Bangladesh batter Soumya Sarkar ruled out from T20 against Pakistan, Mehidy Hasan becomes replacement
New Delhi [India] May 22 (ANI): Bangladesh batter Soumya Sarkar has been ruled out of the June T20 series against Pakistan due to a back injury. Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who is playing for Lahore Qalandars in the PSL 2025 playoffs, has been as been named as his replacement, according to ESPNcricinfo on Thursday. Pakistan will host Bangladesh for a three-match T20 series starting from May 28, the Bangladesh team is scheduled to arrive in Lahore on May 25, three days before the opener. The tourists' training sessions are planned for May 26 and 27 to ensure optimal preparation for the series. Soumya missed the three T20Is against UAE in Sharjah, a series Bangladesh lost 2-1, and the team physio, Bayjedul Islam Khan said he would need a couple of weeks to recover. 'Following medical evaluation, it has been determined that the injury requires an extended rehabilitation period of approximately 10 to 12 days,' Bayjedul said. 'This effectively means that he will not be available for next week's three-match series in Pakistan,' Bayjedul Islam Khan said. Mehidy was left out of the T20I team that Bangladesh's selectors had chosen for the UAE and Pakistan tour. However, Mehidy has had a successful 2024-25 campaign. In addition to taking three five-wicket hauls and scoring a century in the Test Series against Zimbabwe, he was also named the Player of the Tournament in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2025 for his 355 runs and 13 wickets. Mehidy is with his countrymen Shakib Al Hasan and Rishad Hossain in the Qalandars squad, and he will join the Bangladesh team in Lahore after his PSL commitments. Lahore confirm Sikandar Raza replacement
Sikandar Raza has been instrumental for Lahore Qalandars in the ongoing HBL PSL10. Photo: PCB Lahore Qalandars have roped in Bangladesh all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz as a replacement for Sikandar Raza for the playoff stage of the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has granted Mehidy a No Objection Certificate (NOC), and he is expected to arrive in Lahore by Tuesday. The PSL playoffs begin on Wednesday, with Qalandars scheduled to play the Eliminator on Thursday. Their opponent is yet to be confirmed. During a recent interview, Mehidy expressed his enthusiasm for the opportunity, despite the possibility of featuring in just one game. "Of course it is exciting for me to join Lahore Qalandars," Mehidy said. "It is technically the second time I have got a call-up to a franchise league. Nonetheless, it is a good opportunity for me to compete at a very high level. PSL is one of the top tournaments going around. I have done well in the past in the BPL, so I am confident that I can give my best," he added. The all-rounder also revealed his desire to use this stint to make a case for his return to Bangladesh's T20I squad. He is not part of the squad currently playing a T20I series against the UAE in Sharjah or the upcoming five-match T20I series in Pakistan. "I can get myself up to the mark in T20s, so that I am prepared for the selection opportunities ahead," he said. "Definitely I want to get back into the Bangladesh [T20I] team, and this is one of the ways I can improve myself in the format." At Qalandars, Mehidy will reunite with long-time national teammate Shakib Al Hasan. The Qalandars had briefly brought Sikandar Raza back after the PSL resumed following a pause due to border tensions between Pakistan and India, but he was only available for one match before joining the Zimbabwe squad for a one-off four-day Test against England at Trent Bridge. With David Wiese and Sam Billings not returning for the remainder of the tournament, the Qalandars called up former Bangladesh captain Shakib al Hasan and Sri Lanka's Bhanuka Rajapaksa. Shakib Al Hasan made his PSL 10 debut for Lahore Qalandars on Sunday but endured a tough outing, falling for a golden duck and conceding 18 runs in two wicketless overs against Peshawar Zalmi. Before his arrival, fellow Bangladesh players Rishad Hossain (Qalandars), Nahid Rana, and Litton Das (Karachi Kings) had already featured in the tournament, though Litton withdrew due to an injury. Despite Shakib's struggles, Qalandars kept their playoff hopes alive with a 26-run win in a rain-shortened 13-over match at Rawalpindi. Fakhar Zaman starred with 60 off 36 balls, powering Qalandars to 149/8.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz Wins ICC Men's Player Of The Month Award For April 2025
Bangladesh all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz has won the ICC Men's Player of the Month award for April 2025 after putting in solid all-round performances in the home Test series against Zimbabwe. He beat Zimbabwe's Blessing Muzarabani and New Zealand's Ben Sears to clinch the monthly award. Mehidy also becomes only the third player from Bangladesh to win the award and the first one to do it in over two years - Shakib Al Hasan was the last Bangladesh player to win the award in March 2023, while Mushfiqur Rahim is the other one to have been adjudged winner of the honour. "It's an incredible honor to win the ICC Men's Player of the Month award. The ICC Awards are the ultimate recognition for any cricketer, and to receive this from a global vote means a lot to me.' 'Moments like these remind me of my journey — being named Player of the Tournament in the 2016 ICC Under 19 World Cup was a massive encouragement early in my career, and this award feels just as special,' said Mehidy in a statement by the ICC on Wednesday. Mehidy enjoyed a prolific April 2025 with bat and ball, ending the two-match Test series against Zimbabwe as the Player of the Series. After picking ten wickets in the opening Test match defeat in Sylhet (5-52 and 5-50), Mehidy then hit 104 in the second game at Chattogram - his second Test century - before clinching another five wicket-haul to ensure the honours were shared. He also became the Player of the Match in Bangladesh winning the Chattogram Test. "I am truly delighted. This award will be a big source of inspiration for me to keep giving my best and contributing to Bangladesh's success on the world stage. As cricketers, we dream of making an impact and bringing joy to our fans.' 'Recognition like this from the ICC motivates me to keep pushing harder and performing consistently for my country. I want to thank my teammates, coaches, and the fans — this award belongs to all of them too," concluded Mehidy.
