Rajasthan govt aims to become a concert tourism hub, attract MICE
Rajasthan, known not only for its grand forts and palaces but also for its centuries-old craftsmanship, soulful folk music, timeless architecture, and vibrant cultural traditions, now wants to become a concert tourism hub. The state government plans to set up concert tourism facilities in various cities soon, Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari said on Sunday. Speaking at the 'Meet in India' Conclave during the 14th Great Indian Travel Bazaar (GITB) in Jaipur, Kumari said that the state will focus on building better infrastructure to support this emerging sector. 'This sector is growing, and we plan to create concert tourism facilities in various cities in the state soon,' she said. 'For this, better infrastructure will be built in Rajasthan.' Jaipur, also known as the Pink City, recently hosted a series of high-profile events, including concerts by Yo Yo Honey Singh, singer Diljit Dosanjh, Papon, and Sunidhi Chauhan, along with several stand-up comedy shows. 'Rajasthan holds a special place on the global map,' Kumari said. 'The state is now rapidly emerging in the field of concert tourism, opening new avenues for investment and partnerships. On one hand, we are preserving our traditions, and on the other, we are moving towards becoming a global tourism hub through modern infrastructure and tourism-friendly policies.' GITB is organised by the Union Ministry of Tourism in collaboration with the department of tourism of the Rajasthan government and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Ficci). The three-day event began on May 4 and will conclude on May 6. Kumari said that Rajasthan is positioning itself not only as a leisure destination but also as a venue for international conferences, business meetings, cultural fairs, and events. 'The state is set to become a leading destination for conferences and events,' she said. 'To boost the MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions) industry, we will soon launch the Rajasthan Mandapam.' Planned in Jaipur, the Rajasthan Mandapam will be a convention and exhibition centre with state-of-the-art facilities. 'From cultural richness to rural tourism circuits and new destination development, every part of Rajasthan is being prepared to host high-impact events,' Kumari added. 'We believe in strong public-private partnerships — from local artisans to luxury hoteliers, grassroots logistics teams.'

India to be among top 10 global tourism markets, says Shekhawat
1 2 Jaipur: Union tourism minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat Sunday said that the govt is targeting to make the country one of the top 10 destinations in the world. It ranked 39th in the World Economic Forum 's Travel & Tourism Development Index 2024 globally and 54th 2022. He mentioned that meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) would be one of the key strategies of the ministry in expanding the sector, which draws heavily on the cultural riches of the country. Speaking at the ministry's 'Meet in India', organised by FICCI for promoting the events industry, Shekhawat said states across the country are unlocking tourism opportunities in their own unique ways and stressed, "Now, it's time for India to position itself firmly on the global MICE map." "With iconic venues like Bharat Mandapam, Yashobhoomi, and Jio World Centre, and with MICE prioritised under the Incredible India campaign , we aim to elevate at least 10 Indian cities into the world's top MICE destinations," said the minister in the presence of over 300 delegates and participants representing the MICE and tourism industry. In fact, the state tourism minister Diya Kumari also highlighted Rajasthan Mandapam, currently under development, and the existing infrastructure and resources required to expand the MICE segment in the state. Citing examples, she mentioned Jaipur hosting the silver jubilee celebration of the International Indian Film Academy awards in March this year. Recognising the impact of MICE on the economy, during India's G20 presidency, meetings attended global leaders were held in many states to provide them exposure in hosting events and building their capabilities. Suman Bery, vice-chairperson, NITI Aayog, said, "We view MICE tourism not only as a promotional opportunity but as a development imperative," urging for more than just infrastructure development. While stressing the need to move towards a comprehensive tourism experience that integrates events, cultural infrastructure, and global best practices to fully unlock its potential, Bery said that centre-state coordination, deregulation, and the breaking down of silos across ministries are key to achieving this vision. 'Pahalgam attack a slight setback for tourism in valley' Jaipur: The Pahalgam terror attack that targeted tourists, killing 26 and injuring scores will have a temporary impact on the work the govt has been doing there, said Gajendra Singh Shekhawat. He said the govt was building six new tourist destinations and those projects will be impacted in the short-term. Calling the incident very unfortunate, he said tourism in the valley has been slightly hit but people have started visiting the also lauded the spirit of the tourists who did not cancel the trips after the attack and went to visit the places in the state.

‘Meet in India': Centre to promote Raj events industry
Jaipur: Like the 'Wed in India' push last year, Union tourism ministry will kick off the three-day ' Great Indian Travel Bazaar ' (GITB) with a " Meet in India " prelude to promote the events industry. GITB is jointly organised by the state and the Union govt to attract foreign tourists. In the 14th year of the event, 280 international tour operators from 55 countries, 25 foreign MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions) operators, and 50 domestic players confirmed participation, as per a release by the state tourism department. Surendra Singh Shahpura, vice-chairman of event organiser FICCI Rajasthan, said, "Over 11,000 structured business-to-business meetings are scheduled during the two days of the exhibition. The focus will be on both weddings and MICE, as the govt of India is very aggressive in promoting these segments in the country." Shahpura said the presence of a large number of hotels with infrastructure meeting the full range of event requirements and rates suiting all pockets has given Jaipur a vantage point to lead both segments. GITB will be held from May 4 to 6 at JECC, Sitapura.
