Cork PJHC: O'Connor sparks Barrs revival against The Glen as Kilbrittain pip Cloughduv
St Finbarr's and Glen Rovers took control of Group 1 in the Co-op Superstores Cork PJHC when they played out a thrilling 1-18 to 2-15 draw in Páirc Uí Chonaire on Saturday. The Glen got off to the perfect start in this game as an early 2-2 from Shane Busteed put them in control. With Evan Murphy hitting 0-6 and Mark Dooley clipping 0-4, they forced their way into a 2-10 to 0-3 lead. Credit to the Barrs though, as they slowly reeled in their city rivals. Caolán O'Connor hit 1-7 in their revival, Conor McCarthy scored 0-3 while Kevin O'Flynn and Colm Keane also split the posts. That leaves the city sides locked on three points, one clear of St Catherine's after they beat Meelin by 0-23 to 1-8 in Buttevant. Kevin Barry was Catherine's top scorer with 0-9, Oisín Fitzgerald hit 0-5 from centre back while Gearóid O'Brien, Eoin Condon and Shane Cotter all clipped 0-2. Jack Curtin had 1-2 for Meelin, who only trailed by three at the break, while Nicholas Linehan scored 0-3. Meelin will play the Glen in Round 3 while the Barrs will play Catherine's. Kilbrittain took control of Group 2 with an impressive 2-17 to 1-17 win over Cloughduv in Newcestown on Sunday. Mark Hickey was the West Cork men's top scorer with 0-6, Bertie Butler and Luke Griffin both struck for 1-2 and Josh O'Donovan clipped 0-4. Mark Verling led the way for Cloughduv with 0-4, Aodh Twomey struck for 1-2 and Mark Walsh had a brace of points. Nemo Rangers joined Cloughduv on two points, two behind Kilbrittain, as a result of their 0-18 to 0-14 win over Barryroe in Ballygarvan on Saturday. Shane Horgan continued his fine form for Nemo by hitting 0-8 as they overturned a three-point half time deficit to take the spoils. Artjsom Petrov scored 0-2 for the city side while Barry Cripps and Ronan Dalton were also amongst the scorers. Olan O'Donovan shot 0-5 for Barryroe and Ryan O'Donovan clipped 0-4. They will need to beat Cloughduv on the final day to have any chance of qualifying. Nemo will take on Kilbrittain. Argideen Rangers made it two wins from two in Group 3 by beating Milford by 1-23 to 2-15 in Ovens on Saturday. Paudie Butler hit 1-1 off the bench for Argideen, Charlie Twomey shot 0-7 and John Michael O'Callaghan scored 0-5. In a fine team display, Cathal O'Donovan, Finbarr Butler, Fergal Walsh and James Crowley all contributed 0-2. Tracton joined Ballygarvan on two points by beating their South East neighbours by 1-18 to 1-14 in Riverstick on Sunday. Ronan Walsh was unerring from placed balls for Tracton, as always, while Cian Quinn struck for their all-important goal. Daniel Mackey shot 1-1 for Ballygarvan, Dylan O'Connor clipped 0-4 while Michael Cussen and Kevin Lyons both scored 0-2. In Round 3, Tracton will play Milford while Ballygarvan will take on Argideen Rangers.

Kerry Rose backed to do a famous double for the Kingdom
Kerry Rose Laura Daly is being backed at the bookies to complete a famous double for the Kingdom when the Rose of Tralee festivities kick off this weekend. With Sam Maguire silverware already in the trophy cabinet after the county's footballers triumphed over Donegal in the All-Ireland Final, there could be plenty more to celebrate when this year's winner dons the famous sash next Tuesday. Laura has been clipped into 5/1 from 7/1 by BOYLE Sports just days before the annual festival takes centre stage, as the 23 year-old dancer bids to become the first Kerry native to secure a local victory in the competition since Margaret O'Keeffe in 1964. Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BOYLE Sports, said: 'Kerry is already basking in the glow of Sam Maguire's return and now all eyes are on the Kerry Rose to see if she can complete a famous double. A Rose of Tralee crown on top of an All-Ireland title would be the stuff of county folklore and punters clearly fancy the fairytale to come true.' The latest betting means she is now second favourite, but the odds suggest some hot competition from a neighbouring county, as Cork's Nancy Lehane has been singled out as the bookies' frontrunner. The Meelin girl has a passion for singing and also adds the piano, guitar, concertina and tin whistle to an impressive array of musical talents. With winners representing New York and New Zealand over the past two years, another international victor could also be on the cards with UAE Rose Ceiline O'Meara (5/1) also well fancied. Ceiline, who packed her beloved harp when she moved to the Middle East from her native county of Limerick, is a former All-Ireland Fleadh Champion who has performed to Emirati royalty at the Dubai World Cup. Tyrone Rose Clóideach Donagh, Boston and New England Rose Maeve Kelly, Kerry Rose Laura Daly, Texas Rose Sara Costa, Carlow Rose Katie Ryan, Down Rose Anna Mulholland, Laois Rose Katelyn Cummins and Meath Rose Ella Bannon. 1 of 8 Carlow Rose Katie Ryan, Down Rose Anna Mulholland, Laois Rose Katelyn Cummins and Cork Rose Nancy Lehane. 2 of 8 London Rose Shauna Sammon, Boston and New England Rose Maeve Kelly and Texas Rose Sara Costa. 3 of 8 London Rose Shauna Sammon, Boston and New England Rose Maeve Kelly and Texas Rose Sara Costa. 4 of 8

Duhallow GAA: Meelin and Newmarket renew rivalry in Singleton Cup Final
Meelin and Newmarket clash in the Duhallow Junior B Hurling League Final at Tullylease this Friday Meelin and Newmarket clash in the Duhallow Junior B Hurling League Final at Tullylease this Friday evening with the Singleton Cup as a prize. When the sides met in the decider last season, a clinical attacking display allowed Meelin overcome the holders Newmarket. Looking that bit sharper, a driven Meelin performance was in sharp contrast to a more laboured Newmarket showing to regain the trophy for the first time since 2011.

ROCKCHAPEL Unforgettable celebration of music, community and culture The hills of Rockchapel were alive with the sound of music, laughter, and local pride last weekend as the much-anticipated Rockchapel Gathering Weekend lived up to every expectation — and then some. From start to finish, the village was transformed into a vibrant stage for tradition, talent, and togetherness. Opened in style on Friday evening at Bruach na Carraige, where the acclaimed Fermanagh band, Tully, wowed the crowd with their rousing performance. Local favourites The McAuliffe Family added a special Rockchapel touch, ensuring the weekend began on a high note. Saturday morning's 'Community Cuppa' coffee morning proved as heartwarming as it was entertaining, with music from John McAuliffe & Friends and a magician delighting the younger crowd. That afternoon, Murphy's Bar hosted a lively Kids Music Session, while singers filled Paddy Molly's Bar with harmonies under the guidance of Eibhlín and Liam Broderick. The standout event of the weekend was undoubtedly Saturday night's 'Three Counties Challenge' — a variety show extravaganza where Cork, Kerry, and Limerick went head-to-head in a spectacular showcase of music, drama, and comedy. The packed crowd at Rockchapel Community Centre roared with applause, and the buzz around the event will surely echo for weeks to come. Congratulations to the victorious Cork team and their captain Eily Mai Hickey. Sunday morning brought a moment of reflection with a soulful Trad Mass, followed by a family-friendly Craft Fair that turned the church grounds into a festival playground. From the Animal Roadshow to the kids' tractor run, face painting, and art corner, there was no shortage of smiles plus the Slow Bike Race for the adults! The addition of food, coffee, and ice cream trucks ensured bellies were as full as hearts. The weekend's grand finale, a free outdoor concert, drew a massive crowd as Up in Smoke and The Rising delivered high-energy performances that had the entire village dancing. And just when it seemed the night might wind down, DJ Donal took over, spinning tunes late into the evening and bringing the curtain down on a truly remarkable weekend. Nightly music sessions in both Murphy's and Paddy Molly's Bars kept the tunes rolling throughout the weekend, with musicians from near and far joining in the spontaneous celebrations. The Rockchapel Gathering Weekend 2025 will be remembered as a joyful celebration of culture, community, and connection — and already, the village is buzzing with ideas for next year. The committee would like to give a special word of thanks to main sponsors Paddy Molly's and Murphy's Bar, and also a big thank you to IRD Duhallow and Cork Council for their support.

Cork Rose contestant with spina bifida says selection night experience ‘built-up my confidence'
But it's back to work already, and Sarah's hard at it in her salon at the Crann Centre, which opened its doors in 2018 and has been a key charity for people with neuro-physical disabilities and their families. The facility is flat and wheelchair accessible and Ms Dullea said finding wheelchair accessible accommodation is 'really hard.' 'I opened the salon in November 2019 in the Crann Centre and I've been a beautician for 11 years. 'I knew of the centre since it opened, so I approached them and asked if I could use a space for one day per week and they said 'absolutely, no problem,' and now I'm there every Thursday and Friday,' she said. Sarah's Art and Beauty offers a range of services including nails, spray tanning and waxing, and Ms Dullea said she loves her job. 'I love my job, and it still feels like a hobby. 'I always say to people that when you wake up in the morning, you should feel excited to go to your job and feel like you're doing a nice thing,' she said. Her love for beauty started when she accompanied her mother to birthday parties as a pre-teen, as her mother offered a face painting service. Sarah would paint children's nails as part of the package. 'When I was younger, maybe 11 or 12 years old, myself and my mum would do these birthday parties for girls and I always have been interested in nail polish, so I would paint their nails and put stickers on them. 'All I ever wanted to do is beauty,' she added. ADVERTISEMENT The Dunmanway woman loves chatting with new and regular customers at the Crann Centre, and many of her customers would be wheelchair users who frequent the facility. 'I get to meet so many new clients and see my regulars, and there's always a new story every week and it's lovely to hear. The beautician is also a volunteer at the Crann Centre, where she chaperones fun evenings, kids' clubs and other events. Ms Dullea put herself forward for the Cork Rose selection in 2024 and 2025, and made 'fantastic friends' along the way. 'I had such a fantastic time and made such fantastic friends, and it really built up my confidence because I would struggle with making friends. 'With me being disabled, my friends were going off and living their lives and I might be a bit slower so I would struggle to hang on to them. 'I went for (Cork Rose) selection last year to build up my friendship group and some of my friends from last year came to support me on Sunday night (for the 2025 Cork Rose selection), which was fantastic,' she added. Sunday's Cork Rose selection saw Nancy Lehane earn the sash to represent the Rebels at the Rose of Tralee International Festival in August, and Sarah said she 'can't wait' to show her support for the Meelin woman. 'Nancy is such a sweetheart, and we were thrilled for her. 'She is the most genuine and down-to-earth person I've ever met. 'She is a darling and I can't wait to go to Tralee and support her,' she concluded.
