Police are seeking sightings of a red BMW Z3 similar to this one. Photo: NZ Police A red BMW convertible was seen speeding from an isolated Southland town at the time of a suspected arson which destroyed a property. Police today released an image of a similar BMW Z3 after earlier this week saying they were "making progress to an arrest". The fire gutted an Elswick St house and destroyed two vehicles on the property, about 50km north of Gore, in February 2024. Detective Sergeant Brian McKinney, of Gore, said police wanted information on the vehicle "which was seen leaving the Waikaia township at speed around the time of the fire". The fire gutted a Waikaia property. Photo: NZ Police "On that same night, the vehicle was also observed travelling towards the Riversdale area, again at speed," he said in a statement. Police wanted to speak to anyone who has information about the vehicle, or one matching the description. Det Sgt McKinney said police were determined to hold the person responsible accountable, "and while an offender has not been located at this stage, we're making progress to an arrest". "There are positive leads in our investigation that we are looking into. However we continue to appeal to the public for any information they have on this incident." Anyone with information that could assist, was asked to contact Police via 105 either over the phone or online, using the reference file number 240222/8704. - APL

A third measles case has been reported in Collin County, health officials announced on Tuesday. The person who tested positive spent time around McKinney from May 19-22, officials said. Collin County Health Care Services didn't say how old the patient is or where they live. Possible measles exposure locations and dates: 24 Hour Fitness, 1601 North Hardin Blvd., McKinney, Texas on May 19 between 4:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. and on May 21 between 3:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Moviehouse & Eatery, 8450 SH 121, McKinney, Texas on May 19 between 6:30 p.m. and 11 p.m. Cubana Grille, 4051 South Custer Rd., Suite 1160, McKinney, Texas on May 20 between 3:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Market Street, 6100 Eldorado Pkwy., McKinney, Texas on May 22 between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. CCHCS said if anyone was at the locations on the specified times and dates, they should monitor themselves for measles symptoms through June 12 and talk to their healthcare provider. As of May 27, 729 measles cases have been confirmed in Texas since the outbreak was first reported in January, according to Texas Health and Human Services. Of those patients, 94 have been hospitalized over the course of the outbreak. The first reported measles case in Collin County was in April. Symptoms of measles While most people's symptoms improve, about 1 in 5 unvaccinated people who get measles will be hospitalized. About 1 out of every 1,000 children with measles will develop brain swelling that can lead to brain damage, and up to 3 of every 1,000 children who become infected will die, the CDC says. Federal lawsuit could delay McKinney airport expansion indefinitely

A federal lawsuit has been filed to stop the expansion of the McKinney National Airport over environmental concerns. The North Texas Conservation Association is challenging the environmental study conducted by the City of McKinney related to the airport expansion, which promises to attract commercial passenger service. "We believe the environmental assessment done on the McKinney airport expansion is seriously flawed," NTCA's President, Dr. Paul Chabot, said. "It fails to fully and adequately consider environmental impacts in the vicinity of the airport ... The people of North Texas deserve better." The lawsuit claims that the city and its leaders failed to meet federal environmental policies and the impact on the area surrounding the airport, including the Heard Museum and residential neighborhoods in McKinney and Fairview. "The McKinney City Council seems to have been more interested in meeting the timeline set by some unnamed commercial airlines than listening to voters," said NTCA's General Counsel, Steven E. Ross. McKinney city leaders approved the airport expansion in 2024 The McKinney City Council in December paved the way for the expansion of terminals and infrastructure needed to support airlines to compete with Love Field and DFW Airport. "It is a huge thing," McKinney Mayor George Fuller said previously. "Our airport has been a tremendously successful asset, not just for this community, but for the region. And we are, in essence, completely built out on the west side of the airport. So the only way to continue taking advantage of the asset that we have is to develop the east side." The zoning changes would allow the construction of an approximate 30,000-square-foot passenger terminal as well as a 1,500-space parking garage and room for large jet fuel tanks. The changes would also allow for a water and sewage system on the east side of the airport, which is undeveloped. This expansion plan would give the city of McKinney a huge regional boost and runway expansion work is already underway. The lawsuit could delay the launch of passenger service indefinitely. The North Texas Conservation Association has scheduled town hall meetings in Fairview on June 11 and in McKinney on June 19. CBS News Texas has reached out to the City of McKinney for comment and is waiting to hear back.
