This area, located approximately 140km from Pune, experienced severe waterlogging due to incessant and heavy rain, resulting in waist-deep water that marooned the residents. The village is about 20km from the Army's Armoured Corps Centre and School and the situation grew critical when the water level continued to rise. "Our teams carried out a rescue operation for several hours during the night to evacuate the villagers. As of Wednesday morning, the water had receded,"a senior Army officer told TOI. The Command's disaster relief teams are on alert in their area of responsibility in the southern sector. "Our teams are equipped with boats to conduct any disaster relief operations. Detachments from medical, corps of signals, and engineers' taskforce are on standby to assist the main rescue personnel operating in flood-affected regions," the officer added. The Southern Command rescued thousands of citizens from flood-affected areas in in Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Kerala last year. "In Pune's Ektanagar, for instance, our team rescued hundreds of citizens trapped by the flood," the officials stated. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo In the last week, troops from Aundh military station conducted a two-day joint exercise called 'Megh Rahat' with several agencies to respond to flood relief operations during the monsoon in the city. Army conducts joint flood relief exercise in Pune ahead of monsoon
Pune: Indian Army troops conducted a two-day joint exercise with multiple agencies to respond to flood relief operations during the forthcoming monsoon season in the city. The exercise, 'Megh Rahat', was conducted at the Aundh military station to forge strategy and enhance coordination among various agencies, including district administration, to operate effectively and quickly in times of need. Last year, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) called army teams to rescue flood-affected citizens in the Anandnagar areas after river water entered housing societies. Over 100 citizens were rescued by the army troops in the locality. "Through this joint training, the stakeholders were able to share their expertise, enhance their response capabilities, and develop a unified approach to disaster management," said the officials. "Having a collective strategy and understanding the strength of each agency is crucial when it comes to disaster relief operations. A little confusion can affect the overall outcome of these operations. Therefore, joint work is necessary for the smooth execution of relief operations," added another official.
