the water impact?' The City of West Memphis has also agreed to a 65% real and personal property tax abatement for 30 years with Groot LLC. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. 2025 UFL MVP Power Rankings: Bryce Perkins, Jordan Ta'amu remain on top
Bryce Perkins or Jordan Ta'amu? The two UFL QBs have established themselves as the clear front-runners for the league's MVP honors following six weeks of action. Perkins, the former Virginia standout who is in his second year in the UFL, has been lights out for the Michigan Panthers this season, leading the team to a 4-2 mark and tied atop of the USFL Conference standings. Ta'amu, who played his college ball at Ole Miss, is on his second stint with the DC Defenders and is putting together an impressive season himself. Ta'amu has the Defenders sitting at 4-2 overall, tied with the Battlehawks for first place in the XFL standings. Where do Perkins and Ta'amu land in my latest MVP rankings, and is there anyone else who can gain ground in the race? Here's a look at my sixth UFL MVP power rankings of the season. 5. St. Louis Battlehawks RB Jacob Saylors Week 6 stat line: 14 carries, 57 yardsWeek 6 result: 12-6 win over Arlington Saylors has cooled down a bit after his hot start to the season, but the former East Tennessee State star still remains the most prolific back in the league. He leads the UFL in rushing with 312 rushing yards and is tied for the league lead in rushing touchdowns with four. Saylors' 14-carry, 57-yard performance was his second-highest rushing yardage output this season, and he did it in a victory. The Battlehawks are tied with the Defenders atop the XFL Conference standings and will rely heavily on Saylors down the stretch. 4. Houston Roughnecks QB Jalan McClendon Week 6 stat line: 20-of-28 for 149 passing yards, 1 TDWeek 6 result: 21-20 win over Memphis McClendon continues to be a spark for the Roughnecks' offense, leading the team to another victory this past weekend. He completed 20 of 28 passes for 149 yards and a touchdown in Houston's narrow 21-20 victory over Memphis. After not playing in the first three games of the Roughnecks' season, McClendon has been a revelation for this team and has brought this offense to life. Houston is averaging 21.3 points per game since McClendon took over as the team's starting QB. 3. Arlington Renegades QB Luis Perez Week 6 stat line: 16-of-23 for 145 passing yards, 1 INTWeek 6 result: 12-6 loss to St. Louis Perez didn't have his best outing this past weekend, completing just 16 passes for 145 yards in a 12-6 loss to the Battlehawks. He failed to find the end zone, marking just the second game this season Perez hasn't thrown a touchdown pass. Through six weeks of action, Perez ranks second in the UFL in passing yards (1,145) and completion percentage (70.8), while his three passing TDs are tied for fifth in the league. 2. DC Defenders QB Jordan Ta'amu Week 6 stat line: 19-of-36 passing for 259 yards, 2 TDsWeek 6 result: 38-14 loss to Michigan Ta'amu let it fly once again in Week 6, throwing for 250-plus yards and two touchdowns. However, the Defenders' defense couldn't stop the Panthers, making it hard for Ta'amu to keep up. The former Ole Miss standout leads the league in passing with 1,472 yards and 11 touchdowns through six weeks. But if Ta'amu wants to lock up the MVP award, his Defenders team needs to win down the stretch. 1. Michigan Panthers QB Bryce Perkins Week 6 stat line: 13-of-18 for 188 passing yards, 2 TDs, 76 rushing yards, 1 TDWeek 5 result: 38-14 win over DC Perkins continues to get it done with both his arm and his legs. The Panthers' dual-threat signal-caller was dominant in Michigan's 38-14 win over the Defenders, proving to be the best QB on the field. Through six weeks of action, Perkins ranks third in the UFL in passing yards (1,111), second in passing touchdowns (eight), eighth in rushing yards (209) and is tied for first in rushing touchdowns (four).
