Loaned strikers likely to leave Dortmund permanently this summer

When Borussia Dortmund missed out on the Meisterschale by goal difference in the 2022/23 season, Sebastian Haller and Youssoufa Moukoko were the team's top strikers. After an underwhelming spell last term, both players left Signal Iduna Park on loan deals. Haller first went to Leganes, who eventually got relegated this past weekend, but his spell was a short-lived one. After a scoreless first half of the season, Haller returned to Eredivisie to help FC Utrecht qualify for the preliminary rounds of the Europa League. Advertisement Meanwhile, Moukoko spent the season with OGC Nice, who qualified for the playoff round of the Champions League qualification. However, he only had a small part to play as he only saw action for 200 league minutes. Kicker's Patrick Kleinmann looked back at their prospects in continuing with Dortmund next season, and the results are similar. Dortmund will probably need reinforcement for the upcoming Club World Cup, but both strikers aren't expected to join the club for the tournament in the USA. In Haller's case, Utrecht are working on signing the player permanently, but the Ivorian international should reduce his wage significantly. As for Moukoko, who missed out on Germany's squad for the U21 Euros, Nice will not exercise their option to sign him permanently. Since both players will be in their last year of their current Dortmund contracts, the club will be desperate to work on permanent departures this summer.

Champions-like! Kompany's Bayern head into their final home game with record-breaking stats

There was a momentary hush in the away block in the Leipzig Arena. When Yussuf Poulsen equalised for Leipzig in stoppage time to draw the game at 3-3, it temporarily silenced the Bayern fans. The Munich side had already put themselves in the mood to celebrate the title with a spirited comeback - from 2-0 down at the break to leading 3-2. However, what initially seemed like a bit of a damper ultimately turned out to be a mere cosmetic result: Leverkusen were held to a 2-2 draw at Freiburg the following day, which meant FC Bayern could no longer mathematically be caught and the 34th league title was theirs! For the fourth time after 1989, 2015 and 2021, the men from Munich celebrated it as the so-called "couch champions". Following Saturday's Bundesliga home game against Borussia Mönchengladbach (18:30 CEST), FC Bayern will now be presented with the Meisterschale on their home turf. has put together some exciting facts for you ahead of the home finale. Championship-winning coach Kompany Dieser Inhalt kann hier leider nicht dargestellt werden. Zum Anschauen kannst du die Website des FC Bayern München besuchen: Artikel auf Advertisement At the age of 39, Vincent Kompany will go down in history as the club's third-youngest championship-winning coach - only Julian Nagelsmann (34) and Udo Lattek (37) were younger when they managed it. The Belgian is also the fifth coach in the new millennium to lead FCB to the title in his first Bundesliga season - after Louis van Gaal, Pep Guardiola, Carlo Ancelotti and Hansi Flick. Historic run against the Foals FC Bayern recently won three Bundesliga games in a row against Borussia Mönchengladbach for the first time in over ten years - the last time this happened was in 2014. Bayern's only longer winning streak against the Foals came in the early days of the Bundesliga: five consecutive victories between 1965 and 1967. But watch out: No other club has beaten FCB in the Bundesliga as often as the Borussians - a whopping 28 times. So this is a real historic fixture in which neither side gives any quarter. Dominant from start to finish With their 34th league title, FCB are once again the benchmark. This season, the men from Munich have ended 32 out of 34 matchdays at the top of the table - the last time they achieved this was in the 2012/13 treble-winning season under Jupp Heynckes. Rather fittingly, the iconic coach celebrates his 80th birthday on 9 May (click here for our series). Advertisement The consistency is also remarkable: just two defeats in the first 32 Bundesliga games (23 wins, seven draws) - the last time that happened was in 2016/17 under Carlo Ancelotti. Olise makes a historic start Olise scored his 13th Bundesliga goal of the season in the 3-3 draw at Leipzig. Michael Olise is in superb form - and well on the way to making a name for himself in the Bundesliga. With 13 assists, the French winger has been the best provider this season so far. He's also scored ten goals - making him the first player since detailed data recording began (2004/05) to reach double figures for both goals and assists in his maiden season at FC Bayern. Just like Gladbach striker Tim Kleindienst (16 goals, seven assists), Olise has 23 direct goal contributions to his name - only Harry Kane (31) has surpassed him in the league. Set piece champions With 22 goals from dead-ball situations, FC Bayern also lead the way in the league concerning set pieces, whereby the focus is particularly on headers. Both the record champions and Borussia Mönchengladbach have each scored 13 goals with the head - more than any other Bundesliga team. Both are also out in front in terms of headers on target: Bayern with 41, Gladbach with 36. Advertisement Fun fact: While FCB excel in attack, Gladbach have defensive problems at set pieces - most recently, in the 4-4 draw against Hoffenheim, all four goals came from dead-ball situations. The Foals have conceded a total of 20 goals from corners, throw-ins and free-kicks - only Kiel and Bochum (21 each) have a worse record. Gladbach in crisis Borussia Mönchengladbach, meanwhile, travel to the Arena in Fröttmaning with some issues. For the first time in this Bundesliga season, the team has gone five consecutive games without a win (two draws, three defeats). Only VfL Wolfsburg picked up fewer points in the same period. What's particularly alarming is that no other team has conceded as many goals in the last five games as the side from the Rhine valley (14). So the situation is quite clear: FC Bayern will welcome the Foals as the newly-crowned champions and favourites - but with maximum motivation to make the home finale a success. Everyone involved will also do their best to give club legend Thomas Müller - who could make his 750th competitive appearance for FC Bayern against Gladbach - a fitting farewell from the Allianz Arena. Harry Kane wins first trophy of career as Bayern Munich reclaim Bundesliga title

England captain Harry Kane has won the first trophy of his professional career at the age of 31 as Bayern Munich reclaimed the Bundesliga title after Bayer Leverkusen failed to beat Freiburg. Bayern were forced to put the champagne on ice after Saturday's trip to Leipzig, which saw Yussuf Poulsen's 94th-minute equaliser deny the Bavarians a title party. Advertisement However, they only had to wait one more day to take back the Meisterschale, with reigning champions Leverkusen being held to a 2-2 draw at the Europa-Park Stadium. Kane posted a video on social media soon after the final whistle in Freiburg, alongside the words "We are the Champions" on X and "What a feeling" on Instagram, showing him and his team-mates singing the Queen song during celebrations in a bar. Kane had suffered a series of heartbreaking near-misses in his career, including back-to-back defeats in European Championship finals with England in 2021 and 2024 and in the 2019 Champions League final with his former club Tottenham Hotspur. He moved to German giants Bayern in the summer of 2023, only for Bayer Leverkusen to end their streak of 11 Bundesliga titles in a row last season, in what was Bayern's first trophyless season in 11 years. Advertisement There was more disappointment for Kane and Bayern this campaign – with defeat to Inter Milan ending their hopes of winning the Champions League at their home ground in Munich – but they reclaimed the title from Leverkusen. Kane's record in Bayern's triumph has been remarkable, scoring 24 goals in 29 games. He is set to win the Golden Boot for a second consecutive season, after scoring 36 last campaign, and in November he broke the record for the fastest player to reach 50 Bundesliga goals, requiring just 43 games to reach the half-century. Harry Kane has finally secured his first piece of silverware at the age of 31 (Getty Images) But while Kane's goalscoring prowess has never been in doubt, the striker has finally ticked off the box that has followed him during his career and won a major trophy. With both England and Tottenham, Kane has appeared in five major finals without lifting silverware, with Spurs also finishing runners-up in the Carabao Cup in 2015 and 2021 to add to defeats in the Champions League final and both Euros finals. Tottenham were briefly title contenders during Kane's time in the Premier League but Mauricio Pochettino's team finished behind Leicester and Arsenal in 2016 and runners-up to Chelsea in 2017, before they lost 2-0 to Liverpool in the 2019 Champions League final in Madrid. Kane become Tottenham's all-time leading goal-scorer before Bayern made him their record signing in 2023 for an initial fee of €100m.

Soccer-Bayern's Kompany wants focus on Hoffenheim before Sunday's title party

FILE PHOTO: Soccer Football - Bundesliga - Bayern Munich v Borussia Moenchengladbach - Allianz Arena, Munich, Germany - May 10, 2025 Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany poses with the Meisterschale trophy to celebrate winning the Bundesliga REUTERS/Kai Pfaffenbach/File Photo MUNICH, Germany (Reuters) - Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany's focus is firmly on the last Bundesliga game of the season at Hoffenheim on Saturday and not the following day's title party in the Bavarian capital, he said on Friday. Bayern secured the Bundesliga title almost two weeks ago in Kompany's first season in charge, but Saturday's match could see the Bavarians go for the 100-goal mark this season. They have currently scored 95 league goals this term. It will also likely mark the second straight top Bundesliga scorer title for Bayern striker Harry Kane in his first two seasons in Germany, with no Bundesliga player ever having managed that feat in their first two seasons. Kane has netted 25 Bundesliga goals so far this season ahead of Borussia Dortmund's Serhou Guirassy with 20. It is, however, a far more important game for the struggling hosts Hoffenheim, who are three points above the relegation playoff spot currently occupied by Heidenheim. "For me the anticipation (for the title party in central Munich) is great because that was the goal; to bring the league trophy back to Munich," Kompany told a press conference. "But now I am only focused on the Hoffenheim game. That is the absolute priority and the preparation we are doing. We will enjoy what happens after that because we earned it." Last season Bayer Leverkusen won a domestic league and Cup double without defeat, snapping the Bavarians' 11-year title run. Bayern traditionally present the trophy from the balcony of Munich's city Hall to thousands of cheering fans. "I see every title as the first so that's why I'm looking forward to it," Belgian Kompany said. The Bavarians will then go into a two-week break before the squad comes together in early June for the Club World Cup in the United States starting later that month.
